- Despite being a popular pick in previous formats, Dondozo usage has fallen off in Regulation D thanks to the inclusion of Pokemon like Urshifu and Rillaboom. A Japanese player finished 6th and 10th in the July ranked season with a new take on Dondozo. The team features four attack Ghost Tera Blast Dondozo with Figy Berry, Choice Specs Sylveon, Life Orb Heatran, and Tyranitar + Lyanroc!

Is that another Aaron Cybertron Zheng video where he provides live commentary as he goes?!
no this is patrick
It's actually another episode of Road to Ranked where he climbs the online Regulation D VGC ladder in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet and provides live commentary AS HE GOES *pause to breathe* lolol
As a singles player, seeing Dondozo and "win games quickly" together in the same sentence is crazy haha
Oh he’s a giant stall muffin on that end isn’t he lol
That’s what makes Dondozo so crazy. It’s prime stall in singles, but hyper offense in doubles
I feel that - even in VGC, Dondozo traditionally is much more slower paced since so many sets run Leftovers and Protect! This set being as offensive as it is really stood out to me
Love being early for an Aaron Cybertron Zheng video
My body is ready
Second time saying this but I hope you get to showcase the Sylveon + Zapdos team that won Worlds in the Senior Division!
I'd love to! Haven't seen the team published publicly though
I love Sylveon, so it's nice to see it winning something big.
oh hi toast been a while
@@galaxystudios370 hi
I loved that match. Gastrodon my MVP ❤
QOTD: I thought out and drew the concept of an earthworm/parasitic worm Pokémon that pilots a giant bird Pokémon. Its quite similar to TatsuDozo but the Ability is called Pilot and it raises the Attack, Speed and Accuracy of the bird Pokémon by two stages. It's literally a take on "The early bird catches the worm" but swap bird and worm and obviously a pilot and an airplane.
I love that
Nintendo should hire you
QOTD: This would be a great direction to take Plus/Minus. If you have one of each on they field they both get +1 to all stats, but can't switch out (they're magnetized together after all)
I love this! Do you think there be any changes to the stat boosts if one gets knocked out?
Very good thought, but the magnetization effect seems like a very large disadvantage and, unless there's like a region variant to both of those Pokemon that might give them different stats and types, then it might not even be that good. Maybe without the debuff it would still be super ok! Great idea though, bring back beloved but forsaken Mons!
QOTD: I was thinking of something called Pack Leader for a velociraptor-styled Pokémon, where it gets a stat boost of some sort while on the field with a Pokémon that shares one of its types. Gives you extra power but more vulnerability to the types that are good into the shared type.
Been having so much fun with this team, thanks for sharing
Love your videos Aaron. Youre so knowledgeable and entertaining. Its really a pleasure
Your videos are the best and have taught me so much about team building!
I really enjoy your breakdown of the teams as a casual VGC player keeps me up to date on the meta
I just have to say. I am so impressed at how well you play this game. The fact that you perform so well despite having minimal experience with the team. Its really fun to watch a master at his craft
Love these videos, gives me ideas for teams. I'll make one when I'm lift sharing to work.
Letsgooooo, great combo and new video!
thank you for featuring more lycanroc! It's my favorite pokemon and I reached master ball tier for the first time using the ttar/lycanroc team you featured way back in regulation A. Love your content, been watching for many many years.
17:37 pretty sure I heard “Flutter Wayne”, and I’m totally here for it. Thanks as usual for the awesome videos Aaron, the teams have been so cool lately.
Blessed with so many uploads 🙏
QOTD: An ability that could be named as "Lone Wolf" where the Pokemon will have its primary stat raised 2 levels when it is the only Pokemon alive in the battle.
Ooh, neat. Basically a doubles focused, all-or-nothing version of Kingambit’s “Supreme Overlord”.
Lycanroc is one of my fav mons from alola, all forms are so cool
I see Aaron playing with Sylveon, I’ve been summoned. And such an interesting set as well, always looking for the best way to run my favorite mon! QOTD: There’s a certain bird species (Oxpeckers) that sits on Rhino’s and form a symbiotic relationship, and that was my first thought for a commander like ability. Plus another Rhino Pokémon wouldn’t hurt!
QOTD: I always felt a fun hidden ability would be for regigas when he is on the field a fellow regi gets +2 in their highest stat and gigas goes -2 in that stat
I always watch your videos and think about how I can counter the team with the current team I’m using … this is one of those teams where I’m not sure how I can counter it 😭😂 great video brother! Happy to have you back consistently posting 💚
Just started trying this out on show down and it is so good thank you so much
First time you featured a team I've played against! Managed to defeat it with Regieleki / Urshifu-R / Flutter Mane / Corviknight (Chi-Yu & Florges in the bench) VS Tyranitar / Lycanroc / Sylveon / Dondozo, tera Ghost was totally unexpected
QOTD: I might play around with the idea of protection, maybe a "get down mr. president"-style ability. The ability would be something like "if the partner pokemon would take a super effective hit, it kicks the partner pokemon out of the fight, gains +2 in all stats, and takes the hit. cannot switch until it faints."
oooh thats cool! thats in jrpgs. knight/shield/cover/rampart (or whatever other names they give it).
Unrelated, but that's how I imagine Friend Guard on Maushold works. The babies jumping in front of Maushold's partner and barely blocking anything.
QOTD: It's maybe a bit more like a cousin of Commander but the ability would be Hypnotist and when it comes on the field it hypnotizes its teammate into having two stats +6 as long as their trance is up. The Hypnotist cannot attack while it is trancing their teammate and an automatic Rage Powder effect and if it is hit, the trance is broken the partner reverts to the stat changes it had prior to the Hypnotist coming on the field. I think it meets the same effectively one mon on the field requirement as DozoGiri, but more risk and reward with the higher boosts, but random distribution and could work on a Psychic Terrain team to protect against priority.
I can't believe I'm saying this after how overplayed the duo have been in Scarlet and Violet, but I kind of missed Dondozo and Tatsugiri. There was something fun about how many teams were made with them in mind, both playing and countering them. It must be Urshifu making me suffer from Rose Tinted Glasses. I love so much about Regulation D, but Urshifu definitely isn't one of those things.
QotD: Great Responsibility - While Palafin is out in Zero form with a Pokémon with Sidekick, Palafin becomes like Tatsugiri and is untouchable by attacks and cannot select a move. If the Pokémon with Sidekick faints by an attack, Palafin enters Hero form and has its Attack, Defense, and Speed increased by one stage. Palafin's Attack, Defense, and Speed are lowered by a stage once the Pokémon that knocked out the Sidekick faints.
Palafin's a superhero, and what's a superhero without an Uncle Ben to motivate them? I do think giving Palafin a boost and removing the main weakness of its form change is really strong, so the Uncle Ben Pokémon would have to have very low stats to compensate.
I saw this team on the ladder earlier today, thought it seemed pretty wild
Love the content and the in-depth analysis of the teams and weaknesses! I really want to participate in some regional tournaments and maybe someday make it to worlds. I’m only decent when it comes to competitive and your videos help me a lot with formulating strategies. I was wondering if you could maybe do a video with general advice for mastering competitive Pokemon for novices and maybe lay out a path to ranking high in those regional tournaments. Thanks a bunch!
Your commentary is the best I’ve ever heard.
This team reminds me a lot of reg A wich was is my fav reg (mainly because no flutter)
curious the another day i had a match with you with this team, if i knew before that dondozo was oblivious instead of unaware, i would have won the battle XD good fight! i was using the tauros anger point
QOTD: one mon that is slow and super bulky with an ability that makes it immune to status effects (similar to gholdengo's ability) and the other mon is a fast glass cannon with an ability that traps the pair in and makes it so it the slow bulky mon can only use status moves but gives it +2 def +2 spdef and causes it to "guard" the glassy mon redirecting damage to itself (including spread moves.) Not sure if it would be too strong to give the glassy mon a damage boost while the ability is in effect.
New to VGC and excited to dive in - is there any use to build these teams ourselves versus using rental codes? It sounds more fun to build.
QOTD: I was thinking today of an ability that double the effect of your held item, ik it seem broke but I feel GF would give it a awful stat pokemon 😅
I just got master ball rank with this team, heatran is a f beast!!!!
Thank you for the team ❤🎉
Omg. Got to master ball tier for the first time in gen 9 with this team!!! Having not overly enjoyed any teams or the formats as a whole in this gen so, this team spoke to me. I love it! Thanks, Aaron! :)
So happy to hear that, congratulations and thank you for watching!
Great video. Also, is Regieleki common because I rarely see him on showdown
Been looking for some sand to play with Reg D.
This team looks so dope
Dondozo + Tatsugiri is like a pair of old leather boots.
Very comfortable to use, but you know they are getting out of fashion nowadays.
love this team, and i love using Lycanroc Ttar, however there are a few issues with the team. First, Sylveon is missing a 4th move, yawn or something would be nice to give you some status control or force switches. Secondly, Bulldoze is a useless move on Lycanroc since you're only putting it on the field under sandstorm where it will outspeed everything anyway, switching that out for endure so you can have your sash popped but still survive to be cheeky with Endeavor is a much better move for that slot.
How to deny trickroom to cressellia off turn one with this team? Any suggestions? Love your videos Aaron, thanks for sharing
I’ve been running ttar Lycanroc all of reg D it feels really good into meta surprisingly
Cooking up another one!
QOTD: I'd give counterpart Pokemon like Plusle and Minun or Illumise and Volbeat an ability that gives +2 to all stats like Commander, but also a perpetual Helping Hand effect while they're together. I'd also give natural enemy Pokemon like Heracross and Pinsir or Zangoose and Seviper a Competitive-like ability where they recieve a Beast Boost when their teammate has one of their stats raised.
QOTD: I have a fakemon based on viy, a Slavic mythical demonic creature with eyelashes so heavy that it needs help from its subjects to lift them, and its stare is able to stun anyone from fear. I designed it in 2018 way before SwSh and created a psychic type signature attack called Freezing Stare that freezes the opponent before galarian Articuno lol. Originally I gave its super weak stat-wise preevo, which is based on such viy's subject, a strong ability that can turn its allies' two-turn moves (f.e. Solar Beam) and moves that skip a turn (f.r. Hyper Beam) into one-turn moves in double battles, because Freezing Stare is a two-turn move. But I can totally see the two with Commander-like interaction instead, where Veelash (preevo) joins Wheerlid (evo) and opens its heavy eyes to help it perform.
Considering the Tatsugiri choice, i would swap EQ or Rockslide for order up to outspeed more mons
I gotta try this team
QOTD I've always wanted an ability that worked together with protection/detection moves, like on a succesful protect you'd get a stat-boost in the defense of the type you protected against, no effect when protecting succesfully against status moves.
For qotd I’d like to see something for empoleon- I’d call it “emperor” and it’d give empoleon a sp attack or sp defense boost for every water or steel Pokémon on the field (although it might work better as a supreme overlord knock off)
Something for Empoleon could be good, if possible something based on the irl Emperor Penguin could be cool, maybe it could automatically redirect an attack that would have felled an ally? Since Emperor Penguins endure a lot of cold and pain to make sure their chicks hatch and survive alright.
QOTD: I'm imagining something like Tatsugiri's "Commander" but less specific and applicable to more Pokemon. My idea was an ability called "Symbiotic", where in the Pokemon would be able to use its teammate's item and the teammate could do the same thing. An example would be the Pokemon getting knocked down into berry range, and then eating its teammate's pinch berry, or even eating its own pinch berry at the same time as well. This could give more use to items like the Clear Amulet, allowing its effects to be spread to other active Pokemon. There are some combos that would be detrimental though, such as choice items, wherein both Pokemon have to be okay locking into a move and needing to benefit from the boost. It could be a fun way to give more use for some items, and allow for some cool team synergy.
As for what the Pokemon using it would be like, I'm imagining one based off of an actual parasite. It could be a sort of tapeworm, leech or mosquito, or a regional variant of the Parasect line.
QOTD- Id do an illusion/assist ability. where you copy the moveset of whichever pokemon is on the field with you. (this would be hilariously broken if the pokemon with this ability has good stats). like imagine an iron bundle with it next to a wailord and they both throw off Water Spouts.
What time in the day do you usually start playing? I want to try my team with you haha
Rewatching and I've an idea for the QOTD this time around;
Basically, have a duo like Dondozo and Tatsugiri, but when they combine instead of a bunch of stat boosts, give the remaining Pokémon access to both move pools.
That would give Dondozo access to Draco Meteor, for example.
Would be an interesting way of utilizing this new mechanic they introduced. Basically, you'll still be fighting both Pokémon (because both sets of move pools would be available to the one Pokémon), but the one Pokémon would be immune until injected out.
To keep this from being too OP that's why I'm saying the stat boosts don't occur. If it's still too OP put a move timer on the combination of like 5 turns or something.
Anyways, something I thought would be neat 🤷🏽♀️
I reached master ball rank with this team, i found my best leads where Tatsu and Sylveon followed with Dondo and Ttar or Heatran. Such a good team!
So this was the team I kept seeing in rank last night! I believe I battled 5 people with this exact team, and I won only 3 games. It looks like a good team
I would like to see an ability between other certain pokemon who have a certain thing going on together. imagine an ability between Seviper and Zangoose, 2 pokemon who are natural enemies. having both out at the same time should make them more aggressive but the teammate should lose some health after each attack, like a lifeorb effect but the drawback is for your partner pokemon.
Sick shirt Aaron! Where’d you get it?
“Stone Cold guard” if snows set it will make the Pokémon that have the ability guarantee protect even against urshifu and moves that go through or around protect wouldn’t have to be a specific Mon but could lead Aboma Cetitan and the ability could be for Cetitan just an idea mainly to combat the OP unseen fist (any snow setter will work in combination could maybe even run snowscape on Cetitan itself
Why does sylveon have choice specs and sleep talk? What's the likelihood you get slept when you enter the field to be able to lock into sleep talk?
I’m new to Pokémon so finally a team that doesn’t require the transfer Pokémon while being competitive though lycanroc will be hard to get and same with heatran to get outside the game.
Lycanrock is just in Scarlet and Violet. You don't need a tramsfer for that one.
my commander spoof ability would be a lil guy with three formies. One formie adds its HP directly to the bossmans HP total. Another formie directly adds its Speed Stat total to bossmin's, and the last formie adds +1 priority to all its moves. All would have different counterplays, i.e. super fang, speed control, priority control while the boss pokemon is fairly limited in moveset, quite unlike dondozo, as the tradeoff of having stat clearing/crit not available as counterplay
QOTD: Give it both pokemon's speed stats (one fast and one slow) and let it act twice in the turn order.
Babe get the snacks, Aaron posted a video!
Game 5, with Regidrago on the field, they definitely expected Sylveon to come out for sure, they tried a very hard read and sadly didn't pay off.
Nice shirt aaron!
Why do people use a move slot on sleep talk for Tatsugiri when it doesn’t have rest ?
that Sylveon set 👀
I'd make a commander-esque ability that heals the partner by 50% of the maximum health each turn and let's it use the moves of the commanding pokemon (So you basically get 8 moves).
The pokemon with these abilities also gets a lot of drain Moves for further sustain.
I like that sylven set
Where does this man get his clothing? Best on CZcams
I kinda Understand the 3move Sylveon But couldnt you add Dazzling Gleam or something to give it its 4th move?
Maybe Yawn to force switches/status, but Dazzling Gleam would be a waste. Hyper Voice already turns into a Fairy type spread move, and it's stronger than Dazzling. You'd simply gamble power away from your turns using Sleep Talk.
QOTD: My dad comes back with milk boosting my self esteem and self worth by 2x.
Where are we on a move called HALT that is a reverse tailwind. Drops your speed stat dramatically to combat trick room teams?
a version of defog/rapid spin but for trick room and tailwind. id like for that to be real.
For Sylveon. If its put to sleep, does Choice Specs reset if for example you're already locked into Hyper Voice for example?
If you are locked in Sleep will not reset you.
I went against a team like this but it had Covert Cloak Dondozo with Tera Flying, terablast.
Ignored my fakeout from Iron Hands and proceeded to destroy my Amoongus and then the rest of my team
Would this be a solid team to get back into the game? I played the first series at launch and just was discouraged w graphics and overall game performance but I want to get back into it.
Cheers.
I personally do think this is a great team for that purpose - it's got some very clear strategies and has a ton of raw power to work with
good luck getting back into it!!
I think that the team needs a wide guard user. Also, Lycanroc would appreciate accelerock instead of bulldoze
QOTD: It's a cool idea, but has many nuances in order to be balanced. So I thought of "Wondrous Aura". It'd be the signature ability of a ghost type regional variant of shellder, that instead of evolving slowpoke, possesses it with a wonder guard effect, in additionto slowpoke's ability. Since it's an aura ability, it would be also subject to being reversed by aura break (making slowpoke invulnerable to usually super effective attacks, but vulnerable to all other attacks).
I think it could be broken with tera, but outside of this meta it would be ok, since slowpoke has decent defensive profile and access to many status moves, but it's far from a threat usually.
Oh, and like commander, this would leave slowpoke alone in the field during it's effects
QOTD: an hability that makes ally psychic pokemon take less damage from strong attacks, but takes more damage from weak attacks. For example, it could be [dmg taken = 160 - move damage]. So eruption would have 10 base damage, and tackle would have 120 base damage (not applicable to priority moves); explosion would do no dmg)
QOTD: I would rework Rivalry and make it give pokemon like Nidoking and Nidoqueen as well as Zangoose and Seviper an omni-boost when they're on the field together
QOTD: some sort of ant queen pokemon, where it gets a stat boost when a smaller, lesser ant mon goes on the field
QOTD : Symbiosis. Only applicable to grass types. When pokemon with ability symbiosis is out, it fuses with its partner on the field. Restores 25% of the combined pokemons hp each turn, makes it status immune, and boosts stats..however if the combined pokemon is taken out then both pokemon faint because one cannot function without the other
Aaron please where do you get your SHIRTS they're so good
This one is from Express :)
TY! now reveal the source of the flareon polo and we'll be good :)@@CybertronVGC
Qotd: commander is an interesting ability, off the top of my head I thought of Kaze’s personal skill from FE Fates that was basically a Focus Band for allies, it’s a gimmicky idea but i like it lol
Honestly? I feel Commander should be given to more “food” Pokémon, with the real change being to Order up, like you eat vanillux & Order up becomes part Ice like Flying press
Then again, it’s not exactly a Food thing, but a ratatouille thing, so having parasitic Pokémon get this would be more interesting, like Shellder/Cloyster get it for the Slowpoke line, or Mimickyu/Bannet/shedninja/Rotom(Naked form) get it for Stuffle/mechanical Pokémon
We could also give love to Parasect & have them do this for any grass type, but treat it like a free “No retreat”, just a +1 to everything, applied to both Pokémon, & no easy escape
I actually like the Shellder one because Tatsugiri changes Order up based on their color, you could have Shellder be “Pink pearl form” “Black pearl form” for the same effect!
Wait a second maybe Plus & Minus should get the Commander/No retreat effect, a speed boost & bulk would be a massive support upgrade 🤔
Sweet shirt Aaron
The opponent in the last game could have played it out for one more turn and banked on a double miss from Heat Wave and Icy Wind into Critical hit Make it Rain, would have been a crazy turn-around
Cool shirt bro
i love that shirt man.
as i go gang rise up
Before seeing this video I literally just battled this team 😂 I won thank goodness
Ability: Cannon foder
Users: Blastoise, Octillery
Description: Small sized Pokémon enter their cannons which increase power of cannon based moves.
QOTD: i think regular form rotom with a steel like pokemon would be fun.
Wait how did your Shylvieon got only 3 move in your moveset 😶
Just delete the 4th move :)
Nice shirt!
At first glance I thought it was a bunch of Galarian Darmanitan
QOTD: Give a pair of Pokémon a fusion kind of move much like the fusion dance from DBZ, that could be a great laugh! 😂
Yay Lycanroc
QotD: My idea isn't exactly like commander, and it involves hypothetical starters that are grass/fire, fire/water, and water/grass. And while these starters would have the standard starter abilities, I think they're hidden abilities would allow them to be able to learn both pledge moves (depending on the types) and essentially just combine them into one move slot creating a very powerful move that would have to be buffed with a recharge, recoil, low pp count or something. Some ideas for the ability names (or name of the move, haven't decided yet) would be Forest Fire (grass+fire), Flame Flood (fire+water), and Landslide (water+grass)
like the Pledge moves? Water pledge, fire pledge, grass pledge.
Yeah, exactly
Clever Slyveon set
Let's gooo
Still waiting for a team with galarian articuno😔
