    Pretty fun puzzle. If you've done a lot of killer sudokus and sandwich sudokus, the logic is pretty straightforward, but it just takes time to figure out the possibilities.
    I never really got stuck which sometimes happens on even just classic sudokus, but going through the possible permutations can be a bear.
    I will say that I appreciate the work people put into translating the japanese app. I still prefer Mark and Simon's web app in that it's much more intuitive in removing numbers, and a lot of my time was spent finding out 1 number couldn't work in multiple boxes and then having to clear all the numbers that were possibilities and re-adding them minus the 1 number that couldn't work.
    Thanks for the puzzle!

  • @lakarto19
    @lakarto19 Před 4 lety +2

    Solved over several hours across two days (don't have an exact time due to it being over two days & no timer on the software)....... My first attempt I wasted because I completely misunderstood the rule in the middle column, thinking (wrongly) that it was the killer clue that couldn't have an overlapping digit with the rest of the cells. I'll be honest, that was a very clever puzzle but also really, really exhausting...... Just proud that I persisted.
    Another way to think of the logic surrounding the 23 and 27 cage in the upper left section is to think of them as sums.
    For example with the 27 cage, whatever value you put into r1c2 (let's say it's X), we can then say r4c2~r8c2 sum to 27-X. Together with the 1 and the 9 in column 2, We can then deduce that the eight cells in column 2 (excluding r2c2) sum to 37. Thus, r2c2 = 45 - 37 = 8.
    In the 23 cage, applying similar logic, we can say that the five cells r2c1 + r3c1 + r3c3 + r3c4 + r3c5 sum to 23, with r2c1 + r3c1 + r3c3 in box 1 summing to a MINimum of 15, since they can't use 1/2/3. This means r3c4 + r3c5 sums to a MAXimum of 8, meaning that r3c5 cannot be 7 or 8, and must be 5. Subsequently, r3c4 must be either 2 or 3.
    In the end, it's actually the same logic as in the video solve, but I personally found it easier to think of it this way.

    • @Tahgtahv
      @Tahgtahv Před 4 lety

    Guys, I need some help to understand Simon's logic at 19:30. I can't understand it and it's killing me. If R1C1 is 9, how is 1 ruled out from R1C8? Isn't it possible, if the "outie" at R1C9 is an 8?
    9 + (2+3+4+5+6+7=27) + 1 + 8 = 45
    Edit: nvm, got it. If R1C8 is an 1, then the sandwich clue on the same 35 cage is 34. If it is 34, the cage has an "outie" =1. And the cage also needs an 1, so you need 2 separate 1s, so C8 breaks. Jesus Christ, Simon. You're a beast.

    At 41:04 you try a 2 in r1c2, but that forces the sandwich clue to be 25, which uses a '2' digit already.

    At 17:19, you consider r1c8 being a 2 and thus the sandwich clue being 33. But the sandwich clue is inside a cage and thus cannot be 33 (11 or 22).

    A few problems with the software, including wiping out all of the numbers i'd got at one point - not a great loss, but I think I managed it in under two hours, and I was pleased with that. Took me far to long to get the significance of the centre column so my 19 positioning was a hard slog.

    Well I did it, but between the complicated rule set and the awkward user interface, I didn't enjoy it as much as I might have.
    Edit: The video was cool, though. The 27 clue (top left) provided another one of those moments that seems to arise so often in puzzles of this difficulty level. I go through the exact same logic as Simon to eliminate a 9 from R5C2 (assuming the 30 cage clue is 0), but takes so long and feels so arduous and uncertain that I'm insecure about it even being correct. Then Simon comes by, spots AND solves it in about 30 seconds flat, and in the process demonstrates the smooth path forward where all I'd seen was a crawl through tripwires and quicksand. It's very interesting how that works.

    Another great puzzle! But I have a doubt and not able to figure it out myself. at 29:03 simon says it has to be 0 in top of the column c3. but it can be a 1 and the remaining cells which are in green can contain 3, 4, 5 which makes total in that cage = (1+3+4+5 = 13). Am I missing something here.

    • @TheSarahskaninchen
      @TheSarahskaninchen Před 4 lety

      I think the grey cells can never contain the 1 because the grey cells are the sandwich clues. And you cannot sandwhich a 1 between the 1 and the 9 in the column, that is impossible because you would repeat the 1. Hope I'm explaining it in an understandable way
