I have served in the Assemblies of God for over forty years and welcome this Christlike gesture from our Catholic brother. For many years my prayer, which was the Apostle Paul's prayer, is that "we may all attain the unity of the faith and eventually come to see the same thing, and worship the God and father of our Lord Jesus Christ with one voice". Paul understood that we all hold different perceptions and understandings of the scripture, nevertheless he believed that we would all eventually come to see the same truth, unblemished by our human prejudices. "That we will all eventually see God even as we are seen of Him".
"Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called sons of God"

It doesn't matter which church you go to, for every Catholic priest diddling a kid there are just as many if not more youth pastors and ministers doing the same thing (I'm saying if not more because there are so many Protestants and Pentecostal, and Evangelicals and Jehovah's witnesses, Mormons... need I go on? Like I said before organized religion is a scam and you're going to have sexual predators in every religion. Yeah I'm willing to bet if the cow if chastity were removed from the Catholic church there'd be far fewer problems, in fact if all religions just were perfectly honest and admitted they are just as ridiculous as the Greeks who prayed to Zeus and Posidein, they have just as much historical evidence as YHWH and Heracles has just as much proof as Jesus

At no point did I see him drinking blood or grow horns. What is so offensive about what he said? Really? Only protestants are so bitter (I can tell just by reading all the comments) I have been to several protestant churches of several denominations. I have met good people, bad people, good pastors and worthless pastors. Yet, I prayed alongside with them and God WAS there. That is a tiny step. And for now, that is all that the Pope is asking for. Put your differences aside and focus on what we have in common which is our belief and love of Jesus Christ our savior.

I used to be Catholic and it has only been within my lifetime that the Catholic Church said that it is acceptable to study Scripture. Before this, the Catholic was to pray to God, Mary, Joseph and all the saints, go to confession, do penance, pray the Rosary, perform indulgences and follow the direction given in their Catechism. Besides all of that they were to depend on their local Priest to drive the bus to heaven. I attended a Catholic grade school and High School, the Scriptures were NEVER taught, only all the rules that one must adhere to, to be a good Catholic.
We are living in the end times and the only way that a person will "escape the wrath to come" is to come to Christ. In order to come to Christ you need to escape devotion to a person (the Pope) and learn from Christ by reading the Scriptures. Time is short and embracing a theology of many paths to heaven may sound correct but it is counter to the teachings of Christ. Doctrine is extremely important. False doctrine can lead a person to hell. One can not rely on the doctrine of any Church but should search the Scriptures to see if what they are being taught is true. That is why the Creator of the Universe gave us his Word, so that we could detect false teachers and churches.
    Proverbs 14:12
There is a way which seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.
I was raised Catholic but left the church in the 1980s over numerous theological issues. The end times are upon us and there are many within the Catholic church who realize that this is the last Pope before the return of Christ. I personally believe that this Pope is going to be the false prophet of revelation. This church has been seeking union with all religions for a long time now, especially with the Muslims. The mother church says that the Muslims have "a path to salvation" in the Catechism. Muslims do not recognize that Jesus was God, that He died on a cross for the sins of mankind or that He was resurrected from the dead.
The book of Revelation makes a call to Catholics to "come out of her" so that they may not enter into the Tribulation period that will come upon the whole earth. This period is very close, do not miss the rapture of the Church of Jesus. The Pope is making the opposite call, for all people of all different faiths to "come into her".
I sometimes express myself through my art and this Pope has brought the art out in me.

James, I am smiling while I read your post. I am so glad that you escaped the clutches of the Satanic church. I have talked to them through the years and found that tradition is hard to break. Satan has a death grip on them and they are told that the Roman Catholic Church is the one true Church going back to Peter! It is a lie from hell. It didn't start with Peter and you and I know it. Peter was sent to the Jews and Paul to the Gentiles. Paul did start a meeting in Rome but it had nothing to do with this outfit. They have murdered many through the years and have stock piled a mass of money and gold stolen from the poor. You are right when you said it was the 'Church' in the Tribulation that God will judge. Standing on the Word is the only way to know you're saved. Salvation is a free gift from God to the believer through the finished work of Christ alone. Belonging to a Church won't even get you a cup of coffee from God. Wise up people before it's to late!

Barry Wind Hello Barry, thank you for your reply. Yes, without Christ's intervention, on your behalf, it is virtually impossible for someone to leave the Catholic Church.
The Scripture verses, that they claim, proves that Peter was the first Pope are these: Thou art Peter (Petros), and upon this rock (Petra, Christ himself) I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
Petros, the name given by Jesus to Simon, means a stone, a piece of a rock which can easily be picked up and thrown. Petra means a rock or stone cliff that is immovable, a sure foundation. In English the distinction can not be made but, in Greek, it is obvious that Christ was not making the office of the Pope, where traditions and teachings of men would be enforced, but saying that the His Church, which is not one denomination, will be built upon Him.
Peter himself understood that he was not the Stone, upon which, the Church would be built.
      1 Peter 2:4-6
And coming to Him as to a living stone which has been rejected by men, but is choice and precious in the sight of God, you also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. For this is contained in Scripture:
“Behold, I lay in Zion a choice stone, a precious corner stone,
And he who believes in Him will not be disappointed.”

    • @Majorvideonut2
      @Majorvideonut2 Před 10 lety +1

You are absolutely right that is exactly what the word says and it cannot be changed. Peter is a little stone that was used of God the Rock to build his church and Peter was sent to the Jews not the Gentiles. He did the work that our Lord gave him to do and it was laid upon Paul to go into the highway and byways to call out those who would make up the body of Christ.
Don't be deceived their is only one way of salvation and one mediator between you and God the 'God man Christ Jesus our Lord'!

    • @protiebuster
      @protiebuster Před 10 lety

      Barry Wind
As Greek scholars-even non-Catholic ones-admit, the words petros and petra were synonyms in first century Greek. They meant "small stone" and "large rock" in some ancient Greek poetry, centuries before the time of Christ, but that distinction had disappeared from the language by the time Matthew’s Gospel was rendered in Greek. The difference in meaning can only be found in Attic Greek, but the New Testament was written in Koine Greek-an entirely different dialect. In Koine Greek, both petros and petra simply meant "rock." If Jesus had wanted to call Simon a small stone, the Greek lithos would have been used. The missionary’s argument didn’t work and showed a faulty knowledge of Greek. (For an Evangelical Protestant Greek scholar’s admission of this, see D. A. Carson, The Expositor’s Bible Commentary [Grand Rapids: Zondervan, 1984], Frank E. Gaebelein, ed., 8:368).
Beyond the grammatical evidence, the structure of the narrative does not allow for a downplaying of Peter’s role in the Church. Look at the way Matthew 16:15-19 is structured. After Peter gives a confession about the identity of Jesus, the Lord does the same in return for Peter. Jesus does not say, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jona! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. And I tell you, you are an insignificant pebble and on this rock I will build my Church. . . . I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven." Jesus is giving Peter a three-fold blessing, including the gift of the keys to the kingdom, not undermining his authority. To say that Jesus is downplaying Peter flies in the face of the context. Jesus is installing Peter as a form of chief steward or prime minister under the King of Kings by giving him the keys to the kingdom. As can be seen in Isaiah 22:22, kings in the Old Testament appointed a chief steward to serve under them in a position of great authority to rule over the inhabitants of the kingdom. Jesus quotes almost verbatum from this passage in Isaiah, and so it is clear what he has in mind. He is raising Peter up as a father figure to the household of faith (Is. 22:21), to lead them and guide the flock (John 21:15-17). This authority of the prime minister under the king was passed on from one man to another down through the ages by the giving of the keys, which were worn on the shoulder as a sign of authority. Likewise, the authority of Peter has been passed down for 2000 years by means of the papacy.

Petros vs Petra Jesus spoke aramaic not Greek. The Aramaic leaves no room for the Petros/Petra distinction. In Aramaic the work for rock is Kepha(rock) and upon this Kepha(rock) I will build my church.

The Catholic Church played a role in creating hatred but here we have a spiritual leader who offers reconciliation and some of you retreat in anger and fear.
You do not have to acknowledge the Pope as your spiritual leader but recognize what he is doing.
The Pope's other title is Pontiff, which comes from the Latin roots when the Roman Empire existed. The pontiffs were the Roman priests who were in charge of the bridges crossing the Tiber River. The Pontifex Maximus was the chief priest.
Some of us recognize that what Pope Francis is doing is officiating this ancient office. He is building bridges over the gap of religious intolerance.
You may continue to express your distrust and fears. I am sorry for you clinging to your old ways and not willing to listen.

Unity will come. It will happen when all believe in the true presence of Christ in the Eucharist, and all the faithful follow Peter. For where Peter is, there is the Church. Don't forget, we have our Blessed Mothers promise at Fatima, "In the end, My Immaculate Heart will triumph."

NO,unity will never come unless everyone understand what happen after the cross. The Bible is clear that the Gospel of Christ ,the gospel of Grace must be preached to all nations. All religions has its own dogma and even profess they are Christians not withstanding they don’t even know what it is to be a Christian. They believe, they know Christ and love Christ so they are Christians.CHRISTIAN means CHRIST IN ME.when you delete Christ in the word CHRISTIAN,WHAT IS LEFT IS IAN,MEANING I AM NOTHING WITHOUT CHRIST.To be a christian you must have the identity of CHRIST.You have His mind in your born again spirit, you talk His talk and you walk His walk. This can only be done if you are born again by believing He is the Son of God,died for our sins and was raised from the dead on the third day,and call Him to come into your life and be The Lord and Savior of you life.Subsequently be baptized of the Holy Spirit and continuously read the Bible to renew your mind so you are in line with His word, replacing your thought by His thought. It is clear after the cross that we live by grace,as we are under the Covenant of Grace(The New Covenant) not by the law.Jesus Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law,Yet all religions are still living under the Law(10 commandments.)WE CAN ONLY BE UNIFIED IF ALL OF US IS LIVING UNDER THE COVENANT OF GRACE, THE NEW COVENANT.

As the Catholic Church preaches unity of the body(Church) of Christ, the Protestants continue to say,no let us stay fragmented, so who has the spirit of God , here?is it not Jesus who taught ,be one ,love one another, then the world will know you are my disciples. 24 Now when the Pharisees heard it they said, “This fellow does not cast out demons except by [e]Beelzebub, the ruler of the demons.”

The One World Religion will be based around the worship of anti-Christ; so I am not afraid of my brother Francis' invitation into fellowship and forgiveness. Any student of church history will be able to point the finger of condemnation, and rightly so, at the misdeeds of our historic past, Catholic and Protestant alike. But there is the problem; so many are not students, they are simply religiously indoctrinated. And so our fears, from one generation to the next, are passed on as truth. My personal feeling is that the closer we get to the heart of God the closer we will get to one another. Out in the darkness there is furious debate; but the closer we get to the light we find fewer reasons for separation.

It wasn't called the Dark Ages for nothing. Millions of Europeans didn't just leave their beloved church overnight for nothing. They were forced to pay to get into heaven, bibles in their local languages were not permitted, people were being mislead and abused by the bad priests of the church, it was all about power and control and not about God.
The Protestant break-way had to happen and the blame can only be pointed at the leadership of the Catholic church. There is still so many flaws in the Church of Rome both on a religious base and in everyday life e.g. priest child abuse etc that they have along way go go before unity could ever be considered again.

      @itsnotallrainbowsandunicor1505 Před 10 lety +1

***** Actually it really was not the dark ages except expressed by liberal historians. The dark ages were after the fall of the Roman Empire. Let's not forget the Irish monks that kept a number of the manuscripts and continued to translate and copy. Everything had to be done by hand back then. " They were forced to pay to get into heaven." I loled. Nobody was forced, but there was an abuse with indulgences. But you miss the point of what happened. So many were willing to get to heaven by paying for it and trying to circumvent the process of holiness and sacrifice. So when Luther threw down the alternative, the reaction was many defected to the side of Luther. (One could say God's way of allowing his church to be cleansed). But then things started getting really bad for Luther. Many started making up their own rules. Luther protested. Oh well, Luther: the pot calling the kettle black. He shacked up with a nun. Even by protestant sensibility at that time, it was considered a grievous sin. That's right, according to him, if you are going to sin then sin boldly. What utter bollocks.

***** Man made smoke screens... and yet when you read the bible Christ used symbols as sacraments. John the Baptist with ..well baptism. Turning the water into wine, confession of sins... such as the woman at the well and don't forget Mary Magdalene. Christ said to them your sins are forgiven. I could go on, but this is youtube. If you bothered to pickup the a book about the various saints you might be surprised. Your personal relationship with God is better than nothing, and considering the hedonism in this world you stand apart from many. But it is not enough. Christ told his apostles to go preach the gospel to the four corners in the world. With a bible ... certainly not. They were also told to baptise. One's faith has to extend beyond just a personal relationship. If salt loses its flavor than what good its it than to be thrown on the ground and treated like gravel. So peace then, even though we choose to disagree.

The fact that I am a sinner does not mean, that I have to give allegiance to the pope for the sake of unity. I call it allegiance because I will have to kiss his ring and vow, showing him in this matter, that he is the vicar of Christ(as he pretends)as a condition, to be accepted as one who wants peace.
That cannot be our own pattern, understanding or principle of, what is love. Only God is love. God’s love has a divine pattern, made simple for us to understand, through principles. It is not the principle that saves us, but the transformation it brings within us, without the power of our own pattern, understanding or principle of what is love.
The Spirit(more specifically the Holy Ghost) units us not to turn our backs to the law of God(that is His character of love), but to enable us through the law, to embrace each other, that is within His love, what makes It possible to be one, as God the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost are one.
Within this condition Protestantism will end. Because there is nothing to protest about.

As a Cradle Catholic and an Italian, I love it; as an American, I applaud it; as a member of the race called "Man," I yearn toward it. No matter what one's race, culture, or national origin might be, who would not love to see Mankind at peace, one with another? An atheist's child bleeds in war the same as a Theist's. Why would s/he not applaud a greater unity among persons and peoples--even if s/he did not share those particular beliefs, if only those whose beliefs brought a greater peace for believers and non-believers alike to enjoy? I struggle to understand a mindset that would rather see division than unity; that would rather have persons and nations divided and antagonistic than seeing each other as equals and brothers/sisters. They seem to believe "Peace would be great---unless the Pope could arrange it--then "Let slip the dogs of war!"
Is it just me, or is something vital wrong with that picture?
It's strange that so many who profess "tolerance" of so many various cultures and behaviors, vehemently reject out of hand anything Catholic or Christian.
Sadly, Catholicism is the last acceptable prejudice in this country, and indeed, in the world.
Oh, well, some people just NEED to hate and ridicule SOMETHING; and as Jesus Christ famously said (and I paraphrase), "If they do thus to the Master, what can the servants expect?" So okay, we Catholics expect and deal with it; but when someone has the key for Mankind to begin the long journey toward peace, it would be nice if the naysayers took a second look--or a third, ninth, fourteenth, seventy-fifth look. I don't see any atheists or snarky naysayers offering anything better.

When a humble and franky man is stretching his hands towards you, you are full of prejudices. Isn't that the very deed of devil in your minds and hearts?
He likes division, he creates fear instead of trust and love.
We should all set aside our prejudices and historical wounds, and start to see with Father's eyes, feel with His heart. For the pope is really trying to live according that.

God Bless you!"Thank you" and we do Pray for you.Unity is not only the vision of the "miracle" (you referred to), of us all beginning to be united together here and throughout the world, but more importantly our unitedness through the/our Soul i.e. God's Divinity. This is even more so for all of us in our Salvation, because the greatest "union with God"( which we also have, in through and with each other), is through that or our /one's "Divine " connection in Him, through Him and with Him. Obviously the higher the state of the/ one's Soul, until top " Divinity" is reached, the nearer to God's Beatitudes we come , in our future (even present) experience! So all this is extremely important "individually" as well as "collectively". The former with our regards to life in Heaven or Hell and the latter in regards to real Peace in the world. One thing is for sure that we do experience"new life" in death!Anyway, if one is Baptised in Jesus Christ and "If we live for the Lord and die for Him, whether we are rich or poor, how could one, apart from sin, ever be separated from Him! It seems to me impossible! Especially when "He cannot disown His own self"???May God Bless you and yours etc., with Great love and happiness, now and always!"Joy to the world" xxx🎶❤️🎶👍😀😘🍀💒🍀

The Scriptures say in Ephesians 4:5- one Lord, one faith, one baptism. Protestants say "40,000 different faiths, 40,000 different baptisms". You tell me who follows scriptures correctly. To accept the bible is to accept the authority of the Catholic Church, because it was the Church that put the bible together and determined the canon of it. Catholics decided in the order the books should go in. Catholics added chapters & verses in the year 1251 by an Archbishop named Stephen Langston. Catholics were started by Christ. :Protestants were started by men with fallible pastors running 40,000 different directions claiming the interpretation of the bible alone doesn't cause different beliefs. What the soul is to the body, The Holy Spirit is to the Church. The Holy Spirit is not a Spirit of confusion and would never mislead people to another different belief much less 40,000 different beliefs. Common sense has to kick in our Protestant brothers and sisters. All the early Apostles are buried inside Catholic Churches. Don't believe? Then go visit places like the Holy Land, Rome, Europe, etc....

Bread is still bread and wine is still wine in the eyes of the unbeliever. Jesus said " Do this in memory of Me. " As a Catholic , I do this in memory of Him. God/ Jesus /and the Holy Spirit have been with me my whole life. There was never a time when I didn't feel him close. He/ They lived in my home and many major miracles were a blessing on my family. It is true, sad to say, many Catholics don't know what is in the Bible and many atheists do, but knowledge without the wisdom of The Holy Spirit to interpret the full meaning of the Word is a misfortune to the reader. The Protestant Bible is derived from the Catholic Bible but they rejected some of the Books. The first to translate the Bible into English was John Wycliffe. It was called the Wycliffe Bible. After him Martin Luther translated it into German and James 1st translated it into English. The Catholic Bible was the Bible used for 15 centuries until the Protestant Revolt, with the Deuterocanonical Books removed. The early Church did accept these as Scripture. . God does not want everyone to turn Catholic. Stay where you are in your Christian walk of faith and that is all He asks. All men stand before God in the same manor and God loves each one as if he were the the only person on Earth. Men turn from God, not the other way around. I am truly sorry for you experiences in your walk but where ever you are , I hope God is still a part of your life. The one thing to know about being a Christian is that we all adhere to the core message of the Word , Jesus died for our salvation . Bless you and those you hold dear.

      Why aren't Catholics Christians?
"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." Ephesians 2:8-9

      Exactly :)

While God inspired men to write the Books of the Bible , it took a council of men to put the Books together. We have the historical documentation to prove it. The bible was assembled by a group of early church leaders named the Council of Nicaea and further canonized by the Council of Trent.
The bible was assembled by a committee, with many contemporary Christian texts being omitted. Additionally, the text of the original bibles have been, through out the years mistranslated and miscopied. Current copies of the texts, while they probably in a basic sense resemble the original, are not going to be an accurate representation of the original fourth century Bible. There are many more texts and books at the Vatican Library and established ministers of any major denomination can translate , if they are able, and interpret them for themselves. The church shares these manuscripts with other Christian leaders.Catholic means Universal and we all are one in Christ.

The Pope is the leader of 1.2 billion. The Vatican proclaims and mediates. Responsibility for the discipline of wayward clergy is at the local level. What are YOU doing to fix child abuse in America? The current political powers in the U.S, who have provided a third of Planned Parenthood's budget, want mandatory education for 4 year olds, including sex education, when toddlers need to be learning the ABC's and art and science and music. They are also there to benefit by learning from other children. Four year olds have not mastered how to feel safe if Mama or Daddy are out of sight for a minute. (something all mammalians have to learn)

So true, Greg. Only God and leaders of the Church of Rome know who many children, youth, and adults have been molested by Roman Catholic Priests, and yet so few were ever prosecuted and held accountable for their evil deeds. Surely, the Roman Catholic Church is the Antichrist and Beast as described in the book of Revelation.

The pope is evil. He speaks words of deception. Look at the history of thhe Catholic Church, the pope, and look at the 95 thesis of Luther. We will not bow down to you or worship you again, pope.

As I said on my post. Look in your own backyard. If the head of a Church of 1.2 billion is responsible for what happens locally, then the Presidents and Prime Ministers should be held at fault for all the child abuse that happens under their watches. America only has 300 million and the UK 62 million people. Should be a piece of cake for them to resolve. Step parents and live in partners are the most frequent offenders

Yes, lots of people believed that the Pope is sinless. He once like us but he choose to be Holy and we can be holy too. The Pope is telling the people he must not be treated higher that anybody else.
