I want to say I learned something valuable today
alas my murdered remains are incapable of learning anything
trusted you-I should have never trusted you
in fact I never did
what’s the use, I’m not complaining
I’m not anything
is this what’s supposed to happen when you’re only trying to do right in this wicked world?
probably I should already know this
probably I should graciously accept what I get
most people wouldn’t hang the corpses up for review
dearest, I can only hope most people are nothing like you
nervous tics that I pretended not to see
that’s how I was brought up
warning signs: death metal albums
hang in there baby poster
is this how you thank somebody for their selfless loyalty
is this what you do?
pardon me for failing to grasp how this works
excuse my breathtaking ignorance
is this what’s supposed to happen when you’re only trying to do right in this wicked world?
probably I should already know this
probably I should graciously accept what I get

I love how this song literally opens with the narrator saying "I really should have learned something from being in a relationship with an abusive axe murderer, but unfortunately I have not learned anything because he has killed me." Man, Linnell's lyrics. So twisted.
Interesting that the lyrics make no reference to gender. While the music video interprets "Mrs. Bluebeard" as a gender-swapped version of the classic folk figure, a listener to the song could easily take the title as referring to the murdered spouse, rather than the murderous spouse.
It literally doesn't tho
I love the dragging, pulling piano, peeking synth, haunting bass and attacking drums... Yup, it's my new favourite Christmas song.
It’s not a Christmas song
@@TierosIsBetter Um, the song was uploaded on Christmas Eve, that's why I said it was my new favourite Christmas song.
Diehard be like
This song is like a trick question on a time signature quiz
Lol accurate.
Lol
What's the time signature?
Good old 4/4 @@stevie2.040
Mighty Be the Giants.
At 1:22, you can see the portraits of her ex-husbands, they're even the same color as the ghosts.
2:14 when the piano part switches back to the first part while still under the guitar solo, it's just gorgeous i love it i love it i love it.
On behalf of TMBG fans everywhere, thank you John and John for restoring my faith that good music continues to still be made in 2018
Not anymore
@@johnfraire6931 Here's to 2019 TMBG
Who else realized that the other 6 ghosts were Ms. Bluebeard's former spouses
mrs. bluebeard would also refer to the wives in the traditional version of the tale.
The ghosts are so adorable with each other!
By far one of my favorite songs from I Like Fun, which is saying something because there isn't a single bad track on that album.
Look, I'm sorry if I Like Fun made your kids cry, but at least They Might Be Giants can still surprise. What a great album.
I think this woman is metaphor of the society. This song seems to explore themes of betrayal, disappointment, and bewilderment over unmet expectations in human relationships. The author expresses a feeling of confusion and disillusionment with someone he trusted, but who betrayed or disappointed him. It questions social norms and expectations toward loyalty and gratitude, wondering if this is how relationships are supposed to work. The song also seems to reflect on the difficulty of navigating a difficult and unfair world while trying to do good.
I just want to say that what you guys do is incredible; to make such high quality, interesting music pretty much every week is something no other artist does. Thank you for helping me get through 2018 and I think we're all going to miss Dial-a-Song next year.
Amen to that!!!
shotouts to that grenade at 2:36. That sync was good.
Man, absolutely no regrets joining the IFC this year. Tons of great Dial-A-Song content, I Like Fun and Escape Team were excellent (The Poisonessness is my jam), got a fantastic live album too. Happy holidays, TMBG and fellow fans!
this video is age restricted, which has completely broken the dial a song website lol
Yeah.
“ whats the use am not complaining am not... anything ” is such a good line
Usually I listen to a song over and over until I get sick of it but for some reason this song I can't get tired of
Real 😎
It's that John Linnell keyboard composition and morbid lyricism magic.
absolutely genius. gives me chills every time.
@@corey-bird3489 for sure! that one's pretty awesome too.
How did I miss this absolute banger of a music video?????
I love this video art style so much and this is my first time seeing it since it got age restricted, best thing about turning 18
This really didn’t need to be age-restricted, you should’ve just changed you’re age to 18 before you turned 18 like I did.
@@battleforkrabisland7405 it says it was requested by them. But I agree.
its interesting that if you are the only person at a funeral you can choose if they go to heaven or hell
I thought of three diffrent things listening to the song. Originally, I thought it was a man in a abusive relationship reminiscing on how terrible his wife was. Upon making the connection between the name Mrs. Bluebeard and the story/legend, I assumed it was a woman who took the last name Bluebeard reminiscing on her life. Now that I see the video, I understand what's really going on.
I love how this was posted on Christmas Eve
Thank you for helping me understand the top comment.
TMBG still brilliant after all these years!
This is definitely my favorite track from I Like Fun.
I can’t believe I’m only just seeing this now! But thank goodness I’ve found it
Impressive, lyrically & visually.
I've been waiting for this one all year!
Oh good, the crow lived!
hiyyy
Death metal albums... a definite warning sign...
Don’t forget Hang In There Baby posters.
I love this so much. This has been such a great year for TMBG. This is honestly one of my favourite upbeat yet creepy songs they've done.
I appreciate this song more every time I hear it.
This is masterful. Exquisitely pessimistic. The John's have a way of channeling my constant, depressing thoughts and yet, no mater how creepy and ominous they attempt to craft their music, they quickly reveal that the exposition had always already been designed to progress to either a major key (familiar sounding) or a major melody over perhaps an augmented and less familiar chord. TMBG construct unconventional pop music. listen to the most depressing They might Be Giants song and I guarantee it appears, on the surface to be an up beat pop song. I want They Might Be Giants to put to music "Studies in pessimism" by Arthur Schopenhauer.
I first heard this on the phone
I love how after some thought, I realized that lady at the funeral KILLED what might of been her husband
Wait....OOOOOOOOOOH BLUEBEARD ok I get it now!
The animation 😍
i love that heaven and hell just...boop him out lol

"warning signs: death metal albums

This was one of my favorite songs off of the new album. I love the video and the story!
god I wish this song was longer.
This is on dial-a-song
Love what you did with the "ding"s.
A delightful song with a very satisfying video. What's not to like?
Christmas came early this year!
my favorite band killin it as usual
Y'all really did it up for us.
Keeps getting better.
this reminds me of google doodle
That black widow remainds me of someone who just fits perfectly in the verse "is this how you thank somebody for their selfless loyalty [...]". I feel so much identified whit this. Thanks a lot!
Probably my favorite song of the band. Very sensitive melodies
A beautiful video for a beautiful song. Is that the end of Dial-A-Song, then? It's been a great year, it was a lot of fun. And I Like Fun.
This might be fantastic... Yes it is fantastic!
Excellent song and animation!
Yea
Special thanks to John & John. Have a happy celebration of your choice, and best wishes for the arbitrary lap counter change day and all the days which follow.
I see this song as a possible prequel to Reprehensible
And then you have Trouble Awful Devil Evil as an epilogue
They still going
The Johns have been busy, and I haven't been paying attention. be sad for me.
My most favorite song by them!
That is spectacular and weird.
She'll be a fun one to dissect! :-D
Attention all gothic emo teens, please rise for your national anthem

Last one. :( Also, one of the best ones in my opinion.
so glad this was in my recommended.
You have no idea how long I've waited for this!
Wow this is a fantastic jam.
Oh man I remember them playing this song live in Boston back in April! Great to be able to hear it again
A sort of reverse Tomlinson. I love it.
One of my favorites off I Like Fun. Great video!
Too short & sweet!
This music video is beautiful.

One of my favorites from the album! I love the new animation too!
Oh my gosh, this is such a cool video! The animation style is really neat, and I love how it tells a full-fledged story. Well-done as always!
Finally this gets a video! This is one of my favourite songs of yours.
Best song off I Like Fun! Glad it finally got a video. Was hoping for a video for 'This is Only Going to Go One Way' also though...
Second best song by you guys
which one is the first?

0:52 IS THAT CRICKET ON THE LEFT OF THE GUY???
Awww shit this was cool.
Please more songs
This is age restricted for me?... why?...
The first minute contains animated imagery of a dead man with an axe in his head.
Just perfect.
“ Alas *my murdered remains* ”
Is that a self-reference?!
Other way around; the album title is referencing this lyric.
@@GrizonII this song is actually from I Like Fun, not My Murdered Remains.
@@awoogagoogaloo2889 Yeah, it is on I Like Fun but My Murdered Remains is still named in reference to it (despite it not being on the eponymous album-though note apparently "My Murdered Remains" was one of the working titles considered for the prior album before it was ultimately named I Like Fun, and was then reused for the subsequent album).
It's like how XTC's "Oranges & Lemons" and "Nonsuch" both have titles which appear in songs from the previous album, or like the opposite of how King Crimson's "Lizard" and "Starless and Bible Black" both have titles which reappear in lyrics from the subsequent album.
i love this song so much
Sad this one was age restricted
This is quite the video and song!
oooooooh I love this video!
This is in my top 5 favorite videos you've ever done. Well done, sirs.
Waxy
Man, what a great Christmas present.
If you’re confused where the beat starts, it’s on note three
You’re welcome
It's not though. Beat one is note one. Four full measures and "want" is on a one.
Creepy Jigglypuff angels...
Put it on 2x speed.
I dare you.
🦉 j'adore 🐛
This is legit amazing. Good job guys!
0:20 My Murdered Remains refrence ?
Quite the opposite, in fact! My Murdered Remains was named after the line from this very song, in fact! I Like Fun was, itself, nearly named that instead. True story!
I always just think of the Cocteau Twins’ Bluebeard 🖤
Last one of the year. :(
Wow. Yep. DNA is in fact a log.
so cute!!
first i heard this on the phone (Dial-A-Song)
Awesome
