This is an epic interview by Diane Sawyer with the couple from 1995 and it was broadcasted live. A lot of difficult questions and hard feelings - Especially difficult for Lisa Marie.
M.J. met Elvis Presley and his young daughter Lisa Marie in late 1974 while performing with the Jackson Five in Las Vegas. And 20 years later MJ married her ( to watch a footage from the wedding, go to 15:30)

That's actually what he wanted. There's civil and criminal lawsuits, anyone that's accused him, particularly from 1993, sought for the civil lawsuit (monetary compensation) and not criminal. His prosecutors, particularly Tom Sneddon still wanted to fight for a criminal trial but it didn't go through because there wasn't enough evidence to indict him. Also the money didn't come specifically from Michael Jackson himself, it came from his insurance company. His counsels defense to paying off the case out of court was that it would give away their defense for his criminal case (because his civil case was set to precede before his criminal trial) and that the prosecution could just get rid of anything that could be disproven. Apparently they tried postponing his civil lawsuit so that way it would be after the criminal trial but instead it only got delayed by a little bit, so they decided to settle out of court instead of giving up his defense. The lawsuit wasn't the only time Evan Chandler demanded money from Michael Jackson. He also requested funding for a movie prior to the settlement, but Michael Jackson refused. And eventually led to Evan saying Michael Jackson sa'd his son Jordan. Which note, Jordan Chandler legally emancipated himself from his parents after the lawsuit, was later attacked by his dad. Which led to Jordan Chandler filing a restraining order. He also refused to testify in the 2005 trial.

Nobody ever asked the question “if these allegations were true, WHY be happy with a pay off ?”. If it was my child that this supposedly happened to there absolutely NO WAY I’d accept a pay off. I’d want proper justice served. No amount of money can replace justice for a crime against a child.

I'm 40, I'm a mother, and I was in a relationship with my ex-husband for 18 years, and you know, what I saw between Michael and Lisa during this interview was not rehersed or fake. When there was chemistry and affection between my ex-husband and me, we ALWAYS used to hold hand when we walked, we always used to hug, and when there started to appear a crack in our relationship I did not want to hug him or hold his hand any more. I stopped holding his hand as we walked, and he never tried to take mine. He was OK with it. It was the beginning of the end of our relationship. If a couple is holding hands, no matter how old they are, it shows how close and loving they are, in fact the older people are, the more it shows their love to each other. What I saw here between Michael and Lisa was not planned or rehersed, it was very spontaneous and sincere. When Michael started singing, Lisa was slightly annoyed (you know, event if you love a person, it doesn't mean at all that the one you love cannot annoy you) because she said she did not want to sing with him, and Michael showed bunny's ears behind Lisa's head and started singing " Iwanna sing with you, do you wanna sing with me", which meant that he knew that probably Lisa did want to sing with him. BTW Lisa was a talented singer. She tried to punch him in a joke, which again shows how close they were, they were a real family, and that they both were very sweet and childlike. I'm happy that Michael had this wonderful woman in his life, and that they loved each other. So sad, they did not manage to save their love.

It's hard for me to believe that people were that into those personal questions. I believe that Michael was so used to people asking such intrusive questions that he just goes with it. I think Mike handled that beautifully. He was firm, concise, and had what people call "the ring of truth". Not emotional, overly defensive, or dishonest. Michael said it best himself when he put oprah in her place during their interview when she asked on live tv if he was a virgin. He said if he was able to talk to DaVinci or Michaelangelo, he would want to know things like what inspires them creatively. Not who they went out with last Saturday night.

I just stumbled into this story & I couldn't wrap my head around the fact that both of these beautiful, talented bright young people are no longer with us. So much to offer society, it seems so cruel that their fate should be death at a young age. I hope it serves as a lesson to not self medicate as Michael did. Lisa was clean & sober but her poor little heart just gave out. She had a few years with drug abuse too & who knows what damage was done to her heart. The reason they got divorced is because Lisa Marie didn’t want to have anymore children, and specifically was afraid to have kids with Michael because the media would never leave their kids alone. But Michael wanted children. So she left and he had Debbie Rowe have his children.

I watched a very recent interview with Priscilla Presley - she talked about Lisa marrying Michael and said he was absolutely obsessed with Elvis. Priscilla said he was desperate to get to the closest part of Elvis, and that was why he married Lisa. She didn’t believe he really wanted to be married, she was just a collector’s piece of one of his heroes.
