They really gotta work on easy access to screws and sealants. Nightmare trying to find a place that has it on hand. 🤦♂
I use quikrete non sag polymer sealant. Glad the price of the go board sealant and readily available. It’s listed on go board website as acceptable substitute for their sealant but it does void warranty.
I want to know how to pain this boards i use them in ceilings
Glad to see a video on this. I was going to use the backerboard screws but was able to these on Ebay of all places, I had to get the contractor box (5lb) So I guess I have enough if everyone on my block decides to renovate their bathrooms as well. I do not know if JM has a social media person that monitors the page but if so, Why is this stuff so hard to find? I had to drive to Cheyenne to find the GoBoard at Menards. The other big box stores and tile stores do not carry it. I have two more bathrooms that will eventually need to be renovated and it would be nice not to have to drive 200+ miles RT for GoBoard.
Hi Steve, thank you for your comments and your question. GoBoard distribution is always growing. It's really a matter of distributors deciding to bring the product line into their stores or not. Squeaky wheels get the oil, so when a contractor or remodel customer inquires or asks for it - that usually helps the distributor determine if the demand for GoBoard is strong enough for them to carry it.
@@johnsmanvillegoboard If only that truly worked with the Big box stores. Example Certainteed has their manufacturing plant 40 miles from where I live yet their product STONEFAÇADE that is made in that plant can not be sourced locally. Neither of those two different named box stores carry GoBoard Either I have inquired at both. I am on hold until I can source the material for both of my restrooms and my kitchen remodel. Hopefully Johns Manville will strike a deal with those box stores or other large distributors and I will be able to get their GoBoard Product.
Yea. I got my goboard at Menards BUT they dont sell the screws to fasten the board! What a PITA.
Yep, same here at the closest Menards near Morgantown WV. Drove a couple hours to get it ~ $20/sheet. The local Lowe's sells it for that...if you buy an entire pallet of 60 sheets and when you're a DIYer and only need 6-7, well, that doesn't work for to well. Something's really weird here regardless. So yeah, now I'm looking for the screws, weird, NFS anyway. Even shippers charge the $50-60 price. Anyway, I'd like to do it "right" but at least he shows us the backerboard screw distance.
You should have a longer version of the GoBoard fasteners for those cases where a think stud shim had to ve used to level it.
Thank you for your comment! We also have 1 5/8” Fasteners available. Ask your supplier to bring them in for you.
Man ... I really like all these products but it has been so hard to get them around Corona CA .. it's a little bit frustrating... But it worth it when I finish my projects
Sorry you're having struggles sourcing these. We do have approved alternatives listed in our technical data sheet, and you can use our partner locator to help you find sources for the accessories. enter you zip code, then select GoBoard Accessories in the search criteria: www.jm.com/en/insulation-locator/
I'm a tile installer in San Diego county area, I like go board Lowe's in San Clemente CA sells. I hope that helps you a bit it's a great product.
Love the product but the fasteners are a pain to locate. Our local Lowe's sell the boards but no sealant, tape, or screws. Ended up having to use the Durabase Backer Board Screws/washers when I couldn't locate the screws anywhere.
I purchased mine at ContractorsDirect
So you do not need an extra vapor barrier behind the Goboard if it is for a tub or shower surround, only if it is for a steam shower?
Correct.
I have metal framing. Are go-board fasteners going to work ok with this?
You can use GoBoard Fasteners for metal studs. Basically self-tapping/self-drilling screws. Here's a link to what you're looking for: jm.showpad.com/share/bjCCYar0iZl4QidIVMtlh
What type of thinset do you recommend for this product?
Dry set mortar compliant with ANSI A118.1, or polymer modified thinset compliant with ANSI A118.4
Just bought 8 sheets at my local Lowes. Why dont they sell the screws or sealant?
Lowes sells traditional backer board screws - which we approve for use with 6" spacing (without washers). There's a rumor that Lowes may begin carrying GoBoard Pro Sealant. We sure hope so!
Taken a section of shower apart for tile change, I used goboard, screws, goboard juice over my screws and even some ardex 8+9 from my pan overlapped, yet when I cut out a piece of board, the screws had some rust? maybe a year and a half old, whats the deal? @Johns Manville GoBoard
The GoBoard Fasteners are non-corrosive - but if you're willing to send us those fasteners so we can look at them that would be greatly appreciated!
I’ve bought the the goboards but I can not find the goboards screws or sealant anywhere. So here I sit in limbo
Where are you located?

@@tracyblack9983 Try West Florida Distributors, or Tile Outlets of America. You can also check our Partner Locator. Be sure to check mark "GoBoard" in the filters: www.jm.com/en/insulation-locator/
I like the Goboard but cant find anyone that sells the screws in the Kansas city area. I can only find them in boxes of 700 for $45 on Ebay. What a pain. Has anyone used Kerdiboard screws with their special washer in GoBoard?
Sorry you're having struggles sourcing the fasteners. Have you tried a zip code search on our partner locator? www.jm.com/en/insulation-locator/
@@johnsmanvillegoboard yes. That is how I found the GoBoard sheets at the only retailer listed on the JM search tool. Menards Home Center sells the goboard but they absolutely do not sell the special fasteners. Three employees including the department head searched their stock and computers without success. JM would sell more of the Go Board if retailers understood that specific fasteners are needed and stocked them. This is apparently a wide spread problem since I saw several message board posts on the web with customers having the exact problem as I had. Kerdi board has been in short supply for months. To bad JM hasn't been able to capitalize on the market needs when their leading competitor van supply the market.
Use a pencil and a level to mark a line where the studs are. That way you wont miss the studs. I see 2 missed screw holes at the 3:00 mark in the 2 row from the bottom; right about the word "showers".
Thanks for the comments! =)
Isn't your pan supposed to go in first with a liner
No liner required. Just a level subfloor. Walls are installed first, then pan.
I always got the impression that if you puncture ( screws or nails or anything) you defeat the waterproofing purpose; How many people have use this Goboard and put screws through it and had it stand up for any length of time.? How long has this product been on the market?
GoBoard has been on the market since 2014. Apply GoBoard Pro Sealant to the fastener penetrations for an ANSI A118.10 compliant, waterproofing, and tile-able substrate.
Too bad the screws are never available at the stores
If your current supplier is a JM customer, they can order the fasteners.
Looks like you need to get some better driver tools
Go board shit product to soft when you instale big tile dansheild all the time
Thank you for your feedback.
It's very dense and strong. Large tiles should work fine. If you're using small tiles you may want to increase your studs to 12" oc. This will take away any flex when pushed on. It's light weight, Waterproof, easy to cut. Loved working with it. See my other comment about fasteners.
Using a cheap drill that’s brand new just tells me that you dont do this often and don’t have tools to do the job. Use an impact gun ypu will have better results and less time putting screws in
Goboard panels are soft and the impact gun is too powerful, it drives screws right through them. A drill has an adjustable torque, giving you much more control when installing the panels.
An impact drill is not necessary.
