I prefer this style of league to todays NRL to be honest. Good to see scrums and some competition for the ball. Backlines were a bit too deep, but I prefer it to flat/forward passing we have today. Some great players there on both sides
I dunno if I've ever seen Mal meninga Run so fast in all my life 😅 What a brilliant effort!! And BRANDY, gathering with one hand and sealing an excellent passage of play!!! Champagne football 😅
What a lot of people didn't realise about Bob Fulton and Mal Reilly is that despite being rival coaches, they were actually the best of friends. They spent 5 years together as Manly team mates in the early-mid 70s and won a couple of Sydney premierships together. In fact, 4 days after this game, 2 days before the 3rd test, Bob and his wife and Mal and his wife all went out to dinner together. In a way I'd say they were about even against each other. Bozo got a couple of Ashes series and a World Cup Final win over Reilly. But Mal got that 1997 ARL Grand Final win when Newcastle beat Manly.
Great game watched it again it gets better Aussie was a great side but the Widnes side was something else they played like a Australian ARL club side their backline was as good as any Sydney club of that era and with Kiwis in the forwards were more than a match for those Aussie test forwards the best Widnes pack since the 78widnes side
Like spiteful children who are losing... these Widnes players are wasting all their energy on being grubs. They should be thinking about scoring tries instead they are thinking how they will get a cheap shot in against the big stars! Real amateurism of the English and it shows at the highest level when their best players do the same thing.

thats good, its only what they do to our touring teams, sironen was "treated" far better when they played wigan
