I watched this on VHS as a kid. Even though I was a Man U fan, Sunderland probably deserved to win this game. They could easily have had 2 or 3 against us in the first half. United came up with the goods at the end just when it mattered, and won the replay 2-1.
superb performance by sunderland against a star studded man utd team. Steve agnew and mickey gray ran the show as was paul bracewell earlier though utd finished the game well on top
One of my favourite Sunderland sides. Peter Reid had them organised and working their socks off. Agnew, Ball, Scott and Kubicki were underrated and I liked the smattering of local lads in Ordy, Russell and Micky Gray (as well as Martin Smith and Lee Howey). It was a an enjoyable time for me, supporting Sunderland - even if the team wasn't the best we've ever had.

An average SUNDERLAND side we were, but on the up, great performance that night.

I was there that day 15 years old. Must of been 12 thousand Sunderland fans there

Why were there no names on the Utd shirts?
What’s with the no names on the back of the shirts?
