    // WELCOME //
    New here?? I would love to get to know you better!
    I'll go first:
    I'm Kaela, a Homeschool Graduate turned Homeschool Momma. My husband & I have 3 girls, with another on the way.
    We are a Latino family, living our best life in a little 1930s fixer-upper in South Central Texas.
    Although we are a family of faith, we typically stick to secular resources in our homeschool.
    I love homeschooling, pretty books, dance breaks, and turning my humble abode into a home.
    Oh, and a lot of coffee!
    I hope you'll stay awhile 🧡

    Oh my goodness, using Core Knowledge as a supplement for independent learning is such a great idea! I can see this being a great place to find timeline events and people as well! I'm beginning to think of how family learning will look for us as our kiddos get older, and I think this is one great way to keep everyone in a period of history while differentiating for age!

    I always find myself reverting back to core knowledge when I want to test the waters with something else. It’s so good! We use CKLA content more than anything. We are in the kindergarten year btw. So I get our iPad and use the flip book as I read the read aloud. To beef it up we do go to the library to find lots of books on that particular unit. We are about to start the Native American unit and I plan on using the student book and inclusive picture books from the library. It’s such a terrific resource! ❤

    We started CK in January and really enjoy it. I have a preschooler and first grader and we started with kindergarten CKLA knowledge strand, CKHG and are currently doing our first CKSci. We do all of those together and my kids really enjoy it! The Science has been a little more work, but it our first unit.

    This was an amazing video! One of the best I’ve seen explaining core knowledge especially using the new website !

    I really appreciate your video on breaking down Core Knowledge. I've been looking at it for a couple of years, but couldn't wrap my mind around the teacher guides. I'm thinking of switching over to it for quite a few things, but my printer is the worst. Also, the Language Arts materials for 1st and 2nd grades are not available in the website bookstore at all, which is odd.

      That is odd! Have you considered using it digitally? It works quite well on a tablet

    Hi Kaela! I was wondering if you’ve seen the new Guest Hollow American History - there’s now a Jr and they’re getting ready to release a “little kids” version, I remembered that they mentioned using some Core Knowledge readers!

      I've seen it, but I haven't used it or taken a thorough look. We're not at the point where I'm looking for American History resources, at least not yet ☺️

    We used the CKLA listening and learning for 3/4 of the year and skills 1/2 of this year. It’s hard to implement if you’re child has great comprehension but struggles with reading/writing. I think the easiest to implement is the CKHG. I couldn’t handle the science….to teacher intense imo

    I have a 5 and 6 yr old. They both read well and know all the phonic rules for reading. Do you think I could just use the 1st grade level for both kiddos (listening and learning strand LA) I want to mainly use that strand for the subjects the units cover. Hope that makes sense. I plan on having them use the “right” grade level for the skills strand.

      Yes, I think you can totally make that plan work!
