R.I.P Shane 💋❤
His new documentary with Johnny Depp as a Narrator and friend is so good.
It's beautiful the way the sun comes in through his ears.
It's true. Or is it ideas coming out rather than sun coming in, radiators for the brain, if you will?? Unfortunate lighting for one of his most coherent interviews!!

Shane MacGowan songs will still be sung in a hundred years and more. Torch bearer
he's 28 here and its pretty much the last year of his life where he was lucid and fluent in his speaking
No he already drunk but being young coped well
Greatest songwriter of his generation
Awww look at his wee face!! A true legend and a lyrical poet
He did that 'Scchhhheee' laugh even back then, I thought it was a modern thing.
Watch the Alex Cox Movie, Straight to Hell, there's scheeee heeeing galore from a very young Shane.
It's good to see Shane being able to hold a conversation without inaudible slurring.
The man's a genius 💚
It was sad to see him on the late late show
Great show all the same. Good tribute to an icon 👌🏻
Man, watching this makes me sad and happy at the same. I'll always love Shane but it breaks my heart to see him in his condition now.
🙏
The Pogues live, a force of nature for sure. Shane is 100% rock n roll on stage. The man was born to do this, and he does it as well as the very best.
Love the man who sings from the heart on the Irish who traveled the world.
legend
Even half soused, he can spit out lyrics faster than anyone. God Bless Shane!
It's really weird to see Shane being coherent.
and with teeth
But he really isn't though here, he's exactly the same in terms of what he's talking about, it's the speaking speed. It's really odd
shane is the man
love the sun coming through his ears
Love Shane's laugh.
I couldn't believe someone had the same laugh I got teased for since a child. I was quite pleased it was Shane.
One of my very first concerts was the Pogues at the Ritz, NYC 1987. Right about the time of this footage. They were brilliant.
I met him at a gig in a north london pub with The Dubliners in tge early nineties
Amazingly, In person, he could be quite shy. So, no it doesn't surprise me at all he seemed embarrassed when he said the name of the band meant 'kiss my ass' 😂 but it is quite funny.
it was an incredible honour to meet you. The world has lost a top poet and musician but a wonderful and humanitarian person too. He really was a geniius, a one-off. DEP sensitive soul, thanks so much for the music. 😢😢😢
I taped this same episode of ROCK ARENA when it first aired on Aussie TV back about 85 or 86 and I still have the VHS tape. I have put 1 song from that tape on You Tube.
"Cccccccchxxxxxhhhhhhh" - shane macgowan
Haha 😂
God love him probably the most sober I’ve seen him in an interview
Forever my favourite Band and Lead Singer! My father played with him and the Dubliners a song bc he was in an irish-folk punk Band to :O but I never met Shane or the others Like The Dubs 😕😢
Oh and omg his laugh is weird but amazing xD
Shane kind of looks like he could be on Wallace and Gromit. he's just such an interesting character..
Omg he does 🤣
I met him once in Dublin. lovely fella
Drinks like a beast
Antoine is a really cool guy.
Just to clarify he is far far far from sober 😂 what a legend
That was too perfect to be live I think (Sally Maclenane).
Amazing. Met Shane back about this time and lovely to see him so coherent. such a waste in a way. TAL
Sincere thanks for sharing this.
My pleasure!
Yes! The ears just glow. It's lovely.
fantastic post
Rare video of Shane where he's sober and you can actually make out the words.!!
Who says he's sober
@@ethanholland8730 Because if he wasn't he'd be speaking in a dialect not known to humans
Interviewed in the Devonshire Arms, Camden Town. That was a pub, Ned, Eilish, Andrew and Eamon. A short walk from Rock On records. Life was almost perfect.
Has it closed down? Used to be a goth favourite 20 years ago i recall.
In the80s it was known as a musicians pub, we also had a darts team and a football team, this was well before it became a goth pub. It was really an Irish pub as were many around Camden Town in those days.
All pogues songs are class ...but if I was only to pick one it would body of an american...go on Tipperary.!!!
@ Max Wright. You took the words right out of my mouth. lol
Never misses a beat
I didnt think he laughed like that when he was younger. I thought that was his older laugh haha!
Shane makes sense..and talks well ..lol.
Souvenirs quand tu nous tiens
Best
I think it was funny that he actually seemed a bit embarrassed to say "Kiss my arse".
Timothy O'Brien he was actually quite shy in his youth and and needed a couple of gallon to sing confidently
I can confirm that. Met him in his youth and yes, he could be quite shy.
It was probably because he was so sentisive and shy that he turned into that fearless, wild singer who was usualy drinking when he was on stage. Top bloke, excellent poet and singer but, above all, a great person! DEP kind soul. ☘️ 😢❤
@@user-cg6kc1ie3l I was a fan when I didn’t have to see him.
ive been binge watching videos on drink...drinkers..people who drink...places to drink....
Shane ends up all over my feed
arrrgghhh DRY JAN 2020 hurry up and end i need a pint
Me too! Some great ones with Oliver Reed!
@@worldwide_ghosts_channel o Toole story about the pork chop … classic
I did not know Roy Keane could play the tin whistle.
The greatest comment I've ever seen on youtube!!!
Put some respect on Spider’s name
Always cigarettes and Gin.
The cartoon 'eraserhead' from those vintage 80s 7-UP commercials.
He looks like a character from Wallace and Gromit
Shane?
Nice to see Shine sober for a change.
You comment under every Shane macgowan video hahaha
💚
Drink game: you have to drink every time Shane says "you know".
I'm smashed and didnt even reached half the video
Or have a drink every time Shane has a drink.
Shane is a prime example that too much alcohol causes brain damage. He was coherent here and sharp and as the years rolled he deteriorated more and more
No shit Sherlock... maybe you should be Dr. Mickey Mouse ..
Tearitloose Tearitloose you’ll find there’s more people that just think he’s drunk now rather than suffering from wet brain syndrome. So I wouldn’t call it stating the obvious
You dont have to be a doctor to know that drinking and smoking heavily all your life will eventually fuck you up.....
The only band were the guitar is the least exciting instrument.
theres two guys sitting at this table and at least 6 drinks :D
Rock Arena. An old ABC (Australia) TV music show.
Good lord, he's understandable!
"ya know what a mean"
He the human version of Wallace and Grommet
all shane has to do is laugh at his own jokes and everyone will think hes funny as hell
that actually says alot about life
uaheuhaeua thats the secret, thats why we love him
he should be able to hear himself sing without any problems
Going by the old saying 'never trust a man who does not drink', Shane must be a very trustworthy person.
the sound of a airport toilet flushing
Shane McGowan is legent his music will play for ever
Almost weird to see him actually lucid and able to talk properly.
Shame really.
I've never seen another interview with him even close to being this sober.
@Duckshirt shane is always drunk lol
E don't woncha ta feel sorry for im .
The bard of all bards
the prognosticator of prognosticators
nhahhahahah
I meant to say 'late singer'.Lol!
Shane looks like a Disney Cartoon. Which being an Irish American he would have loved.
@TravisDrago Wildcats of Kilkenny from the Rum, Sodomy and the Lash album.
Is this downloadable somewhere in higher resolution?
I've only got it on VHS and haven't seen it referenced anywhere else.
what song is at the start
Wild cats of kilkenny. 9 years too late lol
Celtic Punk did not exist until the Pogues formed.
Maybe in Ireland snd Britain. In Sydney, Australia we had a Celtic punk band lead by a Scotsman Alistair Hewlett called Roaring Jack. Their songs related to the political landscape of the times and history of Australia.
@@James-wj8eq so you're saying Celtic Punk was invented by an Australian?
The originally badly drawn bhoy.
Whats the bob dylan stuff at the start, sounds like it from his biography
@popcornrabbit07 he didnt
Gotta love the teeth eh?
@popcornrabbit07 LEAD singer
He sounds like he’s got a bit of Norfolk in the accent
He’s from Tunbridge Wells
As a kid he lived in Tunbridge Wells and Brighton, and spent quite a lot of time in Co. Tipperary. Later on he started The Pogues in London.
He was perfecting his plastic Paddy accent
Is the real grommit under the table?
With their late singer?
Lead singer 😁
Son of Nosterafatu (the original vampire - Klaus Kinski) Remember him?
Before Shane started pretending tot all how he did

"AND THE BAND PLAYED WALTZING MATILDA" RIGHTEOUSLY SHOULD BE THE AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL ANTHEM . A.N.Z.A.C. BROTHERS AND SISTERS. JESUS WEPT!!!🤧 😏🤗
Is he sober here?!?
He is never sober lol
Shane went back to his Irish routes. Thank god. But he’s still a Brit.😂
He was born I Ireland and will never be a brit u thick and We are happy to say he is irish
G Summy clown
Explain how he is a Brit?
@@denishynes2182 Just reading his biography. Born on christmas day 1957 in pembury hospital, Turnbridge Wells in Kent. Wheather you consider him Irish or English is up to yourself but he was not born in Ireland. Im irish btw
He's a spoilt little prick born in England. The most rebellious thing he's ever done is not brush his teeth
Ah he is English?
Born in Kent, England to an Irish republican family. His grandfather held the rank of commandant (major) in the Irish War of Independence. Shane McGowan had no love of England and confessed that he wished to join the Irish Republican Army during the Northern Ireland Troubles to fight against the British. McGowan turned to music to console himself for not being in the Irish Republican Army.
Wonder why he never bothered getting his teeth done back in the day with all the wedge he made.
Top geezer regardless though
wasted lifes.....
Toni garcia romero not really, just doing what they do !
teeth
before he had an Irish accent.
sounds like English to me.

His teeth look great in this; what happened to them since?
Jeremy Clapham years of boozing it up every day and heavy smoking
this video is 32 years old. what do you think happened. (clue - watch REAL closely and you MAY see him drinking and smoking)
They look great? You sure?
@@JaneDoe-xi6ec he had something wrong with them. Wasn't cuz of drinking and smoking.
@@sheldonlacosta9041 lies
I am sorry.... why does anyone consider this guy a genius? I don't hate him, don't know him, but the hero-worship is WAY too much. He is of average intelligence and aged 62 he is now an invalid taken care of by carers. I am 58 and I have seven kids. My greatest triumph is looking after those kids; telling them I love them, telling them they are amazing, making them feel so loved. I don't know if this MacGowan has kids but if he does I feel sorry for them; they are not first in his sorry life.
A me dispiace tu abbia avuto 7 figli!
While marrying, raising children are commendable, Shane McGowan, however, belongs to a small fraternity of songwriters/poets and is considered by his peers as perhaps the greatest songwriter/poet of his generation. McGowan was a genius and his songs/poems will last for millennia.
Did she say "their lage singer"?? Shane isnt dead.HaHa!
