I bought the v-stoptail version of this in Claret Burst a couple of weeks ago. Unbelievable build quality at its pricepoint, or attention to finish detail at any pricepoint really. I have a stunning G5422TG Electromatic to compare it with. Not new toy novelty or owner pride, I love the tone of this guitar and these FideliSonic 90 pickups in all three settings.
Bought this bad boy last month in Gunmetal. Plays as beautifully as it looks! Absolutely over the moon with this guitar! I tested it a couple years back at a Guitar Center and knew it would one day be my next guitar!
After I got my Dad (90) a 2655 last year I couldn't stop looking at Gretsches. Now I picked up the PRS Standard on that Sam Ash deal - I keep looking at those...on sale with even sweeter deals 🎸🎸🎸
FACT: Staple P90’s are unique because they use actual AlNiCo magnet pole pieces inside the coils (much like Fender pickups) instead of bar magnets underneath the coils with fillister head screws.
Now that is one killer guitar, my friend! Absolutely gorgeous! I just love Gretsch instruments. Love their guitars in general. And I really love Gretsch Semi-Hollow Guitars, in particular. The Electromatics and Streamliners are amazing guitars, and you can have a lot of fun with them. They do bluesy rock tones that are just amazing. But they can do a lot more too. Killer guitar!
Your reviews are getting expensive for me. 😅 You do a very detailed job which leads me to trust your recommendations. I love your terms: “el cheapo” and other wonderful terms. Like Bruce Springsteen, I guess your coming out of New Jersey or near there.
I have the small sized version of this same guitar. It's a treasure. Those staple p90s sound AWESOME... I removed the pickguard because I play without using a pick. So I don't need a pickguard. And I'll just say that IMO, it looks so much better. It changes completely the way it looks. I bought the small sized version and now it's also my couch guitar (I play it without plugging it... because is very resonant. Congratulations my friend. It's a great SOUNDING guitar that just keeps growing on you. Take my advice and look how it changes without that (awful) pickguard.

How would you compare the build quality of this with a Monoprice Boardwalk?
Better build quality, better electronics, significantly better pickups.
