I love this series but honestly I've always been semi-troubled by the fact that the host's parents named him ReportOfTheWeek. While it's a unique and commanding name, I can't imagine growing up through school with that name on your report card.

One of the things I love about ROTW is the ratings. I try to guess what Review Brah will give it, based on his commentary. I thought this sandwich might be as high as a 6, but in his infinite wisdom, he gives it a 4.9, which is exactly what it should have been. The Master has spoken.

The Ch'king was really good, among the best fast food chicken sandwiches available. Then they retire it and replace it with a greasy, soggy, flavorless mess. So disappointing.
Facts
They did it because the parent company also owns Popeyes and they didn’t want to take business away from them. Plus the ch’king was outshining the burgers and since it’s “Burger King” they couldn’t have that either.

I totally agree. I really loved the ch'king. I was hoping this new chicken sandwich would be good, but it was straight trash. I will never buy it again.
The problem with the sandwich is it was fried in oil that was almost out of it's service life.
All fryer oils have a use lifespan before they must be changed.
To extend that life, the bins these oils are in must cleaned of the breading that falls off the fried food every night and that cakes at the bottom of the bin.
McDonald's , for a while , used a plastic (polymer) stabilized fryer oil.
They could do this because the plastic supposedly passes through the human digestion system and is not absorbed.
So the US govt let them do that.
I could taste the polymer in the fries so I stopped going there for a long time.
They changed their fryer oil apparently because that taste is no longer in the fries.
The symptoms of dead frying oil is this.
Excessively dark breading.
Breading that is soaked instead of crispy.
Breading that the color is uneven- light and then with soggy dark spots in it.
A burnt smell coming from the surface of the breaded product.
Uneven cooking on the inside of the product.
A fried product that has little taste.
It is also extremely important that once the fryer oil is brought up to operating temperature, that it is kept there to fully cook the next product dipped in it.
This requirement greatly lessens the lifespan of the oil.
New fryer oil is very expensive
But maintaining the oil, knocking off any excess breading before you put the product in the oil and keeping a good record of when the oil was put in the fryer and watching the temps all makes for a long lasting fryer oil that you can put out a good product with and still make a profit.
Nothing is better then going to a restaurant where brand new oil was just put in the fryer.
Food fried in fresh oil is truly delicious.

@@aleisterlilywhite1109 Sounds like people generally were allowed to serve food cooked in oil that contained polymers. I guess the practice stopped though. Eating some plastics isn't really harmful as weird as that sounds, since they mostly pass through your body benignly. Even pieces of peeling up Teflon will safely pass through. The real evil of plastic is in its production which pollutes pretty much all waterways. Not that we even have time anymore to prevent that...
My family owns and operates a pizzeria. we haven’t changed the fryer oil in 35 years. it’s a myth that the oil needs to be changed at all.

@@Avery11010 From Kabetogama lake in MN to south Texas. It's actually a 24 hr drive but we stopped a lot to stretch our legs and spent 7 hours sleeping in the back of our rental. Not 36 hrs of straight driving but 36 hrs of being cooped up in the rental.
Yes definitely! I have listened to most of the podcasts while I’m either driving, working, or just doing stuff around the house. I love them! The dry humor cracks me up & then sometimes it’s like he’s reading my mind… 😳😲 otherwise it just makes me think… it’s like a wonder drug, it calms me down & my family thinks I’m nuts! 😂😂😂😂
I ordered this last week, my wife ordered the spicy version. Mine was flat and borderline dry, 50/50 chicken/breading. My wife's sandwich was thick and juicy, 80/20 chicken/breading. I was expecting a rebranded Ch'King and all I got was immeasurable disappointment.
When I get a disappointing burger, it destroys my will to live. Especially if it cost $5.50.
And a ruined day?

@@gustavosilveira4549 I really commiserate. Interestingly there is a thing called the "Big Mac index" to show what the purchasing power( inflation) is within a country. They assume that a Big Mac costs about the same to produce anywhere - but how much does it cost in local currency based on average wages? It's a real thing that economists look at.

I quite enjoyed the Ch'King while Burger King offered it. I don't know if I'd call it the best chicken sandwich I've ever had, but I would put it in the top three. So this sandwich seemed like an attempt by the company to cut costs, and to me it tasted like it, too. Well deserving of a "meh" rating. If only it was priced appropriately.
This one does suck. Ch’king was way better.
Ch'King was either great or very not great depending on your luck with your visit from my experience.

I usually can't watch food reviews because I can't stand the sound of the person eating. No matter the food Reviewbrah always eats it with as much class as possible. That's something I really appreciate, and this is the only food review channel I watch.

Back in the day their charbroiled chicken sandwich was amazing. Upgrading their charbroiled could have been an opportunity to pierce through the breaded chicken madness.

I've had good chicken sandwiches from them before, this looks a lot like the one I had before that was actually good. Mine also had bacon and cheese on it.
The crispy chicken of before was actually really good. I did not like the Ch'King.
I actually prefer Burger King over McDonald's. They just seem low-key superior in most ways. I can't remember the last time I ate a Big Mac or Quarter Pounder and thought to myself "This burger is delicious!". The food just tastes so fake that it almost makes me sick.

I agree I loved the spicy ch'king but I think due to prices BK had to redo the sandwich because they were going to shrink the size of the chicken. The ch'king chicken was huge.

the Chking was my favorite. A bit expensive for fast food, but boy was it good. It also doesn't help that the chking was like SO many calories. It's hard to justify it, but damn....

I went there about 2 weeks ago and paid almost $10 for a Royal Spicy Chicken Sandwich with a somewhat small, cold piece of chicken with cold buns. It might have been better when it was warm but I would never know.
Just warm it up a few seconds in the microwave

I loved the Spicy Ch'king. It was simple, delicious and the price was reasonable. Next thing I know, they replaced it with a messy, chopped lettuce disappointment. Epic fail BK. You done me wrong.
Yeah I remember when it happened. September 2021, so disappointing. It was my favorite sandwich ever, and it was really the only reason I ever went to Burger King chains

Having worked at BK when we switched to the Ch'king chicken, and having tried the "new" sandwich...They just brought back what they had before the Ch'king. Nothing more, nothing less.
I loved the ChiKing sandwich and am sad to see it be replaced with facsimile of BK’s previous “premium” chicken sandwich. I understand that employees hated making the ChiKing and it often had inconsistencies due to it being made fresh to order. My biggest complaint with the “new” Royal sandwich other than its mediocre flavor is you don’t have an option to purchase a less expensive ($4.99) option without the lettuce and tomatoes as you did with the ChiKing. Some of us are not a fan of paying more for a sandwich for added lettuce and tomatoes which is something we don’t want and will have removed.
yeah just from how he describes the flavor of this, it sounded exactly like the chicken sandwiches BK had before trying the "ch'king"
I ALWAYS say that whenever a place puts out a new item to get an extra amount of whatever the sauce is that's supposed to come with it because they NEVER put enough sauce on it (perhaps due to lack of experience making it or perhaps due to limited supply of the "new sauce."

The spicy version is honestly incredible… went to try the regular one, and was given a spicy one incorrectly and loved it, so delicious and had tons of flavor

I had the Wingstop sandwiches last week. The plain and the hickory bbq. They're really good. They aren't as good as popeyes, but they aren't trying to be. They're also cheap as hell. Definitely worth eating.

It's funny that I was never the type of person that cares about food reviews from other people, I figure everyone has their likes and dislikes. Reviewbrah is different though, he gives a non personalized type of review and I like that.

The Ch’king while incredibly inconsistent in quality, was my favorite chicken sandwich. I’m sad they returned to just another frozen chicken patty. I’ll have to try it next time I go, but it doesn’t look like there’s nearly as much chicken so that sucks
edit: I actually went and tried the new chicken sandwich king this afternoon. It was alright and overall tasted pretty similar besides the sauce. I didn’t like the sauce as much as the Ch’king “signature savory sauce” and the chicken is understandably dryer cause there’s just less chicken. Considering it’s a frozen paddy, that might mean the quality might be more consistent than the hand-breaded in the store type fillets the old chicken sandwich used.
If the Ch’king on a good day is a 7.5-8 and a 1-4.5 on a bad day, the new chicken sandwich king is a 6 consistently.
The spicy ch’king one was good. This chicken sandwich sucks, I don’t like it.

I work there unfortunately. The last chicken sandwich was hand breaded which sounds better but when the store is busy you're getting a crap sandwich. These new ones are less processed so much better.

Call me strange but I have an affinity for the Burger King chicken jr sandwich. Yes, the value menu one. It has a particularly nice flavor with the lettuce and mayo all together. Kinda like the Mcchicken having its own very specific special chicken sandwich flavor. Idk if it's the mayo, the chicken patty, or what, but each place has its own distinct good value chicken sandwich flavor. Those are the only two good sub-2 dollar chicken sandwiches I've had. Everywhere else they are just generic and bad. If you pay 6 bucks you can get a good chicken sandwich at chic fil a

because you can only get it in Australia, super juicy chicken, generous portion, and comes to you so crispy and fresh that if you tried to eat it immediately you'd burn your mouth.

I felt the Ch'King was an upper tier chicken sandwich, so I'm surprised they got rid of it so quickly. Maybe with the similarities to popeyes and being owned by the same company, they wanted to make it a little different.
I had the bacon Swiss chicken Royale yesterday, and it was pretty good, but you shouldn't have to dress a chicken sandwich up with bacon and cheese to make it passable.

Totally agree, when I was a kid I loved McDonald's, now the only thing I can eat from there without feeling horrible after is the two cheeseburger meal. Everything else they serve is gut rot. Whopper is the best fast food burger imo.

I’ve been watching for about 5 years and I can say that he has NEVER changed. Not even in appearance. Everything I loved about him remains the same as I remember it
The best Burger King Chicken Sandwich WAS the Original BK Broiler. Must be the Original version. They got cheap and made the sandwich smaller AND changed the recipe (cheapskates) and it sucked. That was the best fast food chicken sandwich of all time in my opinion.
When he first showed the fillet you could see the oilyness in the breading. The cooking oil temperature was to cold. I would say.

I did get one for lunch to try it, got it with my “royal points” through the app… it wasn’t bad, but I totally agree. The chicken was good, but with the first bite I noticed the “Burger King” grease that I’m not too fond of… it might be old or something….

Burger King is likely the least consistent chain besides Taco Bell. For that reason I'm not surprised that the Burger King near me is quite good, so I never get the horrid experience people talk about. Of course that's a good thing, but I do wonder if my chain is truly a better example, or if my taste is way off. Regardless, I'm glad they're putting out at least one item everyone* likes. And yes, I consider a 4.9 reasonably good for Burger King. I can't expect much more.
Looks pretty good for Burger King . I still maintain that eating them at the restaurant , as fresh out of the fryer , or off the grill is a much more fair assessment as to their quality .
I'd say slightly cold, in a bag at home or in a car is a more realistic assessment.

I had a really weird experience with Burger King last few days. I usually don't eat at Burger King because I feel like the sandwiches are small and expensive. I live in a poor area in my city and I went to visit a friend in the rich area. There was a Burger King there and the sandwiches were GINORMOUS, GINAMENASAURUS. Like huh?
I think your usual is the version that's out of the ordinary. Normally Burger King is huge.

The main issue is most Burger Kings are franchises so there is a lot of inconsistencies on cleanliness, product quality, where they are being supplied the product from. Terrible business model as you are always playing roulette when going to a fast food joint that franchises.

Whenever we get an episode that is just a bit lackluster in results, when the item is neither astounding nor the absolute worst, I like to press my face close to the screen and go sort of cross-eyed so that I can see two of him and it always makes things a lot better.
STAY HOME AND COOK - my meal is a can of roast beef $3.70 , can of carrots .80 cents , can of peas .80 cents and a cup of rice ,takes less time than going through a drive through window , 20 minutes , feeds 4 , as much as the sandwich , SCREW THEM !

Odd coincidence, that sandwich is what I ate for dinner last night and I have to agree with you completely ( not that anyone cares). I found it greasy, salty, and for me the tomatoes/lettuce were mushy and completely flavorless, They just added moisture to an already to greasy sandwich. For clarity purposes I'd like to say that I do enjoy a Whopper from time to time and I'll admit the chicken fries are a guilty pleasure of mine.. but, as far as chicken sandwich goes, completely middle of the road. You can get the the same quality from any fast food joint. I will say I did like the "Royal"sauce, but it does have a sour hint to it then I'm not completely confident in. But as always Brah, your review is on point. Glad I found you.
Honestly if it has lettuce and tomato that's an automatic win for me I don't just want chicken and bread with 2 pickles 😅
Yeah, I tried KFC's chicken sandwich for the first about a week ago. I asked what was on it and they said exactly what you said. I told them to add lettuce and tomato. They replied, "We don't have lettuce or tomato." I went there after going to Popeye's and waiting for 10 minutes to order with only one person ahead of me and that's when I noticed they had piles of chicken already cooked. I left without ordering and went to KFC. Didn't see the piles of cooked chicken but the fillet I got was over-cooked, dry and stringy. And no lettuce or tomato. I lost that day, but I will return to do battle again.
Haha ya idk something about crispy chicken with cruchy lettuce, a good sweet tomato and a some mayo is a perfect sandwich in my book. I understand Nashville hot chicken is just bread and pickle but I'd still add the above 😋.
Me personally i dont like lettuce on burgers or sandwiches because alot of places always tend to have soggy lettuce on them,but if its lettuce that goes beyond the chicken sandwich bun then i know its gonna be atleast crunchy and good

I love the new BBQ Bacon Cheese Royal Crispy chicken, but nothing NOTHING compares to the Tendercrisp the first time it came through in the early 2ks. i believe royal sauce is parmesan peppercorn ranch

Why does Burger King keep their original chicken sandwich on the menu and keep trying all these other types of chicken sandwiches? I think it's because it's one of the best chicken sandwiches you can get at a fast food place and has been for years and it sells.
Their original chicken sandwich is like crack seriously it's SO good. Is it the best chicken sandwich in the world, no, but if you know what you're getting into before you order it man, does it hit the spot.
There was never anything wrong with the spicy chicken sandwich. It was actually the best fast food chicken sandwich. Wish they would bring that back instead of whatever this is

I had the ch'king when they offered it and I have to say, I think out of the craze over chicken sandwiches, it was the best one. Popeyes was good but I didn't love it. This looks more akin to the spicy chicken sandwich from wendys. Seems kinda boring.
Everything I've ever tried at Burger King. There's nothing I want to ever try again 🤣. In-N-Out Burger is the only fast food I really enjoy going back too! Great job reviewbrah!!
So, not a big change from the Ch'King, apparently. I had the Spicy Ch'King a few times, and it was okay. Could've used more spice and a little more flavor in the spicy sauce, but not bad. I would describe the now-discontinued Spicy Ch'King as "serviceable."
Had this a few days ago much better than the Ch'king was, but isn't this just the same chicken sandwich they used to have before the Ch'king? Think i will get it with mayo and a regular bun instead next time.
