About us,
We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.
The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.
Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.
Please subscribe and follow our families journey, with the up’s and down’s in moving from the UK and Escape to rural France to restore this beautiful building to its former glory.

Everyone should have a mam like Tracy. Mams just over there cementing, mams just over there stripping the lamp posts. Mams just over there driving the tractor. Love it 😂😂
Haha. She’s brilliant 🥰
I wanted bricks moved in my yard. Son got his Kanga loaded the bucket with bricks then said, "This is how you drive it". Then left me to it😂
Your mum is the backbone of this chateau.
She is! Thanks Audrey 🥰
It would look so pretty if Tracy had shutters and window boxes on her cottage in the future.
I was just thinking that. Some shutters and window boxes filled with red geraniums and blue flowers. I’ve seen it done and the effect is amazing.
Thank you :) we will in time 🥰🥰
I agree, she has earned her own mini chateau
It would be a great surprise to do this when she’s out of town. I bet Jonathan could even help build the window boxes! She deserves a big surprise.
@@LindaDavis-hi2un Shhh, dont let her read this 🤭
Tracey really is an amazing lady. She's an inspiration to us all!!!! Good job you guys!
She’s Ana amazing lady 🥰
I hope you boys realize what a gem you have for a mother. That's all I'm going to say.😊
We do! 🥰 Thank you 🙏 ☺️
And grandmother too 😊
I can just imagine that if the chateau had a voice she would squee with glee at all the renovations, remodeling etc., you are doing. Just magnificent.
Thanks Paul 🥰🥰🥰
Geraniums are great in hot spots. Red and white are beautiful together. Your mom is a fantastic and wonderful woman.
Thank you so much! ☺️
This woman works like a horse. But all the time she smiles.
She’s amazing 🥰
Next year get some bee hives!! Pro tomato tip: take off all but the top set of leaves and bury the plant up to those leaves. You'll get a stronger plant for more fruit. 😎
I was going to suggested that 😊
It makes for a strong & sturdy plant!
Bury that tomato deep right up to the leaves.
The lights are going to look so great! Ash was certainly in his happy place in the garden😃
Always am Kathy 🥰🥰
A trailing lavender. You need drought tolerant plants, free draining soil.
The lamposts are lovely 😊
Yes! Thank you! ☺️
And portulaca, takes heat, flowers, low water, trails and/or maybe some sort of grasses for height in middle of planters or lavender. Hard to judge height/width/depth of planters.
Can’t wait for the tower to get a scrub like the walls and the whole building will be glowing!
You listed many plants. Can you imagine what it was like in the way back. Having gardens to feed everyone at the Chateau. Including staff. From their gardens!! And having to store it all. For year round useage. Making even the breads. For everyone. And the storing of the supplies. Cakes pastries fruits vegetables. They had to be pretty self sufficient. Wines! Flowers for the rooms all year. And the hunting to be done!😊
Lord Patrick is always up for a dig. ❤ Bless him. 🐕
Always 😂 thank you 🥰
Lavender would look amazing in your pots and they love full blazing sun 🥰
Thanks Jasmine 🥰
When I think of France I think of lavender 😊
Your channel is so satisfying because you finish what you start without drama! Kudos to everyone working so hard to make your dreams come true!
🥰🥰🥰🥰
Thank you so much!! ☺️
I agree.
I can’t wait for you guys to finish washing the front of the chateau, but every job that gets done is worth watching.👍🏻🇨🇦🐉👩🏼⚖️
Lavender and trailing rosemary. The scents would be a lovely welcome and they need very little maintenance.
Thank you 🙏 ☺️
Lantanas like full sun as well, and as they grow, they'll hang over nicely.
Thank you 🙏 ☺️
And they attract butterflies!
Some plant suggestions. Purple salvia in the center for height. Red geraniums on the outer edge with 3 asparagus plants in-between the geraniums as a trailer to hang down. All are good heat tolerant plants. I live in Texas. It gets hot here. But no matter what kind of growing season you have in France, you have to water when needed, feed on a regular basis, and make sure there is good drainage. The lanterns will look great because y'all are workin' on them. Just a touch of Texas there.❤
I'm always amazed at the skills of Mom.
Thank you 🙏 ☺️
Love seeing how excited Ash was about everything growing. Can't wait to see new lights.
Haha. I love being outside 🥰🥰
Wonderful seeing the family tackle so many projects. I’m glad Terry filmed the details of the lamps, they are magnificent, albeit a pain to strip. Tracy is being her amazing self, as always and Ash is absolutely gleeful with planting the veggies. Glad you had a beautiful day to work in!
Ash, if you'll break up the roots of those plants before putting them in the ground, they'll grow better. They get rootbound in those little containers they sell them in, wrapping around the edges of them. If you don't free them from that growth pattern before you put them in the ground, they'll continue wrapping around the plant and it won't thrive. But if you loosen them, they can grow outward from the base of the plant to get more nutrients!
Mum is worth her weight in pure gold!!! Thanks for sharing to all of you, this is a lovely channel!
Love and respect from Canada
❤️🇨🇦❤️🇨🇦❤️🇨🇦
Thanks so much. She is 🥰
I love how Patrick is waiting patiently next to Terry.
Tracy is a warrior.
The lamp posts are gorgeous! You guys and gal are the hardest working people on CZcams.
Lovely to be able to work outside in the sun again :-)
It really is! Thank you 🙏 ☺️
In ohio, we are having such a soggy spring. I just want to be able to get outside. ugh
Your mom is such a wonderful woman and such a hard worker too. She puts in as much as you guys do.
She’s an amazing lady! 🥰🥰
Tracy is a Mum of all trades, there's nothing she can't do. What a huge credit to the Mums of the World.
Ash, I dreamed of carriages coming up the drive to the gates delivering guests to a ball. The tower wasn't there instead a grand staircase was lit with torches of fire. An orchestra played and coachmen looked down on the staff. The horses were watered by the tap. people walked the grounds and gardens.
That sounds amazing!
Sweet dreams 🥰🥰
That is true and most likely occurred many many times in history!
My gods. Tracey works so hard. Someone get that woman a large glass of wine! 🍷
She does! She’s amazing 🥰
Tracy can put her hand to anything. Alot of hard work with them lampposts but well worth it ❤
She can! Thank you 🙏 😊
Those antique lights are a piece of torturous work! But you tackled them. Amazing! Well done both of you 💕👏💕👏💕. And Ash, what a joy to see you in the sunshine, producing vegetables and a variety of strawberries. Gardening, though hard work, does generate an inner happiness and satisfaction that’s hard to explain. xxxx love to you all Alex
Thanks so much! 😊 🥰
The entire lighting outside sounds gorgeous once completed. Cant wait for the fountains!!!😊
Thanks Jo 🥰🥰
Avenue of flowering cherry would look wonderful leading up to the house.
Azaleas would be a very colourful addition to the drive
Tracey is Wonder Woman, there is nothing she can’t do, You three boys/ men are so lucky to have herxxxxxxx
I love the way Patrick is always there to help digging.
LOL, You don’t own a dachshund…….Patrick would be assuming that Terry, Ash and Tracy are there to assist him 😂
Hello Darlings
Tracy you are a very special lady❤
Lots of hugs to all 🐶❤️🙏🏻❤️
Thanks so much Arpi 🥰🥰
Terry: Before you ask, no, we're not going to dig up the cobblestone path.
Everyone else: Yet!
That damn dog is always digging! I love Patrick. He reminds me of my doxie, Killer, when I was a kid. Keep giving him lots of love and sunshine!
He loves being outside with us in the summer 🥰
Lavender is drought resistant and loves full sun and is beautiful in flower.❤
p.s. please, please add uncovering the wonderful cobbled path you have discovered to the end of your long list of jobs to do (maybe when you have finished the Chateau ) 🤞👍🙂
Haha. Will do 🥰
I have been watching you guys for several years now. Tracy is the most incredible woman! Is there anything she cannot do?
The gardens are looking really good! I am so glad that you finally are having some nice weather!😊
Thank you! 😊
I love the little gardening bit. Can't wait to see how the containers do.
I’ll keep you updated Dodi 🥰🥰
I’ll keep you updated Dodi 🥰🥰
When you get plants out of little pots ,trussels the roots a little before planting 😊@chateaudelalacelle
I can't wait to see the fencing and awnings all cleaned up and painted. It's glorious now, it will be magnificent when all finished. You guys work so hard. I'm not rushing you, just fantasizing about the future.
Thank you 🙏 😊
A few plant ideas for your front gate planters: consider adding colorful plants, with some height, in the center, and then around the perineter viney plants. A couple of good, sun hardy perennials are vincas and salvias. As for leafy vine plants, for the perimeter, you might try sweet potato vines.
I can't wait to see your lamp posts and planters when they are finished!
Can't wait to see those beautiful lights in place at the entry. Tracy is a 'Jill of all trades', she can turn her hands to anything, well done Tracy xx
Beautiful work as usual and your mom reminds me of myself.. I’m 80 now but still push my body to do things and keep active and creative
Glad to see the weather is cooperating. Great job .
Thanks 👍
Geraniums are great plants for a spot like that
I have to say, well done on your extensive restoration work on your Chateau, I can see how much hard work you have all put into getting it just right without taking shortcuts👍👏👌
Ash, pick off the bottom leaves on the tomato plants. You don’t want any leaves touhing the soil. Also, plant basil inbetween the tomatoes to keep the bugs away. Plus you’ll have a great crop of basil for your Italian cuisine. You can thank me in the late summer.
Ooo! Get some Buddleja bushes for the urns! They come in a variety of colors, and they attract butterflies with their pollen.
You could try Lantana in your urns. They love blazing sun.
Love how you repurpose everything. It gives the property so much charm.
Do you have space, along the wall in the vegetable garden, to plant espalier trees? ( apple, pear)
We have lots of them already. We’re going to plant lots more in the front fields 🥰🥰
Terry your lamp post are beautiful with the touch of gold just cuts the white down nice. Will be nice when they are put up . And Patrick so cute helping ash treasure hunting. Thanks for sharing 👍
Don’t forget to plant marigolds, lavender, basil, and other herbs among your garden beds to prevent various pests.
Absolutely. Dill too! 🥰
Tracy is wonder woman!!! There's nothing she can't do. The lamppost are going to look stunning. Get ash to spray paint then to ensure you can still see all the beautiful details on the lamppost. Thanks for the awesome content. The chateau is looking amazing. Love from Cape Town South Africa 🇿🇦 ❤️
Hydrangeas or Lavender would look lovely in those pots at the gate. It's coming along beautifully! Those lamp posts are really going to look nice!
Terry and mom , love that you’re not, quitters! Keep up the good work on the lights🇨🇦🇨🇦
Thanks 👍
Proven Winners, has a lavender, Sweet Romance, that is very hardy and shapes perfectly for containers. I find their plants to be exceptional and they outperform many others. They also have a Russian sage that would look beautiful in your garden. These plants propagate well also.
I'm about the same age as your mother and she amazes me. You surely were blessed when God passed out mamas.❤
I would maybe invest in a sand blasting machine to do all the iron work around the chateau. It would save a lot of time and would get the metal back to bare metal as well as removing the rust.
Geraniums should be a satisfactory and easy choice.
Terry,
You really should be wearing sun shades! 😂🎉🎉
Thank you
The urns at the entrance should have some water retention pellets mixed in with the soil. The pellets are "organic" being made from by products of corn. The tiny "pellet" swells up 3 or 4 times it's original size when it's wet. As the soil dries out the water that is stored in the pellet releases into the soil.
The large pots I had to water daily now are watered every third day. The pots are in FULL SUN , last summer many days over 90F / 33C, petunias and geraniums did excellent because the roots always could get water.
Nice bright red geraniums with spike plant in middle for height and some Ivy vines for hanging and crawling.
What a wonderful project this amazing family is tackling. I can personally verify this because yesterday my wife and I dropped in for a quick visit. The chateau is amazing as are Terry, Ash and Tracy. Even Patrick led us on a guided tour. Thank you all so much. Terry, when you have your formal garden plan arranged do let me know. The photos are great and I would love to post one or two. Let me know how. Patrick
Petunias should work unless it's really windy - just keep the soil really sandy and easily drained. Petunias are great with heat, sun and drought but are very susceptible to root rot and wind damage.
I love the suggestions of geraniums as they are very hardy even in wind. There are also STUNNING decorative grasses that you could try, so just ask some local gardeners and hopefully you'll be pointed right.
I just love everything you do 🤗 you never disappoint us 🥰🥰
Thank you so much! 🥰
You do everything so well, with such patience and forethought, it will last for years to come. You just blow me away!
I wish I could have Tracy’s energy
Love her ❤
Those black pot things in the garden are super cool! The squirrels would tear them up in my garden.. they took out my bat box and the little bee house things I had
FYI,,,,when planting tomato plants, break off the bottom branches & bury the whole root & stem. As the plants grow, nip off the suckers, & you will get a super healthy extra harvest of tomatoes....You never cease to amaze with all your team effort & hard work, Carry on !
Yes
Those urns could be high maintenance depending on the weather. I would have lots of pots that fit perfectly in the urns , grow them out lush elsewhere then rotate them consistently.
For busy hot summer some of the small rosette succulents can trail when established and are unbelievably tough.
Thank you 🙏 😊
I'm really curious to see how the lettuce does in those black bowling balls. At least in the US, lettuce is a cool weather plant, and black absorbs all the light (heat) that hits it. Maybe the pots are big enough that the soil won't burn the roots. I guess we'll see!
Bougainvillea could be gorgeous there, if the pots are big enough (I think they are). You can pick a striking, deep color (they come in all sorts), and though a climber, it will cascade beautifully down those posts since there isn't anything to climb up. If a luxuriant, color-saturated plant is something you're after, that's the ticket!
Flowers: Geranium, a lot of colors, and resistent. 😍
Geraniums will be able to take the heat and you can get trailing ones 😊
Thank you 🙏 ☺️
I just bought fan flowers they are Australian and love sun I am zone 9. Also called scaveola. Very beautiful come in pink purple or white I bought purple. I have pink whit and purple flowers here.
8” two tone marigolds. They can take the sun and heat. Dracena spikes in the centre. Lamps are going to be stunning. Great strip job
23:00 your mom is amazing the vegetables garden will be absolutely great Ash
Terry it's going to look magnificent
Great job done guys
Johann
South Africa
❤❤❤😂😊😂❤❤❤
She really is a wonder-woman !
your mama is amazing... you two are so cute working together...its lovely
Thank you so much! ☺️
There seems to be nothing you won't try or be able to tackle., an amazing family! Michael
Geraniums, ivy and a spiky accent plant. in the middle. They all love sun.
No ivy 😂😂😂 ever 😂😂
@@chateaudelalacelle Understood. 😆 OK, something that hangs down.
Awww, come one, dig up the cobblestone path! LOL
Everyone outside I know you’re happy to see the sunshine
Always 🥰🥰
Supermam no end to this Lady's talents.... god nice to see some sunshine
It is! Thanks Eddy 🥰
Mum does so much work!
And HARD work!
Use the stripper on the light fixtures with a wire brush. It’ll be easier to get into the nooks and crannies.
Make sure to wear gloves to protect your hands not only from the stripper but from the paint scraper!
Coarse steel wool works well, too!
Red trailing geraniums, would look great and they are sun loving
Agave plants look like the top of a pineapple and grow to fit the pot they are in. Probably wouldn't survive your winters, but they would look nice in your urns
So many exciting things going on at the Chateau. I hope you guys are all taking care of yourselves 💕
Terry make sure the drain holes are open in the bottom of the pots first. Trailing Vinca can take the heat and sun. They come in a variety of colors and would drape over the sides of the pots.
It will look fantastic when done.
Camellias would be nice in those garden beds where the petunias failed, they are shrubs and keep their glossy green leaves all year and flower abundantly. You would probably prune them once a year to keep them at somewhere between 1 and 2 metres in height.
In terms of plants to plant in your driveway containers, you could try geraniums (there are many different varieties, some much more able to cope with dryer conditions and more direct sunlight for longer hours per day) or even more hardy, a succulent or even cactus that flower profusely over a long period - you would probably still need to help them when it hasn't rained for a while. In terms of the containers becoming water logged, you may wish to try drilling a few holes at the base of the containers, to allow the water to drain out and then lining them with a very fine mesh with a bit of gravel above it and then the soil.
There's not much in this video you say. I disagree. You all got a lot done. Ash with the gardening, and you and Tracy are doing the cement and paint scraping. The lights will look beautiful. Awesome work, guys. Have a great weekend. ❤
Bougainvillea or Geraniums might work well in the flower pots....
Thank you 🙏 ☺️
