  • Come Together is an FEA-curated initiative with the view to exposing a younger generation of music lovers to Indian Classical music. So rather than expect them to come to where this music normally lives, we decided to take the music to the places where this new audience typically hangs out.
Café Zoe in Parel is one such place that suited our idea perfectly, the co-owners were enthusiastic and coupled with the fabulous F&B to be found there, we were sold. This would be an experience like no other this city has seen.
The first in this series features the young and very talented Abhishek Borkar on sarod accompanied by the very in-demand Ojas Adhiya on tabla. Without diluting or compromising the purity of the genre, we found the audience to be very receptive and responding very favourably to the music and the artistes.
Here’s the first video from this series.

Best among the sarod players in India. Holds great promise to reach the top on the table

Nothing can be more aesthetic than the presentation of most promising Abhishek. Touching the heart with Jhinjoti very gently soberly with all its flavours takes to eternal space. His fine control and sense of limit is unparallel, Gradual forward approach 'bahrat' is very much praiseworthy. The accompanying tabla player is also perfectly matching , very innovative.
We want to listen them many many times in future. We want them in Kolkata among large pool of classical listeners. Who says, we are lacking the new generation of talented and devoted artists to come up? No they will certainly uphold the indian tradition of hindustani classical music far. Regards to their sadhana and practice.

Such fresh, clean playing and interpretation of the raag from both artists. Interesting to see a recording in this setting, too.

I had the privilege of listening to shri abhishek ji live at msu. Baroda some years ago. He played a splendid jhinjhoti then too. But this rendition is very different and fresh. Tabla player is excellent. Mannerism seems to be inspired from ustad zakir Saab.

The performance is artistic brilliance. Outstanding in every respect. My ears enjoyed every note. My eyes however had to once again endure the frustrated twiddlings of a video director hell bent on getting in on the act. Desperate for leaving his / her mark on the performance, random camera shots, split screen jumps, zoom close ups of the nose hairs and in your face attention grabbing camera theatrics fought valiantly to share the stage but instead really took away from the overall presentation. If those in charge of such presentations are actually reading this, please pass on to the video crew and director to set up the cameras, lights, mics, etc. and just leave it all alone once the performance starts. PLEASE ! ! !

For what it's worth, I think there's some value in experimenting with video editing when presenting Indian classical music on CZcams for the millions who, alas, couldn't be there to hear this great music in person. A fresh and novel approach to the video edit seems to fit with the 'Come Together' ethos of exposing this genre of music to a newer and younger generation. It fits with the casual clothes the artists are wearing, as well as the quirky props in the background, and I for one would be happy to see more like this.

I believe that you are here for the music. It doesn't matter if the video doesn't suit your expectations. You can enjoy this exceptional music by the two great musicians... Even eyes kept closed

Very nice, but I wish the alap and jod were a bit more leisurely and extended. Great talent!
