  • Situated on the US/Canadian border, Lubec Maine is the Easternmost village in the contiguous US. With it's rich history, charming coastal setting, and rugged natural beauty, it's a very quiet and laid back alternative to Acadia National Park.
We spent a week exploring the area and we were honestly sad to leave. A little piece of our hearts were left in Lubec, and we can't wait to go back!

Great Video! John P McCurdy was one of my Dad's best friends when we grew up in West Lubec. My dad had a chicken laying business in Washington County subcontracting locals to run about 10 chicken houses(probably 100,000 chickens). The Canadian subsidies have pretty much driven out all the ocean commercial fishing. I guess half of the houses turned into mushroom-growing houses now. My grandfather used to own the flatland going out to Quoddy Head and raised vegetables for the Boston market. I used to dig clams in Cobscok Bay down below the old west Lubec. Downtown had a movie theater used to go to as a teenager. It was across the street from the customs entry. Winter is tough and probably why I don't live there. I occasionally visit in August about every 10 years but very few friends left there.

Great recommendations! We likely would have missed Boothead Preserve were it not for your video. So amazing! Thank you:). Klondike Mountain was better than anticipated - fun hike, great vistas, and all the fresh huckleberries we could eat! Found blueberries and raspberries, too.

I lived there when the smokehouse was operating. It gave the downtown a unique smell. Great town to visit.

Wow, this town sounds like exactly the type of place we like to visit. Looks nice and quiet. Great point that there's a lot of beauty outside of the national parks in places where we can enjoy the sights without having to compete with as many people for a spot. I love the sights you highlighted near the end of your video. That state park looks fantastic! We love frequenting state and county parks as well. They are just as beautiful and less crowded.
