- Double trouble maybe? Brett and Eddy from TwoSet violin dropped by in October (the month of Esplanade's birthday) to borrow our Concert Hall for a spin on their Strads. While they were here, we got them to do a little ELI5.

Regarding the question about the role of violins in the orchestra, Brett and Eddy just look like two dads trying to convince kids that the violin is the best instrument so that the kids will choose to learn violin.
Which is kinda sad, because it's one of the hardest to learn and you won't stand out if you play it, you'll be one of like 20 people in your orchestra who also play it.

I recall watching Violin Olympics from a few years ago, and Brett held a note for about 48 seconds and Eddy for about 45 seconds.

Because of TwoSet, I have renewed interest in the violin again. I played both violin and cello a while back; then family life happened and I had to put my playing aside. My husband saw how I had missed playing and gifted me with a violin for Christmas. I am quite content now; and will soon be receiving a cello within the next few months. Thank you so very much TwoSet, your videos have ignited a spark within me that sat dormant for too long. 🥰❤🥰❤

Brett and Eddy are always so humble about their skills. But actually, they have something that makes their duets just pure magic and that’s the special connection only best friends playing together since childhood can develop. Watching them perform is like watching Happiness personified. 🥰🎶

Eddy used to have a channel called Eddy chen with loads of teaching videos. Look it up, the videos are still online. I particularly recommend the video on vibrato if you struggle with it beacuse it helped me a lot

Actually, it was called E Chen. They were very good. Brett also had a vlog called Brettybang, I think.

When they introduced themselves at the beginning I thought they would say "And this is our masterclass" like in one of their previous videos
I've been a Two Set fan from the beginning and I was thinking about why I find these cute guys so enjoyable to watch. Besides their clever and humorous take on classical music, I think their combination of contrasts make them interesting. For example, they are Asians but they have strong Australian accents; Brett is smaller in stature but has a deeper bass voice, while Eddy is taller with a tenor-sounding voice; they act goofy but are talented musicians and deeply respectful of each other; and last but not least, they make fun of themselves in comparison to major stars like Hilary Hahn and Ray Chen but include these stars in their pranks. I never get bored watching and listening to them.
Brett & Eddy are an absolute delight and joy to listen to and learn from. Thank you to all who run this channel. Your fine work in this interview is greatly appreciated. Please stay healthy and take care.
