  • From El Hierro I sail 836 NM to Mindelo, Cape Verde in 7,5 days. It feels like I am on the trade winds. I have a very good speed. At the end 6 to 6,5 even sometimes over 7 knots. And I have to slow the boat down, to prevent from arriving in the middle of the night.

Good tip on making the Windpilot vane more upright in the light stuff. While watching this I was thinking it would be a good idea to pole out the headsail. No doubt you've worked out a solution to this by now as I am a few months behind in my viewing, but apart from making the boat sail a lot more efficiently (and safer) downwind it will save a hell of a lot of wear and tear on your sail. If your spinnaker pole is too heavy a lighter and slightly shorter whisker pole might be a solution. Cheers.

Very nice. Thoughts. Yesterday I was on my boat and playing with the new mainsail reefing it in combination with the topping lift really worked well to make the reffing system work well. I will be adding a Cunningham to help pull the main down. My sequence was releasing the tension on the vang then lowering to the cringle Add some tension and cleat the main halyard then adjust the topping lift to raise the boom to meet the leech. then the reefing lines pulled the sail right down to the boom Much simpler and neater. then tighten the vang. I am experimenting with a boom brake instead of the preventer. So far I'm very satisfied. I also lead my jib sheets to the outer track . I'm on San Francisco Bay Yesterday was perfect winds 15 with some gusts to 28 I tried some Jibes to test the boom brake. again very satisfied the boom just slowly rolled across with no drama. Moondancer Ericson 38 . I'm using a climbing rig for the boom brake.

Predict wind is clever. It uses lots of data to create the route. If you wish to reduce the file size then make the resolution of the grib less. This will not reduce the route accuracy. Try to keep the route till finish as it will keep you out of trouble in case a real storm is coming.

Weer een leuk reisverslag, Happy person on the boat 😃. Lekkere douche, is het water "warm" of "koud". En hoe doe je de was van je kleding, opsparen voor de volgende haven? Safe trip to your next destination.

Dank je Linda. Het water is lekker warm. De was spaar ik inderdaad op tot de volgende haven. Leuk trouwens jouw vragen!

Perhaps a whisker pole is all you need to control the genoa and stop the sail returning over the centre line as the boat rolls. A whisker pole is a very light pole which does not need any rigging.

I like your dress and prefer the bikini to the swimming costume. Im sure you have adapted some system to get the salt out of your hair. Brrrr,,,the cold water does not bother you.
