I'm a doctor and actually feel that growing, loving and seeing plants is one of the most powerful antidepressants there is.
I agree. It makes me feel so good.
It's certainly helps me through the winters in Canada when I can't be outside in my garden!
@veronica Al.......So very true.
I have suffered various mental health conditions and I wholeheartedly agree.
Doc said what she said!
Most enabling episode ever.
No more room for plants.
Summer Rayne Oakes: Hold my beer.
There's still a couple square inches of ceiling in a dark corner?
Summer: Dry wall anchors, rope, suspended pots, dracenas, ZZs. Go.
No more window sill? Build another, you coward.
LOL!
Hahaha love this
uuuhh Alex so funny!!! @pandoras__hope
It started with one succulent, and now I own a jungle. đ€ They bring me so much joy and peace.
"Horizontal spaces are usually the first places that fill up. And pretty soon you will be start looking at your walls."
Me: *looking at my walls while Kill Bill sirens plays in the background*
My man heard this, and said for goodness sakes turn that off now. đ
Jossy White Tell him never. My husband was like that but now...... heâs helping me buy, repot, trim, and water my plants. He loves it. I only have around 400 or so. All on the front and back patios.
Tell him better plants than cats and dogs. If you have them too... I don't know, you are on your own lol
I just laughed so loud đ
I feel like that how my boyfriend feels but he doesn't say anything đ
Enabler!đ€Łđ Iâm glad my husband is still asleep as I watch thisđ
I started giggling and he asked me why. So I played him the "if you live with a person..." part loud and he had to laugh so hard. But then he got worried that I will actually find place for more đđđ
Where thereâs a will, thereâs a way!
Gisfor Gangsta oh my I thought the same thingđ
HAhaha. I like that he has a sense of humor. And then reality set in... hehe.
@@riawhetstone3725 or, where there's a will, there's a wall!
I am so happy that my boyfriend is loving plants just as much as me so he tolerates my craziness, he even encourages me hahah :)
Mine as well, feel blessed
i saw the title and was like THANK YOU FOR SAVING MY LIFE
My boyfriend passed his plant obsession onto me, and now "plant stuff" is a huge part of our relationship. I've had to help him organize his place so many times bc it starts to look overrun by plants, but once we move things around, we always find more empty spaces that definitely need plants in them lol. Floor to ceiling baby!!
Wow! đ€©
I just had my husband install a 72" long iron gas pipe with 2 90 degree elbows, two 6" nipples attached to two floor flanges that attached to beams in front of one of my windows. It looks awesome and my plants love hanging out there.
That sounds beautiful!
I would love to do add the horizontal plants in my house, just need to figure out what to do with the husband?.
Replace him with plants đ
Overwater him?
@@chrish5608 Ye mean drown..
Lmao...that's funny.....dont know what to do with the husband...lol
I converted a small antique China hutch by replacing the upper backing with plexiglass that I vented slightly and sealing the interior portion. Placed it in front of the window giving me more space, storage for plant things, and I now have a little greenhouse set up for plants that are rehabbing and/or need the 65-75% humidity it now affords me in that room.
Yep, on my printer, in front of my TV, on my speaker behind my TV, Took down my books from book shelf and gave it to plants, But actually, all in all, acquiring plants really helped me get organized and get rid of some junk I did not need.
"In order to be able to" is my favorite phrase of all time at this point.
i like to really fill a sentence with words!
Summer Rayne Oakes shows high IQđ§
Try fitting a clear acrylic shelf In your window. Maximise light! Xxx
I built a shelf just for my plants and my family thought I was so extra đđ just the other day my neighbor was throwing away a tall shoe rack and I asked if I could have it so I can put my small plants. I need to build another shelf for my medium size plants. This was such a great video! I canât wait to try some of these đ€
So glad I live alone so no hassle from a partner. Those that have partners that understand are really blessed.
I've set metal coatracks in front of my living room windows. They have three shelves for plants and then the hooks and top bar which I hang plants from. I can also hang a light to supplement lighting. I get them from Amazon for around $50.00 or less.
Barbara Lindberg sadly I have a spouse that is not supportive of my plant habit. But I donât let it stop me. Like all of us here, plants make us happy đ
I love the metal coatrack idea. Thanks for sharing Barbara!
Do you buy any chance have a link or know the name of the racks? That sounds like what I've been looking for. Thanks
I just wondering why the heck you still livibg with your partner supouse? Why dont live appart?
Why the heck living with a partner? They just shpuld get an own appartment. Why the heck did you live with a person who dont like the thinks you do?
I stopped this video right at the part that when you said you would help find space for more plants... I rewinded and then told Ernie that I had something important to tell him and he stopped what he was doing, I showed him the first 60 seconds of your video and he asked me to leave LOL!! He knows that more plants are coming and I still don't have as many plants that he has tools. That's his thang and plants are mine. Thank you for the video. By the way, I like that idea of a double window sill.
I won't get tired to say "I love your house". Since I saw yours home tour videos I wanted a house like yours. I had few plant and I have increased the amount of them all over my place and I am so happy, I like my house so much more. Thank your for all your knowledge. Regards from MĂ©xico.
I love all of these ideas. My husband, for Valentine's Day, made me clear floating shelves in a large East window that gets lovely sun. I have more space for plants now and the bookshelf next to it still gets great sun since the shelves are clear. We are going to do this in more windows.
I love the tension rod hanging method but Iâd be terrified to actually put it into practice because Iâd essentially be waiting for the day theyâd fall.
You definitely have to make sure you get the right ones to hold the weight. I have two 50 lb ones on each end.
I bought a clothing/garment rack to hang plants on! Thereâs even a shoe shelf at the bottom to sit plants on. I saw the idea on Pinterest and loved it!!
Great idea! Thanks for sharing :)
Kara Osborne Same! Itâs so Amazing!
Just to share, I tried vertical gardening in one of the well lit walls of my space by upcycling old fridge shelves/grills so I can mount wall pots. đ
Nice DIY!
Ohh that's really smart and because they are plastic, not wood you won't have to worry about warping or rotting from moisture.
Thank you for encouragement to adapt more children!! I just started hugging a lot of small plants and planning make a shelf with glow light!! I hope my babies are happy together đđŒâ„ïž
Haha thatâs nuts (immediately getting rails, trellis etc) đ
I just can't restraint myself from seeing your videos đ„°
I turned my fireplace hearth and mantle into my main plant display. I live in Florida so I don't ever need to use the fire place anyway. I mounted 2 grow lights from the mantle and have a humidifier on the hearth. Any plant I put there, thrives! Guests seem just as enchanted by the display as I am! It's my jungle place!
That's wonderful!
I have something very similar but struggling to make the grow lights work nicely...I would love to see how yours looks..
Next on my list to make more space for plants is to buy a bed frame made for a canopy! They can be pricey but I am waiting for a good sale. Buying one that can hold lots of weight is best . Set it to hang plants over your bed or put it anywhere else in your home granted it is tall enough to walk under if needed. Loved this thank you for all the tips! Pretty new plant lady here.
The Novogratz one from Walmart is very pretty and surprisingly strong!!!
I pictured it in my head and it felt so serene. I am seriously thinking of building one!
How will I water the plants though? The dripping water will soil the bed, don't you think?
@@Adoubless thank you I've been looking for one like that!
@@MonicaGurnani I would most likely take them down and water them in the shower or sink. Pick plants that don't need a lot of watering! I do plan on hanging an asparagus fern near the foot of the bed.
Which will need more watering but I'm thinking if I get lazy and pour the water, at least it would only get the foot of the bed wet haha! I ordered a few pothos, philodendron, and some hanging succulents. I have a Wes facing window to the right of the foot of the bed and a north facing window the the left of the head.
This video should be titled Plant Hoarding 101đđ€Ł Anyone else leave plants in the car so you can sneak outside at night and bring them in without being noticed?đŹđđ
Holy shit yes!!!! At this very Moment!!!!
All the time!!! In the car, office, that place she never goes to, etc...
Oh yes! Glad to know that Iâm not the only one.
đ
Yes me my kids roll there eyes catching me đłđ
I like the hang-a-pot thingies, I'll look up if they've got those on my country. Atm I mostly just nail macrames to the walls, but I can only use small nursery pots because I don't really trust the material of the wall ( neither do I trust the ceiling. The house was build during the hyperinflation crisis in 1923đ ).
A lot of shelves don't work for my space since my walls are round not straight and standing shelves means there will be a lot of unused space at the back of the shelves.
So...yeAh not enough space is an issue. Right now I am slowly taking over other parts of the house until someone puts a stop on it. Haha
As someone that has a very small amount of space for the plants I wanna get and already have these tips are really good to help me figure out new ways to incorporate plants in my space. :)
Glad to hear!
I bought a set of those cube grid wire organizers and set it up in front of a window. The thing is now FULL of plants, so much that the plants on the inner side are stretching out to the light, which meant I had to install LED lights. With so much light, I plan on updating the furniture to add shelves on top. Note that this space is a 2m x 3m little nook formerly known as my home office.
Great idea! Thank you for sharing.
As a hobby artist why have I never noticed your artworks until now! đ distracted by the plants obviously đ hope you're staying safe Summer :) sending love from wales uk.
Love the pot hanger...
I would like to say, Thank you!. You have no idea how this or all of your videos helped me during this pandemic effect of the virus. I am depressed but watching these videos is my output and able to redeem myself and start having indoor plants. Again, profoundly grateful.
Thanks Ms. Summers for your tips on how to find space at home for plants.đ
I would love to see a video on how to DYI the double windowsill. Yep, that would work best in.my space. Am excited!! Pleeeeease do one. (Love the shelf behind the stove too. Just wish mine was near more light.) Take care.đ±đđ±
"OMG... I can't believe you came home with another plant"
The story of my life...
I have a friend, her mother and live in maid are both crazy about plants and she was saying how crazy it is living with them, as they want to fill up everything they find is empty, or can be used as a planter or hanger, with either a propagated plant or a new one, they get home, or fill in every empty space on the wall with a pot!:D it had me laughing as I am one of those!:D
Hanging plant hook pulleys have made watering hanging plants a breeze without ladders! Cheers all!
Love that idea. Thanks for sharing!
@@summerrayneoakes I let my daughter decorate them all to her hearts delight. Some of them are covered in glitter, others w My Little Pony stickers and gotta have glow in the dark stars! I'm encouraging her involvement in my gardening and she's got a seedling box now! Cheers!
Where do you buy your plant pulleys?
Already doing most of this. My windows all have several shelves with plants. Now to start using the ceiling. Lol!
If you're able or allowed to, I actually bought some 7 dollar shelves from home depot and have those in the wall that hold about 15lbs each for their size and look really nice and clean as well. I also bought a bookcase from Ikea, and the bottom half has the door covers where I store misc stuff, while the top half has shelving in with some grow lights taped to the underside of the shelves and works well for all my succulents. I'm living out of one room right now and have a LOT of plants for my room, so vertical space is crucial for me already, and if it has bonus storage space, even better lol.
I had to come back and watch this video again because I love your content so much! Especially when you show things in your home, such an inspiration đ„°
As long as there are open and empty areas on the floor and walls, there are still room fore more plants.
You just have to figure out how to plant, pott and fit them there.
Great job on maximizing and optimizing the use of your space ! đđ
Omg, the double windowsill is genius, and so pretty!
I love this!! My window sills are very narrow so my dad built me a huge extension for the sill on my SW window đ„°
I love how the plants allow you to share their space with you, its so sweet! (big smiles)
I always worry that I will run out of space for any new plant I bring home. I have made extra window sills on every window that I have in my house, I have also hung many plants from the ceiling, I have just recently thought about hanging some on the walls, but I am running out of wall space as well. I just recently put a shelf above my bed that will hold a lot of plants and that makes me super happy. I guess if I plan on getting more plants I will have to get some more grow lights to hang in the interior of my home so I can put more plants in those spaces. Thanks so much Summer for a lot of great ideas that I didn't think of and now I have more ideas to try out. You can never have too many plants, they just make me happy. Have a great day, stay safe and healthy, sending love and hugs, bye for now.
I love watching your videos. I jumped into too many plants, felt too confined and cluttered, so I gave many away. Now I really notice the structure and beauty of the ones I kept. Guess I am not a jungle person, except for my little mud room. Thatâs a jungle using iron wall rings for pothos and a shelf of hoyas, but the other rooms only have a few beauties each.
It's totally important to know your limits of what makes sense for you. It's different for everyone and for every space!
How about moving to a bigger home, like a big glass dome! lol!
You mean a green house? đĄ đ
"Gardens by the ba(y)nkruptcy"
Canadian Infidel I live in a fish bowl basically 13 sliders m 13 sky lights and all windows .. Problem is NO WALLS !! Ugh its horrible
I love your sink. Such a great place to water plants.
I see your enabling ways Summer Rayne, love it. Def getting me some hang a pot
I just bought 3 basket to hang on my wall. Love the look of it and perfect when you live in a one room apartment like me :)
I love the concept of the flat wall baskets ... I'm sure I have some of those around.
I used a clothing rack to hang plants on. I added a grow light and it has a bottom shelf. It also has hooks on the side that I added prop test tubes to
Interesting, thank you!! I'm currently looking for more ways to fit a gazillion little and bigger pots in our veranda and balcony, while still being able to fit the furniture, so we can actually spend time and enjoy all the greenery.
Stay safe and have a wonderful day!! âșïž
Oh my God! I have been looking for this for years! Maybe I can have my bed back....
đđ your plants are on your bed?? đ€đ€
I like the LED light above the stove idea. đ±đđ±
Hi Summerđ€...great ideas, it was nice to see around your apartment, it's so amazing! Thanks and see ya đđŒ
Just adding another option to the double window sill space. Iâve actually created a plant curtain. đđ
That sounds fantastic! What did you use to make your curtain?
I use the hang a pots. Love them. They allowed me three new plants. Yeah!âș
nice little plant tour of you horde lulz thanks. i really like the double window thing. those old nyc building have huge windows. hope you and your plants/family are all doing well in these crazy times.
I think with the new condos, they have those floor to ceiling windows, but typically they 1.) have some type of sun blocking elements to them and 2.) don't open, so I'm grateful I have these "old school" windows. And doing as well as can be....Stay safe Mike!
I have installed 5in deep fitted shelves spanning the 'dead' wall space in the alcove above my loo ~ and put mirror panels behind to gain more light. It is S/W facing so catches all the afternoon sunlight ~ ideal for the smaller specimens of my cactus collection. I find it generally more practical to have shallow (one plant deep) fitted shelves over more of my wall space, as this improves access and avoids accidents.
I adore this lighting! Mooooooood!
This was suggested on my account and it fits me so perfectly. I needed this! Iâve got 62 plants in my bedroom and was feeling frustrated with myself for running out of room and overcrowding my collection
Like the optimum use of space. An from I did and have been successful in executing some of your brilliant ideas.
Thanks đ
We love you Summer!!!!!!
Summer thank you so much for your videos and helping keeping us sane rn! Do you ever keep any of your plants in passive hydroponics? If so would you consider doing a video on it? Thank you again!
Iâm both the person who brings the plant home and the person who questions where the heck itâs goin đ„șđ
Love your content! Especially on insect warfare đ
Your plats decoration is so much unique.
The double window sill idea is great!!
My current favorite is a large rectangular kitchen pot and pan hanger I picked up at a garage sale. Had a cookie sheet that fit perfectly, so can water in place. Holds 4 hanging plants and 1 snake plant.
This was a great video.. I'm running out of room, so this was perfect timing. I'm starting to go vertical now because I have no more horizontal space.. I love the DIY Wall garden and the mason jars. The terracotta pot hanger is definitely on my list... I had no idea they made those! Thanks Sumner. It's always so great to see you!
Great info, Summer! I am learning SO much from your videos! Thank you for these.
Thank you! I need this video very much. I just ordered 10 plants (4 inch pots) and I only have one room here in my basement apartment that gets adequate light.
Is your apartment a living echo system where temps and humidity is always great because you introduced so many plants?
Or do some plants die regularly and have to be replaced?
Do you physically turn on and off all the lights in different parts of you apartment everyday or are they all on a timer like Alexa?
With so much different plant types and so many different needs, how do you keep up?
Wall baskets were a win for me đ
I love this house!!
This video came just in time. I just ordered way more plants than I planned to and now I need to figure out where they are going to go before they get here
I love these videos..and the plant tours of other plant collectors. Excellent ideas and it looks great!
I created a plant swing, similar to yours (no holes) with just some with some boards and cotton covered clothesline. It hangs from the ceiling with hooks on molly bolts. It really fills the space well.
I also have some plant hooks, usually for outdoor posts, which I hung on either side of a window. The hook fits a pole, that extends along the whole window, where I have plant hangers hanging.
Wow! Love your home and passion!
SO creative, 10/10!
Wow arrengement for your lovely greens, summer wall hangings r very beautiful
Love your art work Summer
Thank you
Love all your ideas and plants... I have a closet make over now... thanks for showing me how to do that
Love my Modsprout grow frame đŒ too!!!! A little on the expensive side, but well made and beautiful to look at đ
Love your ideas on giving space for plants đ
Thank you so much for this video. While it was not your intention, you have shown me that I don't need more plants (well maybe just a few).
hi Summer, I really like the rod idea, I'm going to see how I can do that in my dining room. Thanks for the video.
Girl, you live in a jungle! I love it. Iâm getting there. Iâm grateful to have a partner who doesnât mind all the plants because back when I was single I didnât always have roommates who appreciated my love for plants. đ Who can relate?
Your window sills are nice and deep. Mine are only about 6 inches wide, but I love the double window sill idea. I wish I could do that. You have a lot of great ideas in this video. Thanks for making this video!
You're not a crazy plant lady at all LOL Love it.
I am always trying to find more space for my plants, and its amazing how we can always find space for more haha :-D thanks so much for sharing Summer XXXX
Fantastic!!! Your home is so beautiful, like a Summer Rayne ecosystem.
Ahh thank you :)
I loved this video! You happened to read my mind as Iâm running out of space currently!
Great ideas ! Thanks
super helpful, thanks!
Love this one! Thank you so so much!
