Really, People still use this outdated broken logic? No one gives a shit if its his video, its a scumbag thing to beg for subs at the beginning or in the middle of a video. That kind of mentality tells me Aaron Won One is more focused on the number of subs he has rather than the subs themselves. Video content creators should just let their content do the talking for them instead of asking for subs right of the starting block. I'm honestly less inclined to sub to someone who is asking me to sub to their channel before I even know what their content is and how good it is.
Honestly, anyone who says "nobody told you/forced you to watch the video" is an incredibly shitty and poorly thought out retort because it doesn't make sense logically.

I subbed. I don't mind if people advertise themselves on their own videos, but I can't stand it when they go to popular CZcams channels like PewDiePie and Onision and advertise themselves. They are basically trying to leech off of other CZcamsrs when they do that.

In his tags, which is a device youtube uses to link similar content creators or videos he has "VanossGaming" "PewDiePie" "Tmartn" and "snapchat" of all things. The legality is this: if an employee willingly sells a product to someone whom intends to give said product to someone whom is under the legal age, the employee can be fired from his job, hit with fines by the state, and potentially sent to jail or prison.
Your best bet here is to just not say what the purchase is for, or you could flat out lie to them. If the employees are in the dark, they are protected from your illicit activities.

In my experience, it really depends on the person managing the store. At my main GameStop, there's this really nice guy who's had my parents approval once for the Last of Us and I've never had a problem since. I've gotten my hands on Metal Gear Solid V, Assassins Creed, Deus Ex Mankind Divided, and the list goes on. I'm not hiding anything from my parents. I'll die laughing if they have commercials against buying M-rated games for minors like they do with alcohol and tobacco.
When I was younger, probably 2003 or 2004 when Gamestop was EB Games, I was browsing and saw guides for some videogames and saw one for a game I was playing. I was writing down some cheat codes for the game since the guide was like $15 and was like 11 or 12 years old. I wrote like three or four codes and I guess the manager comes out and saw me. He says "writing the codes is like stealing and I'm going to have to ask you to leave." I was baffled. It's not like I was transcribing the whole guide. But I was like whatever since I got the codes I really wanted anyway.

They're preventing the possibility of a dozen parents coming back causing them problems trying to return it because some kid went behind the parents' back. Not to mention people try to scam money out of businesses by buying large amounts of an item (or a large ticket priced item) and returning them. Moreso if they're using gift cards, trying to confuse the clerk and end up with more money than they were supposed to get. One example, you could use Rogers gift cards to pay your bills until one guy started making fake gift cards to get his services for free. The "buying large stocks to resell" doesn't matter unless said items are on sale. And even then your company is still making money.
Sometimes it's better for them to refuse business because they either wouldn't keep that money anyway (parents return the copies) or deterring a bunch of potential customers (because they couldn't refund it, if they throw out their receipt) just for one customer. They can tell when something's going to bite them in the ass and steered clear of it.

+Nope Yep You have a point, gamestop does have a bad buying/selling ratio, but it's not as bad as You think. when they buy a game for $5 and sell it for $20, You have to incorporate the fact that it takes up space, they don't have a definite time or even possibility of a return, and that grocery stores and every other store to sell something will make a profit, probably upwards of 100/150%

No no. I'm an assistant manager at my local GameStop. The only reason why they said you couldn't buy it, is because of fraud. When people buy multiple copies of the game, it's required of us to assume that they're going to be copying and distributing it illegally. If you are old enough to buy a game, you can buy it for whoever the hell you want. Parents can buy gta 5 for their 6 year old just as long as they say it's okay. It's just buying 13 of the same game, is considered a big no no in our stores.

I went into GameStop and by mistake my wife and I accidentally switched our IDs bc I was holding all our cards and IDs when we went to Comic Con the day before. Anyway I'm 32 and while I didn't have my driver's licence, I had my concealed carry permit with my picture, birthday and address on an ID... nope wouldn't take it. I had my VA benefits card that allows me to get free medical care at any VA hospital, again it has my birthday and picture on it... nope isn't a valid ID. So I hand him my fucking GameStop credit card, power up rewards card and 3 other credit cards all with my name on them... nope wouldn't take it.
I'm like "Dude... I'm fucking 32, I have an ID that says I've served in the military, another ID that says I can carry a fucking loaded hand gun concealed legally, both of which have my picture and birthday, one has the same address u have on file and u won't let me buy Yakuza Dead Souls?"
"That's exactly what I'm telling u. U need a driver's license, state ID, or a high school or college ID... a VALID ID."
"My wife's old college ID doesn't have her fucking age on it! Are u serious!? This concealed carry weapons permit is one of the hardest permits anyone can get me you're saying it isn't a valid ID when the police and military recognize this as a valid ID?"
At that time I was getting quite upset. The employee told me I had to leave or he was calling security since I started cursing. I left and the teenager who was in there walked out and asked if I bought him some cigarettes, he'd buy me the game. I'm like u can buy this game for me but u can't cigarettes? Get the fuck outta here. I normally wouldn't care and would buy a kid some smokes. Hell, I did the same thing at his age but it was just the icing on top of the cake at that particular moment.
Moral of the story is military ID, VA benefits cards, concealed carry permit, and credit cards won't prove to GameStop your age but a college ID will. I graduated college at age 19 BTW. Fucking ridiculous...

but it's hard to FAKE a concealed carry permit. that's the point. it had his age and every required bit of ID info on it. On top of that, concealed carry means you can carry a weapon without showing you have it on you. It's a bit more intensive than a simple weapon permit.

    "They're scratch-free, hard-copy backups".
When there was a GS and a blockbuster games resell area I ran a "scheme" where I bought one stores' under-priced game to sell back to to the higher paying resell one 20-30+games were always both under-priced at one and higher-priced at another, and vice-versa a lot of times. Lasted about 2 months. I started with 50$, ended up getting like 470$. Then I was banned in both stores, in a few cities area for a while just on sight.
Funny thing is, one of the store managers who was an acquaintance and worked at another GS in a mall nearby, was the one who told me about it. She said a quite a few people where doing it at the time and it'd be a good way to get a couple games. I took it a bit farther but not tooooo far haha. Now I don't play games on consoles anymore and it makes it even funnier.

Hey Guys, old GameStop employee here. It seems that everyone is only half correct in there knowledge of laws and store policies that are being discussed in the comments. Allow me to explain the best I can:
    1) It is not illegal to sell a M rated game to a minor. It is illegal to sell rated A games, but that's not the issue here. It IS, however, against store policy to sell M rated games to minors without permission from a legal guardian. Though the clerk at the counter over exaggerated (about the alcohol thing), if the sale would have come back to them in some way, people would be fired and fined for breaking the contract one signs in order to work in a place like that. Employees need permission from guardians for a M rated game to be purchased for a minor. Guardian mean the same thing it does on a drivers permit. Not your older brother, not your cousin, not the guy you play tonsil hockey with after gym class, a LEGAL guardian. It is true that one can buy a game with said under age individual in company, however, the customer of age has to be the one to purchase it and purchase it for himself. If the staff feels that is not the case and you are buying for a minor, they have the right to protect their job. Following point below \/\/\/\/
    2) Depending on state or other regional regulations a store's management has the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason. Though reasoning doesn't have to be given, really any grounds for endangerment of employees or anything that would disturb/hinder normal business are perfectly reasonable situations.
    3) Most if not all GameStops have a pre-order limit, so this very thing doesn't happen. So having 13 reserves is quite odd. That's it... no real explanation there, I just find it odd that they allowed you to reserve so many in the first place. If one needed games for a give away or charity, then they would need to go through the distributor, or at least talk to the manager or district manager to allow it.
4)These games he had pre-ordered, are not finalized transactions, meaning even though he paid what sounds to be full price for each reserve, they are just that, a reserve. Money down, a place holder. It is the reason that an old reservation can be returned after months of just sitting there. Unlike the policies revolving a game once it is open. Or even if it wasn't, there is a finite time in which you can get a full refund after the game is actually purchased. So these were not returns, these were cancels. Which for the record hurt the individual and the store as a whole.
    and Finally...
    5) Listen guys, I'm not trying to defend GameStop (at least not on purpose) these are rules and policies that the company has set up to protect themselves from sue happy people, and people that exploit the business. And I can't blame the employee just trying to protect their livelihood, can you? Call of Duty nights are one of the biggest releases nights for GameStop, who knows who from Corporate will be there. When I worked there I was pretty strict on the rules, because they are there for a reason. Do you think companies just make them to piss people off? The employees don't have it easy there because of those same rules. You can't imagine what kind of people come in, let alone the quotas they have to fill so they don't get let go. It's stressful! I was threatened physical harm multiple times, for just talking about the rules. We hadn't even come close to the transaction. In short (well actually long if you actually read all this) don't try and work around or break the policies and rules. At any establishment really. Do you really want to be known as "that guy"? Don't be "that guy". Nobody likes him.

      @RilfDanielson Před 8 lety +1

That's a VERY slim chance considering the store didn't sell to any minors, an of-age person bought all the games and gave them to others. Also if they DID sue, they would never win, for the reason I stated above.

Parker, They wouldn't sue. It costs money to get lawyers and stuff, plus takes a while. Even if they sued they couldn't get anything, those gamestop employees sold the game to someone of age. If anything the parents would go raging at the workers and ask for a full refund (which they'd only get used price refund). lol

And right now I'm 14 and I still own it and use the card to buy games for less and other things...

They are recommendations but they help the industry have something to fall back on to say "Hey, it's right on the box, you don't want your kid buying it don't let them get below X rating." As long as it functions there is a good argument against forming a governmental ratings board, and thus a good way to prevent official censorship. If it doesn't work because of people bypassing the ratings system, you could start to see government agencies stepping in, codifying it in law, and adding actual punishments for things like the video creator was describing.
It's one of those little things that if it is circumvented here and there, no big deal. But if it started to become a problem, it can snowball into much bigger issues.

There is no question of "legal age". There is no actual law stating you must be 17 years of age to purchase a game because the manufacturers have rated it as "M" for mature. It is the same as the different rating in movies, it is just store policies.
