- NEW Website Launch! It is with great pleasure that I warmly welcome you to visit my brand new revamped website maximvengerov.com.
Released as part of the launch is this FULL masterclass with Brett Yang of TwoSet Violin on Ysaÿe's Ballade. New concert videos to follow tomorrow as well. All these and more now available on my website!
Brett Yang has made a formidable reputation for himself as part of TwoSet Violin. Along with Eddy Chen, their highly amusing videos have become a phenomenon on social media, with over 1.5 billion (!) views and 8 million followers who observe their often painfully true and funny exploits as classical musicians exposed to the real world.
Despite their comedic talent, they remain first and foremost serious musicians.
Brett began his studies in Queensland, Australia and quickly became concertmaster of the Australian Youth Orchestra as well as the Queensland Conservatorium Symphony. One of his highlight performances was at the 2014 G20 Summit in the presence of Obama, Merkel, Rousseff, Abe and other world leaders. He made his debut performing the Tchaikovsky violin concerto in 2012 with the Queensland Conservatorium Orchestra and later performed Mozart's Concerto No. 4 with Corda Spiritus. Since then he has worked professionally as a violinist in the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Queensland Symphony Orchestra and Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. As a 2013 honours graduate at the Queensland Conservatorium, he was awarded the prestigious Brisbane Club Scholarship.
Today, I will have the pleasure of hearing him play and exchanging on Ysaÿe's marvellous Ballade.

When Vengerov tells you he's been watching your videos and compliments your skills.
Brett: "I peaked"
To have one of the best violinist on the world giving an introduction of their story and achievements must be an unbelievable dream for TwoSet. So happy for them
not the best
@@vanorisk One of the best! Very difficult to pick one. Augustine Hadelich? Vengerov? Hillary? Anne-Sophi Mutter, Ray Chen ?
@@eriknystrom5839 ....Heifetz..
@@vanorisk . OK, I thought we were discussing now living violinists.
@@obiwan88 What does common sense have to do with this? Common sense would tell you that, no matter how much time goes by, Heifetz still possesses a quality no other violinist has obtained.
Maxim: Also, your violin skills are … great, amazing.
Brett: 😮 *processes*
(5 seconds later)
Brett: 😅
I always forget just how good at violin Brett is when they’re doing all their goofy games and things
WHEN HE STARTS PLAYING THE NOTES ON BRETT’S SHIRT 😂😂😂😂
When The Notes Is Never Gonna Give You Up
What if it's flight of the bumblebee
Imagine if it was alto clef 😮
The awkwardness is so wholesome.
Brett grinning from ear to ear while being showered with well-deserved praise is the most wholesome and heartwarming thing I've seen for quite a while. This was very informative and enjoyable, thank you for sharing 🙂
Seeing Maxim painting like a blue collar worker at the beginning makes me love him
Fantastic work. Can't wait to share with my boy who has been introduced to violin by Twoset and now looking up to the great masters especially Maxim. Literally he went to bed tonight listening to Maxim's Ballade recording, what a coincidence!
❤
Your compliments had Brett completely stunned. Twoset has been my introduction to the classical world and to people like yourself. They are very clear on how much they look up to you and I’m sure Brett will remember this for the rest of his life.
Yeah, it’s heartwarming to see how nervous he is and almost frozen at the compliments and doesn’t seem to know how to react 😄
Vengerov îs the perfect mentor for Brett, even now as he prepares for his Mendelssohn. Vengerov has the "story" of this piece plus his amazing fiery intensity and dynamics bringing us into the piece, as opposed to just playing it. WOW! And Brett, you are amazing!
Thank you for releasing the full masterclass with Brett for free! Although I’m not a musician myself, through TwoSet, I’ve been exposed to amazing musicians , such as yourself. Your playing and teaching is so moving even for a non musician such as myself that I would rewatch your video with TwoSet 👏🏻
Well... Brett got his wish. I didn't grew up with a lot of classical music, got pushed a bit more in the direction of sports. But since I follow two set (only recently), i've listened to it so much more, learned so much more, even bought myself a beginner book for piano and start next week!! And will attend a concert from Hilary Hahn next week, so excited! I still feel like such a noob, but you got to start somewhere right. They inspire so many people and i hope they continue to do so in the future. I will certainly try to do my part. Thank you Maxim for this upload, it was so nice to see, to listnen and learn more about a little music history and about this piece. 🎼♥️
When the Hilary Hahn concert comes around, tell me how it went!
I wanted to go to Hilary so bad this week, but I really can't go. How was it?! I hope she doesn't wait so long to come back and I can go. And I also missed Vengerov playing Shostakovich, my favourite at this moment. Beter luck next time.
@@rishi-plays420 Hi! I went Friday in Rotterdam, it was soooo good!! She played 3 encore's
Thank you so much for this complete version of the masterclass. I watched the shorter version in one of TwoSet Violin’s videos but in this longer version, we get to hear all of your erudite comments which are fascinating and so constructive. Thanks to your insightful instruction, Brett’s playing is beautifully transformed.
Incredible masterclass. I'm a pianist, not a violinist - but your explanations of images and phrasing will help me rethink some of the pieces I am working on. Thank you, so much! What a privilege to watch and learn from you.
Brilliant !! What a wonderful masterclass. Thank you both for doing this. Brett really put himself out there and was willing to be vulnerable. BRAVO!! This was so inspiring!
The greatness of this two artist is the genuineness of his humbleness.
Thanks.
It’s so amazing that we get to watch this full version of this inspirational masterclass by the epic master Vengerov. I have definitely learnt a lot about the prospectives, the vision to music and the ways to tell story with music from this world-class soloist himself in this video, even though I am not a violinist but a pianist and flautist.
100% Agree. I am not a violinist, but I do think that there's always something you can learn from other musicians no matter if you do play the same instrument or not. Also is really nice having some type of understanding about other instruments, it helps me to appreciate music even more.
Thanks for sharing this masterclass in full, what a gift! Congratulations for the new website, maestro!
I love Maxims passion for storytelling and emotion through his violin. So awesome!
Maxim could throw a bottle into a tin trash can and make it sound musical.
Brett is good. Don’t get me wrong.
I practiced a ton, but some people such as Maxim are so darn musical. Their whole body and soul plays their instrument.
The difference between someone good and someone who expresses music with every movement.
Like a dance of their soul.
Just amazing to watch
Yes, exactly, well said!!
I appreciate all the insight shared in the master class. I can tell to that Brett is a bit intimidated and under a lot of pressure but he held his ground. I am motivated to go practice now 😊.
Hey, Twosetters!🙌 great to see Vengerov working with Brett. Love it!🤩
This is simply brilliant maestro Vengerov. Hopefully we'll get to see you do one with Ms Chloe Chua. Apparently you are her idol. ❤
Look at their masterclass done at the time of the Menuhin competition.
MV is a super humble guy.
Wonderful. Please do more with Twoset because they have introduced the violin and classical music to so many laypeople who would never have known how to become interested in the violin...like me.
I guarantee you that I would never have even known about you much less subscribed to your channel if it weren't for the craziness of Twoset.
Maestro Vengerov's Ysaye ballade No 3 is my fav interpretation 😍 and now Brett holds the secrets to play it so wonderfully 👏👏👏👏
I still remember it like it was yesterday, can't believe a year has passed from this wonderful master class, maestro!!
Also as a twosetter this was so exciting and insightful for many musicians, myself included. Hoping for more collaborations with TwosetViolin
Lots of love for both of you💕
Aaww, this is so wholesome, I’m going to cry..
wow, Vengerov has a story, a picture for every musical phrase! and I'm happy because it matches my story a little!! but his visions, his expressions are so clear, so natural, it's like I'm really there, lost and directionless with him. this piece for in my opinion is a tale, of desperation, trying ti find your way out, for me it would be out of my own head. the questions you ask, the answers you can't find, a whole jumble of emotions a spiral. and I see colors too! I see, a blend of deep reds and, blue and purple. like a sea really. it's very dark too. idk where I'm going with this, but that is how this piece makes me feel. so beautiful. this piece represents hitting rock bottom. when you can't do anymore, you don't want to go on, but something inside you tells you to keep pushing and so you struggle tirelessly. I'd love to to learn Ysayë's Ballade one day!😆
Twoset introduced me to classical music and contemporary greats of clssical music and now to see them with these great artists ... Wow... We have all come a long way.
The introduction/dedication in the beginning was so beautifully written. If I was Brett I probably would’ve cried listening to it haha
I can’t be the only one envious of Vengerov’s massive bookcase in the back full of beautiful books of music while here I am with piles of music printed out from illegal site on the internet?
Envious when he had to pay and you got it for free?
@@M_SC it looks nice tho
I am so happy! Two of my favourites in one juicy video!
Vengerov's place is gorgeous. Handsome attire.
I'd love it if Brett could play this on the strad and post a recording.
I’ve studied music for 40 years. And the thing that is always the most important is the feel. Anyone can learn technique if you practice enough. Anything is playable as a mentor of mine used to say.
I’m not talented. I just tried hard.
But you can immediately tell when someone ‘ plays’ a piece and someone else makes it ‘ music’.
And this for me took decades.
The young man is wonderful, really good. And it’s so amazing to see Maxim teach him to make it musical.
God I love music.
Thank you for this.
I unfortunately cannot play anymore because of a repetitive stress injury. But watch thing this fills my heart.
What an honor to be watching two masters at work. What a joy to be feeling the emotions with every bow. Completely speechless and in awe.
Thank all of you so much for the video this helps me a lot in understanding the musicality of such masterpiece
I enjoy your masterclass videos, Maxim so very much. I'm not a string player but I am a musician and I learn so much. And Brett, I love hearing you living your dream. Looking forward to your Mendelssohn.
Now I NEED to go to a Vengerov's concert
Two set violin made me resume my violin lessons and I discovered your channel today. You people make this world a wonderful place. Thank you ❤️
Omg I love how Maestro Vengerov shares historical details of different wonderful musicians, he knows so much and I'm here to get it all!!! 👏👏👏 Wow wow wow
It wasn't much better... Besides all the great technical, expression and skill study, this is frustrating for students, in general, when philosophy can fool music, and it feels in exercise with teacher! But still, working this hard goes to an eliberation, an original vision, a greater inspiration and revelation during the concert!
Oh my goodness, my favourite violin piece and my favourite violinist teaching! Maestro, you mentioned at the beginning the breathtaking numbers of TwoSet channel, but imho your channel deserves at least very same popularity. What a great time to have such a virtuoso just within range of your arm! Anyway would be fantastic to hear you live in Poland! Brett, you were also fantastic!
TwoSet are great musicians and violinists.
So inspirational to see how Vengerov pictures all these different sceneries, stories, paintings, colors, feelings and so on to interpret this piece, making this difficult piece great music packed with emotion. A small look into a big artists brain. And also soo cool to see how Brett picks it up so quickly. Amazing!
Bring the very best of humanity into playing music!!!! This is the goal and Maxim is doing wonderful in propelling music forwards! So many people look up to TwoSet (including me) and these interactions are what will connect music with future generations! So amazing! Bravo! Beautiful!
Oh my God! How amazing seeing Vengerov paint walls!!! What a surprise!
I really appreciated this long version where more of your explanations are added.
Your musicality is really outstanding!
All though I'm a trumpeter, I would be happy to have a masterclass with you myself to be honest, just for your insight in phrasing and musicality over all.
My God you sound good!
I'm so impressed.
👏👏
Ysaye himself would have adored everything about this!
I watched this once already and will watch again. Mr. Vengrov you are an insightful, inspirational and gracious teacher.
This is a precious video! I had almost lost hope to see the whole lesson, thank you for uploading it and making it available to the future generations!

I must say a Thank You for your efforts, collaboration, and my Two Set Violin vs Bass Davie 504 T shirt!
What a lesson! Vengerov is such a great storyteller, mentor and pedagogist. WOW WOW WOW
Oh. My. Gosh. TwoSet must be so thrilled, I’m thrilled just watching this and I’m not a violinist, just an admirer of the instrument and the incredibly talented people that can make it sing 💖💖💖🥰
Fantastic! Thank you so much for posting the full version!
Please, come back to play in Brussels again. We miss you terribly! The highlight of life here are your concerts and Lakatos's!
Why does the master starts this masterclass with house painting? On purpose. One needs to build muscle power and will power to play like mr. Vengerov. And emotional strength too. Wonderful playing, exhilarating. Thank you so much, master Vengerov. Brett, wonderful! Thank you so much too
I work on this sonata, because i love it, my job at orchestra don't give me so much time to work on it, but you'r advice are precious ! Thx master.
I had a performance with this piece 3 months ago... IF JUST this Video had been online beforehand...!!! This was just mindblowing exquisite quality of teaching and musicianship. For the next performance in 17 years all of your little secrets will be employed hahahaha
AMAZING! As a Twosetter and a big fan of Maxim, this video really cheered me up. What a fantastic teacher and interesting student!
Thank you so much for the complete version of this wonderful masterclass Maestro Venegrov!
What a killer combination! Thank you, Maxim and Brett, for this 🙏🙏
Tremendous master class. Master Vengerov's way of teaching is very complete. They use example, sounds, imagination and theatricality. Take teaching beyond technique. It is the fusion with music and the way of expressing art.
Thank you 🙏
I was really hoping for a split screen. In a live masterclass it's great seeing both in my FOV. Ah well, will take what I can.
This is the best masterclass I have ever seen, I have lost count of how many times I have watched it and I'm not even a violinist. How you break down the music, the interpretation, the phrasing, the harmony, its just magnificent and gives one so much more insight into the music. Thank you!
wow, you could hear Brett improving every step of the way, and Maxim is such a master that it changes your whole perspective of the piece!
Hahaha love the beginning wall painting session😂 such a contrast
Haha! Riiigght?!! 😂
This masterclass is so wonderful, so rich in performing experience and useful information! I realized many things for me even playing the piano, not violin! Thank you very much!❤🙏
Thank you, maestro! Very grateful to be a fly on the wall.
MV is an unbelievably good teacher. I love how he uses imagery and metaphors in his teaching.
I've never seen Brett so quiet and shy...an honour taking lessons from a master, and humbling, and you chose one of the hardest pieces, nicely done. (Would Heiftez have come on your show?...naw)
WoW what a huge improvement!
Twoset made me love classical music and I started taking violin lessons 7 months ago at 23 years old. This masterclass really gives me a level to strive for. I was absolutely amazed by your musicality and how you shared your understandings of the music. I really think this video will help figure out some tips to play the violin better even if I cannot play big pieces for the moment.
Thanks for this masterclass, I am a fan of TwoSet and after this, I am your fan. OMGosh, you are soo good at the playing but also an excellent instructor. I love your analogies and they help me to understand the expression of the music. I think maturity comes into play.
My gosh - hearing this piece for the first time, I didn't like it because it was too complex and abstract. Now, Vengerov surgically dissects it and I'm totally hooked. It's his superhuman power. I hope there will be much more to come.
TwoSet first rekindled my desire to pick up my old violin, then introduced me to a bunch of soloists and orchestras which in turn remind me to watch TwoSet, which also make me watch other content that makes me watch more TwoSet. It’s a formidable combination. I learned of Vengerov through their videos, and really like his energy and guidance.
have been waiting for this!!!!so precious🎉🎉🎉
Respect to his dedication to teaching here
Thank you so much for uploading the full video. I previously watched the short version on twoset and it helped me appreciate this piece so much more.
Yay! My favorite artists together ❤️
This was so helpful! Especially about starting the bow already with movement for better sound.
I hope once we will heard music made by Maxim as composer. His music understanding is unique, he like music as a little kid but understand it like a professor.
You and plenty of musicians have inspired me to start orchestra myself! I started playing violin 3 months ago and currently I’m learning can can by the amazing man himself Bach! My amazing teacher Mr. Bailey has been on tv 3 or 4 times for the cello I’m pretty sure and he is a cellist and he just had a concerto today along with my principal Ms. baker she plays the viola and both of them were the principals for the concerto! Thank you for inspiring me so much!
Looking forward to hearing what Mr Vengerov will compose- I’m sure ir will be very exciting!
I'm a dummy just beginning viola and this is so inspiring! Thank you! (heading off to practice because of this!)
This is absolutely amazing and every young (and-not-so-young) musician should watch!
Omigosh. I was gonna reply in the FB post that you will be showing this but I never imagined we'd finally get to see it. Happy!!!
Amazing 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Beautifully played, Brett. And I always enjoy your feedback, Mr. Vengerov ... it adds so much more emotion to the piece.
Thank you Mr Vengerov I loved this class. i really liked how you drew out some necessary technical aspects, but always emphasised above all the story within the music, and how you shared your vision of this with Brett and us. I really felt that you opened for Brett a pathway for deeper connection with this piece and like you i was "bravo" and "nailed it" and clapping at the end with Brett's expression, which did feel, as you said, personal, as if he had written it himself.
Brett I am in awe of anyone doing a masterclass, and while I'm sure you've done them before, doing it on YT !....but, as a viewer i got so much out of this too, and i'm not even a musician; this piece was unknown to me, i dont know the composer either, but his masterclass really helped me engage with this music and i was surprised how fascinating I found it. That middle section OMG (Mr V said it's about pain) was just like re-enacting one of my migraines coming on, it actually made me feel a bit queasy.... then the final section in contrast is so liberating. So engaging. All up, this has been a must-watch 75 minutes. Thank you both.
Incredible masterclass! Thank you so much for sharing, Mr. Vengerov! I honestly would have never guessed that Twoset would have the opportunity to collaborate with such an inspiring and amazing violinist like you! I have learned so much from this video and hope to apply what I've learned in my own time practicing. :)
Hi Maxim. You are a man of many talents. When you have a break in your schedule, could you paint MY house? I'll play violin music while you paint. (I hope you like Stephane Grappelli. You really don't want to listen to my playing.) 😄
I loved this masterclass! Super educational and stunning performances from both! Twoset got me into classical music and that's why I'm playing the violin now for more than 2 years already. One day in the far future I want to learn the ysaye ballad too! And maybe there's even a new recording of your performance to listen to out then 😍
Thanks for inspiring us Maxim ❤️🧡💛
Wow thank you so much for loading the full video! This is so educational for us and also entertaining.
bret and eddie must be overwhelmed to get it from one the OGS😊❤
This was a joy to watch! Thank you for sharing your talents with us, for helping us to learn and grow as musicians, and for helping us to understand these beautiful pieces of music. 💐
Love it! Amazing Job Brett
Maxim's enthusiasm and ability to put words and pictures to the music, makes me so happy!
Thank you so much for showing us the masterclass 🙏
The first time I heard Maxim play this piece, it blew my socks off so that now whenever I hear Ysaye, I can only hear Maxim’s interpretation of it..
