Which is just a logical conclusion to make, it doesn’t stop him having been our ancestor, why does it bother you to think that we descended from people with dark skin?

@@allthebanter9316 I was referencing the Horrible Histories 'Been here for the start' song that tries to suggest that people of Sub-Saharan African heritage have been prominent and common-place throughout the history of the Isles. I have no problem with the fact that there would have been people with darker skin here and there, but it's obvious political messaging that's no doubt well meaning wanting to encourage a sense of belonging and pride in cultural heritage, but the BBC is deliberately twisting facts to fulfill their diversity & equity initiatives.

This was a mess, the history is all jumbled and wrong, i can't even list all the mistakes, they don't have enough extras and it's really unoriginal in how much it tries to copy from other films, just like how in gladiator the main character looks forward to dying and being with his murderd family again, same here apparently, despite there being no written account of any of her family actually being murdered.....it's just terrible, she even has a magic sword that flies into her hand like she's Thor or something. There's no question what happened to her and her daughters can only be described as repugnant. However Boudica massacred innocent women and children and cut off the breasts of Women and had them impaled on spikes. She may be a face of freedom like William Wallace to some but Boudica to me wasn't Pro Women and shouldn't be seen as a Women fighting for the rights of other women. Her acts describe more of someone who was a Xenophobic, Genocidal Maniac like Roman Emporers Caligula or Nero.

Is not propaganda, is a fact, roman armies were better than any other at the time, and could win impressive victories thanks to the training, and equipment. I mean, romans understood the value of their soldiers, unlike every other culture back then. They even had a place to retire army horses when they get too old., called the vetes, from where we got the word veterinarian. Boudica did not care one bit about her men, she just send them blind to hit the roman line at least 3 times before they brike and a massacre ensued, she even went as far as to allow women and children on the battlefield. Quite the terrible "retelling", As if this story needed even more embellishing by tagging on nonsense like Christian cruelty not being compatible with Britanic religion at a time when there was no open worshiping of Christ in Rome as they were also persecuted by Rome. They also left out the brutality against her Daughters, that there was no betrayal against the king, her husband nor did Boudica try to bribe her way into being Queen. Her husband named their daughters AND the Emperor as heirs in his will and since Roman law allowed no women to hold office, the kingdom was Romes and they came and took it.
Then...then the breaking of the sword and tossing it in the water and being magically remade instantly...god this shit was horrible. It did not need this kind of treatment, the story was already great. I would not recommend this Boudica movie to ANYONE when there are so many great other versions that did not feel the need to ruin her story with nonsense.

It's dire believe me.

We have to remember too the writings we have about her come from about 100 years later so it's unlikely they knew exactly what her appearance was like. In fact in making her tall, with a harsh voice, wild hair etc it's making her sound like some kind of androgynous pr masculine woman which was probably part of the roman propaganda to contrast that with the ideal roman or Greek woman who was meant to be a quiet, dutiful mother who took no part in politics.

@@lw3646 the writings we have about her are contemporaneous, they were primarily correspondence from the Roman general she was fighting at the time, Suetonius paulinux. Even the secondary sources that recorded her, such as Tacitus, were alive at the time and had primary sources present in the area, namely his father in law julius Agricola, who was a tribune in Britain at the time. Literally every account of her is as a warrior, she led her soldiers into battle, as was traditional at the time. Finally while yes it is possible that the description of her could be Roman propaganda, it is unlikely that Roman propaganda would be written by an iceni poet, don’t you think? It seems you have just taken the most basic general criticisms of historical sources and not done any research on if those criticisms even apply to the sources we have for Boudicca. The latest writing we have of her that purports to be a primary source is 60 years later, for context there is a longer gap between the end of WW2 and now.

But I'll admit I'm half trolling. At least it seems like it's going to be more historically accurate than black Cleopatra.
I am more commentating on how movie seemed to almost always want to have a "hero" and a "villain" to fit the film structure better, so often they will overlook atrocities to make the main character look better.
The best example of this is probably Maximus in gladiator where they had to portray him as a sympathetic character and they overlook the fact that he just slaughtered a bunch of natives defending their Homeland and anyone who they captured would be crucified.
I'm curious if they're going to show the brutal druidic sacrifices of innocent women and children who were just there and happen to be living in Roman Britain. Realistically, since most of the sources from this time are going to be Roman they're probably going to go into more along the lines of propaganda, but when one considers that Victor's Justice was incredibly extreme in this time I'm curious if it'll actually show what the victorious army will do to anyone that gets in the way, ei lots of rape and murder.

If they actually focused East they would've been in power longer than any empires. They wasted 500 years trying to expand but nothing great came out of it but blood shed by 5th century they couldn't handle Germanic tribes attacking from all corners. The romans never seem to have managed to completely subdue the Brits but they did to some degree. There's so many remains of roman villas spread across Britain. The romans didn't really try and expand further after the Emperor Trajan, the 3rd century was mostly taken up actually with infighting and civil wars.
For an empire to last 400 years is pretty incredible and even the people who sought to overthrow it in some senses wanted to buy into it too. The causes of its collapse are complex and not down to one single factor, still hotly deepened by historians today.
