I Made A LARP Costume In 16 Days || High Fantasy Ranger

  • New larp, new costume! I'll take you along on my build process for my most recent costume meant for a high fantasy ranger. And counting all the days I actually worked on the costume, it turns out I only needed 16!
    This character is based on a background my player group wrote ourselves. It is an interesting mix between the witcher, mortal engines and some other ideas. But general fantasy costumes like this archercan be adapted to most kinds of high or low fantasy larps. Or even outside of larp, it would be well suited for anything lord of the rings inspired.
    The (dutch) larp I'm attending with this costume is Booyah! : www.booyah-larp.nl/index.php/...

    Haha, I love how you toss out your original plan for the hood cause sometimes you accidentally make the perfect one XD

    • @MarisArmoury
      @MarisArmoury  Před 2 lety +6

      Yup, indeed. Why waste time on more effort? And to be honest, just saying 'screw it, lets change the plan' is half the fun.

    @hollyingraham3980 Před 2 lety +4

    Double pockets are brilliant. But terminology: you have no interfacing. That's simply a facing. An interfacing is a layer inside the facing especially to stiffen an edge, or any other stiffening layer, like interfacing a fold over collar so it isn't floppy.
    Also, as a former competition archer I can say that cloth covering the wrist is zero problem.

    • @MarisArmoury
      @MarisArmoury  Před 2 lety

      Ah yes, that is indeed correct, but in my speed of wanting to say things I occasionally use them interchangeably.

    Edit: I just finished watching the video, the costumes ended up incredible! It looks amazing 😊

    This was a good video. I'm making a ranger inspired tunic coat thing and I learned a couple things in fitting here.
    And I love that archery tab you made.
    Might make some myself

      Thank you! The event was indeed a lot of fun, so you will see more of this costume in the future! The jacket was pretty warm, but it was surprisingly cold that weekend, and with the freezing temperatures and wind we had still a bit chilly.

    Just from the end of it, one major thing I'd note that would have been a good idea for an addition is something for your hair...long hair can be a pain in the ass when shooting because you don't get flowing cinematics, but always seems to get hair in your face and screwing with your vision.

    • @MarisArmoury
      @MarisArmoury  Před rokem

      I did not mention it in the video, but I tie the front bits of my hair back in a tiny ponytail with this costume.

    • @AzraelThanatos
      @AzraelThanatos Před rokem

      @@MarisArmoury Yeah, that just reminded me of the nightmare that I'd had to deal with in the past when my hair was longer...I still occasionally need to deal with issues when my hair gets a bit to long...but, unfortunately, still to short for most solutions. That's why it jumped out at me with it

    It's nice to see the process that went into building this one. Definitely a worthy addition to the Scavvie ranks. Watch your back out there, Dead One. ;-)

    you could use a normal less bulky quiver if you just flip the arrows around so the fletching is in the quiver and not the tip of the arrow

    • @madpacman0309
      @madpacman0309 Před rokem

      also the jacket is cool

    • @MarisArmoury
      @MarisArmoury  Před rokem

      Yes! That is a possibility and a lot of people use them that way. But I set myself a challenge to specifically make one where the arrows face the right way, that, at least for me, saves time when I want to use them. As I'm used to regular archery where I put the arrows on the bow by grabbing the fletching side and putting them on in one motion.

    Shame the glove got mouldy…as a fellow archer deeply into trad archery I much prefer and thus recommend the glove! 😂
    But nice improvisation! 👍
    Also for future builds I’ll recommend a chest guard as a piece of actually functional armour that keeps all the folds etc down so the string won’t catch on the clothing.

    • @MarisArmoury
      @MarisArmoury  Před 8 měsíci

      I later found out the half-finger gloves I wear with the costume also work pretty well instead of the archery tab! And are easier to wear the entire time, so I don't have to slip them on when combat is starting.
      As for armour.. you are in luck, I actually made a leather one quite soon afterwards, got some videos up about that as well :)

    If you had ever done any archery for real, you would know how impractical this outfit is. Archers wear much more closely fitting garb, especially around the arms

    • @MarisArmoury
      @MarisArmoury  Před 11 měsíci

      Thanks for the tips! I have actually done archery for quite a few years, with whatever loose fitting things I was wearing at the time. And in the two years I have this costume I have never had any issue with the arrows. But I guess I'll change it all up now!
