    This was a great talk about how to dry your cut flowers. The when, why to choice the best ones and how. Great little tips from Ellen Frost of Local Color Flowers and Lisa Ziegler of the Gardeners Workshop. This walk has really help me to be confident to test my flowers. I’m a newbie in the flower farming. 🌻I have taken both of theses ladies courses and I highly recommend them. You will not be disappointed!

    This was packed full of wonderful information. I took Ellen's on line workshop about selling to florists. I'm going into my second year of growing flowers on a large scale and I'm making sure to lean heavy on growing things that can be dried. I met up with a local willow nursery in my area and am making room on my farm to grow specific varieties of willow to make my own wreaths for the dried flowers that I will grow and I'm going to grow my own curly willow for arrangements as well. I'm so excited to be able to work with dried flowers again. I'm in my 50s and I can remember when dried flowers were so popular a while back. Your channel is such a wonderful resource!!!

      Hello, Martha! I think you are so smart to consider the drying potential of the flowers you are growing 😊I really enjoyed hearing how Ellen focuses on purchasing fresh flowers that can also dry well so that she can repurpose any leftovers. Such a great tip for florists and farmers alike! I am so happy you are enjoying working with dried flowers again - your willow wreaths will be beautiful 😍Thanks so much for watching and for sharing your dried flower story with us! 🤗

      Hi Martha. I have not begun to grow yet. Never sold a stem. Family illness has prevented me starting farming. I was able to practice all last spring and summer seed starting, some succession, as Lisa Z does. I have been growing from seed for many years, never had the success I had growing with soil blocks, heat mats and lights. Always had lights before, the soil blocks and heat mat was the game changer for me. I found that process so fun, so amazing, and had a lot of success. I am in Virginia, South of Richmond, in Crewe. I am wondering if you would consider discussing with me, how you are going about farming, honestly, at your age. I am also in my 50's, I will be doing this on my own. I do not think I will be able to do this without hiring labor, and starting with equipment I still need to purchase. As I have been dreaming and planning, since fall 2021, I have come to see I cannot do this as I would really like to. I wanted to start the same as Lisa Z did, wheel barrow, shovel, hoe, SEEDS, etc. simple lowest cost to start up, scale up as I experience success. I just don't think my body can do all that is required even if I start very small. If I were 20, or even 40, I absolutely would start the same as Lisa Z did. I am really pretty fit, but I know that aspects of the labor necessary will be too much for my body to maintain/sustain. I have land, 5 acres, it has great potential, entire property gets full sun all day. This property has to start making money for me to live, and I desire to do what I love to make that living. I know I can do this. I have also taken Lisa's Basics course, and Dave Dowling's course. I wanted to sign up for Ellen's course, and many others, but the course of the family illness was taking a huge toll on my time and brain as a caregiver. Everything has changed now, and I need to try to push as much as I am able, to move forward to prepare for spring.
      I know it is not safe to share our personal information on social media. I would prefer to just post my phone # here but that is not responsible. I hope you are interested to connect, and there is a safe way we could have a more personal discussion about how you are managing your farm. Maybe you could vet me through TGW, they may, at least confirm I have taken those online courses(?) I am glad to contact them to give them my permission to share my contact information. I do not like to participate on Face Book, but if you are interested, we could try to connect that way. I know this may seem I am pressuring you, I hope I have not come across that way. Please know, with no doubt, I can hear a "No" from you, no explanation necessary. I will take absolutely no offense. I am genuinely, deeply happy for you, and so many others, to hear of success and future flower farming plans. I hope you continue to experience success on your flower farming journey. I saw your comment and thought she may have some pearls of wisdom for me, I'll ask.

    Do you dry zinnias? If you do, are some colors better than others? Also... Snapdragons?

    • @LayneAngeloTGW
      @LayneAngeloTGW Před rokem +2

      Hello, Connie! Lisa has not had much success drying zinnias and has not tried snapdragons. I have seen zinnias listed in dried flower books, so I would give those a try! The zinnia petals may have a curled-up appearance if hung upside down to dry, so if that is not the look you are going for, you may want to lay them flat to dry. If you end up drying either of these flowers, we would love for you to report back with your results! Thanks so much for watching, and best of luck in your dried flower adventures 🤗

    At the 9:30 mark Ellen mentions Lindera. Is this Lindera benzoin aka Spicebush? She is using this dried? 🤔 Am I confusing species/plants?
