Hi James, I run a multi million pound chemical business, first time commenting on your videos, watch quite a few, this one resonated with me. Namely the loneliness; you aren't one of the staff who can have a moan and whinge at the management (i.e. you), you can't talk to family or friends who quite predictably don't have the experience of being at the helm and the world of big business that a lot of others exist in, in whatever capacity, is a different universe altogether. I often remark the hotseat looks very appealing until you sit in it, and not just for a day, but for year after year. I wouldn't trade it for the world incidentally but its not easy, people may look enviously at the lifestyle yet have no idea of the sacrifices to build it, and being so time poor you often can't even enjoy it.
Watching your videos is as much to trying to not feel so alone, as I can see through your great content we all face the same trials and tribulations. Keep it up, best of luck in 2024 across your businesses.

I'm 36 and have been selling online since I was aged around 12, first big purchase was a pallet of remote controlled helicopters to sell on a website I built whilst at school. 24 years later and I'm a week away from moving into 2 warehouses and I could not be more excited. Bigger deliveries, better systems, bigger numbers. I think it almost becomes an addiction. I don't think I will ever be able to switch of from selling things. Not for the next 25-30 years anyway! Wishing everyone a healthy and successful 2024!

One of your realest videos ever. My company also sells on third party platforms like ebay & it occurred to me recently that they promote businesses that have solid infrastructure that they can rely on to deliver.
These companies have faith in you to show up fully, always! And that can be a lot.
I do so much to ensure my customers can rely on me, that I deliver a good service always- & that level of constant responsibility & always SHOWING UP FULLY can be difficult at times. There is always a lot on your shoulders. You always have to deliver.

James you’ve done really well in life and no doubt have enough to retire with a great rental income on the properties you own. Do you ever think of slowing it down and helping the less fortunate in other countries?
I’ve been self employed since 2017 and I’ve come to that stage where the worldly things do not interest me. I’ve never took finance or loans and I’m just happy to live a life where I’m not under orders or in a toxic environment.
My only goal I’m trying to achieve is to sponsor 100 orphans a year through a non profitable organisation which is looking to cost around 30-40k.
I’ve still got a long way to go but God willing will get there one day

I have a great idea for an iPhone case design if you would be interested James, easy enough to describe over an email or quick call if you would entertain it mate.
Sat on it for a year thinking I would get to it once i got my funds up and don’t really know any other serious business people to be honest. Think it would do well especially in todays social climate, probably patentable as well.
Could easily sell it for £40, target production cost of £11/12 max, cheaper if you have connections

The bottom line is once you are past 5M in sales and have a team, the world becomes a very lonely place in business and socially. The amount of responsibility coupled with going to a social events and people talking about things that seems so trivial to you makes you more focused on your business and more removed from social society. I think past 20M, for those of us who never worked at a big shop, it may be time to hire a CEO or a COO who comes from big business to guide us because we have no experience running a company that size and getting it to the 50M mark. The big milestones in our business lives are 100k, 1M, 5M, 7.5M, 10M, 20M, 25M, and am I not sure about the rest because I cant seem to get there.

It's all a bit self indulgent. There's many jobs that are lonely, being a window cleaner is lonely. Most management jobs these days are lonely. Managers often have a boss above them that likes the sound of their own voice, is dismissive of their concerns and wants to surround themselves with yes men. They often have vultures literally circling in the wings waiting to move in on any opportunity. They often possess talent that isn't developed because their boss doesn't want them doing anything else other than what they're doing. They're often the hidden hand of many organisations silently navigating them out of trouble (and yes sometimes the reverse.) They also have to deal with the day to day management of people which is often a multi-layered role of motivator, enforcer, trainer, life coach, the list is endless. Success and failure are strange phenomenons, you can be very successful despite getting a lot wrong, then can fail despite getting a lot right. I'm interested to see how this Frenchman does at Morrisons.
