I was at an argentina restaurant in the mid 90's watching Argentina vs Brazil when the show the lineups all people from Argentina booed all but Romario when he came on the screen. They knew how deadly he was.

But on the other hand there were no referee protection in previus era.. what you think would happen if Cr7 or Messi played in that era? They would get their leg broken 4 sure... Maradona had his leg broken and deffender got yelow card 🤣... eras are different through some lens but number of games for goal records are crutial. If you play 100 games a year or 40 games a year its a big difference. Non the less it was from todays perspective easier to score in that era before.

He wasn't just generationally good, that's the class of players like Henry or Rivaldo (who are absolutely legendary on their own right). Romario was clearly above that, talent wise top 10 ever easily and at least top 15 in terms of greatest (in my list he's number 8, personally the 10 greatest players ever for me in no order are Pelé, Di Stefano, Ronaldo, CR7, Messi, Cruyff, Romario, Zico, Maradona and then at 10 I really struggle between a lot of guys, like Platini, Garrincha, Zidane, Ronaldinho, Beckembauer, Puskas and some others
