- Charles Reid is an American artist with a worldwide reputation. His precise use of clean and vibrant colour creates a loose style of painting with a fresh and spontaneous look. The film centres around figures painted in the studio and gives the viewer an insight into Charles's philosophy as well as his practical approach to painting. He chooses contrasting figures, starting with two poses of a young woman, followed by one of an older, bearded man.
RIP Charles, there will never be another painter and teacher quite like you.
I have almost all of Charles Reid videos. He is my favourite watercolor artist. Amazing how he constructs shapes, values, shadows and cast shadows. His brush work is uncommon.
It is always a joy to watch Charles paint. His DVDs are always of the highest quality and this one is no exception. The DVDs bring his books to life and they give additional insight to his approach. In this DVD Charles paints three portraits - two of a young woman and one of an older man. The results are impressive and the painting process is fasinating.

It must take years and years of practice to know how to handle the brush and how not to use too much water so you're not dripping off of the paper. Wow!
