    Part 02 - • Johnny Depp & Lawrence...
    Video by Black Chalk Productions
Join Golden Globe winner and renowned actor, producer, author and musician Johnny Depp and Origins Project director Lawrence Krauss for An Origins Project Dialogue, Finding the Creativity in Madness.
This dialogue is associated with a closed scientific workshop in partnership with the National Institutes of Health held to spark discussions of big, unanswered questions on how the brain and machines process patterns, aimed at understanding consciousness, intelligence, and madness.
This on stage discussion focuses on the humanity of madness, revealing Depp's experience and creative method as an actor who has portrayed such eccentric fictional and nonfictional characters as Edward Scissorhands, Hunter S. Thompson, Captain Jack Sparrow, and John Wilmot, Second Earl of Rochester while exploring and unraveling the intricate links between creativity and madness.

The fact that Johnny Depp spent $3 million giving Hunter a proper sendoff by shooting his ashes out of a giant cannon, and honoring his friends wishes, back in 2005, make Depp cool with me forever, no matter what.

Surprisingly, the people that worked at and patroned that place were even more snooty and pretentious than the people at most of the places up in Aspen if you can actually believe it. @Nedd Flanders Johnny Depp was present at Hunter's private funeral, along with Bill Murray, Jack Nicholson, Sean Penn, Senators John Kerry and George McGovern. There's a really important dynamic that needs to exist in order for an interview to work well. Famous TV interviewers often say that the key is listening, but it's more than that. The interviewee has to be willing to talk in the first place, which is why TV interviews so often seem clunky. Usually the guest is there purely because they are promoting a product, often after weeks of similar appearances and junkets. But in a situation like this, you know that Lawrence has an immediate head start because they are there to talk and listen and learn and enjoy. They have time and inclination to let it unfold.

A lot of armchair quarterbacks ripping on Johnny here but overall I think he deserves some credit. If you know anything about him his family moved something like 15 times when he was a kid, and I don't think his dad was ever much of a part in his life, which is tough when you are a boy. He comes out to Hollywood in the very early 80s with his band and meets Nick Cage (Who's real name is Nick Coppola), who gets him into acting. Has a part in Nightmare On Elm Street in 84' then Platoon in 86' then hits it huge with 21 Jump Street then to the top from there. What I'm getting at is for a guy with humble beginnings he's an awesome A list actor who was superb in every role I've ever seen him in, and he's also true to his beliefs and turned down stuff that didn't have substance. He's also damn likable, and not full of himself and that is why Hunter, Brando, and others who normally didn't get close to many ppl liked Johnny Depp. Too many ppl are too quick to judge!

Having read a few books, I couldn’t help but hear jonny depp in my mind as though he was reading it to me. Kind of exactly how you phrased it, that was after seeing the movie first. It kind of makes me wonder how it would have felt to read the books first instead. Hells Angels and The Proud Highway which was absolutely hilarious in parts. Rip HST

@@marcusjones2517 I know plenty about Johnny Depp. He is very down to earth and humble. We’re talking about a guy who bought a club so that young celebrities could go out and be themselves without being harassed not so he could make money. We’re talking about a guy who paid for the defense of wrongly convicted men who were convicted on the sole basis that they were different. We are talking about a guy who goes to hospitals dressed as Jack Sparrow just to cheer up sick children. A guy who said quote “you’ll never have to wait tables again.” To his mom as he paid for her to live. A guy who destroyed his own billboard because he didn’t like that he was holding a gun on it. He isn’t arrogant and nobody who knows him has one awful thing to say about him, aside from his abusive ex wife.

I like how when talking about Hunter is Anxiety is not really there, where as if he speaks about himself it very much is, fantastic dude, fucking bat shit insane to some degree but I think Robin williams had it right saying "You're only given a little spark of madness. You mustn't lose it." Depp aint lost his, he puts it into the characters he plays and the way he is when out of highly social situations, this guy is without a doubt one of the better actors there has ever been. (was tempted to make a Pirates reference but opted not to), also for the record Anxiety sucks, there is a reason I spend most of my days avoiding people where possible.

Honestly there was one journalist who out Gonzoed Hunter Thompson without trying to. That was Michael Herr who became addicted to being in the field on patrol with Marine platoons in Vietnam when he was on assignment for a famous magazine in the mid late 60s. He just kept going back. He was in Ka Sonn when the Tet offensive happened. All the craziest scenes from Apocalypse Now are lifted from Dispatches.
