      I work a lot with these forza lights as they are very affrodable to rent. Would love to see more lighting setups using them doing different scenes, indoors, outdoors, night, evening, day, morning and etc.

      Yep, really like this type of lighting setup videos. The light specs are good to know, especially the data not published by the manufactory. But IMO the actual usage and effects of the lights make the real difference, and provides more tangible guidance. If the video can include your camera settings (ISO, shutter speed and f stop), it would be even better. Looking for forward to more videos like this one.

      @@zhenyucai You are right in that when it comes down to it, you can create amazing imagery with super cheap, or super expensive lights if you use them right!

    Love your first sentence JT. We would love to show us the setup of lights, and how to use them. How to get the cinematic look on a budget. Getting cinema look is not a big deal. Everyone can do it with a lot of money and a lot of experts. The challenge is to be able to do it with cheapest lights possible. And even without any professional light at all if possible.
    Keep up the good work! God bless you!

    Oh dude "In reality sometimes it can take an entire day..." I'll often feel like I'm wasting time playing around with lights, but once you get the look you're after you really feel proud. Plus then you get a new "starting" block to go from next time when trying to achieve the same or similar look. Really enjoyed this video and the breakdown of why you put lights in different areas, as well as covering your in-camera white balance setting used.

      200% definitely! It can be really discouraging spending an hour on lighting and then the test shots look like crap, but when you finally get things looking good, you'll never forget that setup (even down to the brightness settings sometimes) BECAUSE it took so much work to create.

    This was great, please make more of these videos! Here's what I would like to see: most lighting setup videos like this are usually about lighting close up shots or medium shots. These get pretty standard, with your key light and backlight and background light, and it's relatively easy to place and hide the lights since you are shooting a close-up. What I would like to see is how to light a wide shot with several people in it that are moving, and with more camera movement, to me that's more challenging. Say, lighting for a wide indoor shot where the camera has to move from one room to another, or lighting for a dance video.

    Nice breakdown. Personally, I wouldn't call your final look "moody." You kinda killed the moody moodness 😉with that keylight at 100%. Yes, this was shot on the a7S III at 1/50 second and f/2.8 for everything. The ISO was around 6400 give or take 1/3-2/3 of a stop for different shots. It was shot in SLog3, so keep that in mind, because that's the equivalent to shooting at ISO 800 in a non-log/regular mode.
      I also shot it at 4K/60, but only 200 bitrate, so not as high quality as I could have. I'm a real stickler when it comes to hard drive space, lol.

    Nice! Do you think the Forza 60B is bright enough as a key light for talking head setups? Without the fan getting too loud? Or do you recommend the Forza 60 instead? I just like the bicolor flexibility. Also will be great to hear your verdict between the Forza 60 and Godox ML60 and which you’d recommend.

      My ML60 video comes out tomorrow or Friday, and has a ton of Forza comparisons :)
      For a key light, I’d probably go with the Forza 60. The 60B would struggle in brighter scenarios. It only worked well here because it was pitch black.

    Why is that the forza 60 rim light has a white color while the forza 200 has a bluish color? I thought they should have the same color, unless the forza 60 is gelled?

    • @NewLayer
      @NewLayer  Před 3 lety

      They may be a couple hundred Kelvin off from each other since lights can change color at different brightness. Believe it or not, shooting through a glass window can change the color as well.
      The hair light is brighter, so will appear less saturated too, and finally, the wall isn't completely white, so it picks up some color from that.
      Hope that helps!

Or is there maybe a new light you think is better than Forza 60/60B for the price? Can the fan noise be a problem when doing intervju?

      @NewLayer  Před 3 lety

      Thanks, glad you liked it!
      I still really love the Forza lights. The only downside is that they are not a native Bowens mount, but they do have a decent Bowens mount adapter if you want to use something bigger than the 24" native softbox.
      I used the 60 as a talking head light in the 24" softbox, and had it only at 35%. In a controlled environment, you should be able to use the 60B for talking head/interviews, but you may need to use it at a higher power.
      If you're getting two I suggest to get one 60 and one 60B, so you have more brightness when needed.

      @@FlyfisherFilm Happy to help. I would assume the Elinchrom D-Lite uses Elinchrom-style adapters, rather than Bowens mount. There are adapters for that as well, but I'd try to stay away from double adapting if at all possible.

      It totally depends on how big your modifier is, how far the light is placed, and what ISO you usually shoot at. You could do mid or mid close ups with a 24-36” softbox if you’re at 1/250 second, ISO 800, and f/2.8, but anything further and I would suggest a higher power light.

    I only have flash lights, but i want to order a few video lights to use for my client shoots. I was considering a 120d II but its so damn expensive. I saw your other video on the Forza 60, but would love to get recommended if you have any advice for key lights / hair lights in small areas. Thanks!

    • @NewLayer
      @NewLayer  Před 3 lety

      The 120d II is definitely probably overkill for what you need.
      There's also the Godox ML60, which is similar to the Forza 60 but a little cheaper and has some advantages/differences: czcams.com/video/GHiMqZ9oiQM/video.html It is not a native Bowens mount but you can get an adapter, or just use the Godox mount modifiers which are very lightweight and inexpensive.
      Aputure has a budget line of lights called the Amaran 100d, 100x, 200d, and 200x coming out very soon too. I have a video for that, but I can't tell you when it'll be released. If you can wait a tiny bit, that may also be a good option since it's Bowens mount geni.us/aputureamaran100d

      @@muhameddelic1819 The ML60 is definitely not a cheap light! It’s very well made and works great. The only downside is that it’s not a native Bowens Mount, but for a small light I have actually come to like that because the native modifiers made for it are much lighter.
      I’d also say it’s better built than the Forza 60/60b.

    Thank you for the tutorial! Just a clarification though, when talking about moody scenes first thing that comes to my mind is about the contrast, the shadows. Would it be better to remove the keylight and instead replace it with a white reflector just to fill the face so the contrast remains?

    • @NewLayer
      @NewLayer  Před 3 lety +1

      You're welcome. Moody can mean different things to different people, but you're right. Honestly one of my favorite shots in this setup is with just the window and back light, which is why I think doing a dimmer key light like I mentioned towards the end would be cool. It would have a different feel for sure.
      That's the beauty of lighting, is that you can do whatever you want! :)
