The thing I observed with most Tamil audience / actors is, their acting is very much into theatrical. In a sense that they are very expressive in nature. It is very fine for some extent. But for some reason Vijay has a type of extra-acting that doesn't even look good. You ask any Telugu guy if they dislike Dhanush or Rajinikanth or Kamal Hassan or even Ajith. None dislikes them. Infact we enjoy them so much. It's just vijay and his exaggerated performance that makes him looks like cringe. He has great personality offscreen. I love his speeches. In my opinion Leo was his best performance. We Telugu as well as Malayalam people are very much into subtle acting. Some of us even disliked few of the top star's movies if they have exaggerated acting. While coming to Okkadu, the entire plot was meant to be serious and grippy. We loved it. It paved Mahesh Babu career in that direction. His movies prior to this have similar expressive acting but those were not a big hit except murari. So you can understand why he chose these roles after Okkadu. Even we are used to his subtle acting and somehow we love that. Honeslty we might hate Mahesh Babu if he acts similar to Vijay. But no offense to Tamilians. They always choose entertainment and squeez most out of the film. I am 100% into it.

Okkadu was a film that went out of norms but not adding commercial elements & making it more plot driven but Ghillie added commercial elements to it, so it worked. Same with Pokiri, it was a risk MB took but was later commercialised as it was successful.
