You have now witnessed what is widely regarded as one of the greatest live solos of all time. Terry Kath was a genius and taken from us way too soon. I was fortunate to have seen Chicago at the Fillmore East about 3 weeks prior to the Tanglewood show. Terry was on fire that night as well. RIP guitar master. 🎸🔥
This kinda stuff is why Terry Kath's contemporaries (Clapton Hendrix etc...etc....etc....) held his playing style and technique in such high esteem. Thankfully, gigs like this are carrying his legend to a new audience every day. Keep up the good work, John.
The late , great Terry Kath was a monster on guitar!. To second a comment made below, during an interview with the late, great Jimi Hendrix, the interviewer asked him how it felt being the greatest guitar player in the world. Jimi's response, "you should ask Terry Kath". Love the reaction and the music. Great job!

Jimi Hendrix famously said that he considered Terry Kath a better guitar player than he was. Chicago was the first concert I ever went to, back in 1975. A great experience for a 15 year old, although it was a bit of a buzz kill when the adult who took us made us leave early when the weed smoke started to waft our way.😢
Peter Cetera developed his unique vocal style when he had his jaw wired shut right before recording the 25 or 6 to 4 album. A man punched him in the face at a baseball game breaking his jaw.

Go dig up their debut album when they were known as The Chicago Transit Authority and play these two tracks: "Introduction" and "Poem 58". Guitar player Terry Kath wrote "Introduction" and sang lead vocals. He was called "The White Ray Charles" by his bandmates. Soulful baritone voice! "Poem 58" is nine minutes of PURE FUNK led by Terry Kath on guitar, Danny Seraphine on drums, and Peter Cetera on bass. When they were "The Chicago Transit Authority", they were the house band at the Whisky a Go Go in LA. One night between sets, Jimi Hendrix, who was in the audience, went to their dressing room after catching their first set. He walked up to their sax player Walt Parazaider and said, "You guys have a horn section that sounds like one set of lungs and a guitar player that's better than me! You wanna go on the road?" They said "YEAH!". And that's how they became Hendrix's opening act on a national arena tour.
Hello there, my friend! Love your stuff! Chicago was one of the greatest live bands I have ever seen in my life! (And I'm 58 - I've seen A LOT of bands live!) Listen to what everybody says about Terry Kath - he never got enough credit for his brilliant musical talent! And, by the way, if you're still interested in going down the Styx rabbit hole I have a song for you. It wasn't a single, but probably 98% of true Styx fans will tell you it's the greatest song that nobody's ever heard. It's called, 'Castle Walls ', and it's off 'The Grand Illusion' album. Terry Kath, the guitarist, accidentally shot himself in a tragic fatal shooting when he was fooling around with his gun, in 1978. Chicago continued on after, but were obviously never the same. More of a ballad band, later.

The band was never the same after Terry's loss tho... the massive energy/drive had left the building.
