  • Episode 4 of a Suzuki SV650 revival project. In this video I talk about bringing an engine back to life that has sat for a period of time. We rotate the engine by hand and then I work on replacing the busted ignition switch.

    My sv was stolen and recovered recently, and the ingnition housing was ground into (in an attempt to get hot wire access I assume). It turns over but the spark plugs wind spark. I think there's an issue in the ignition assembly because of the damage. Any suggestions for fixing, or should I just replace ignition?

      Glad it was recovered! If the ignition is jacked id at least try that as a step one before going further. Its likely there may not be power to the ignition system but the bike can still crank. I don't have a diagram in front of me but I don't believe they have a tip over sensor or anything that may be preventing a full startup.

    Is that a gen I? I have a 2001 sv 650 and i need to replace ignition switch but I can't find the part. I think i need a 37100-19f00 but they are $200 on ebay. I read reviews that the Amazon cheap ones wires not matching. Anything you can recommend?

      I ended up buying an Amazon switch set and it worked fine I believe.

    What ignition did you buy and where did you buy it? I can only find knock offs on eBay or Amazon.

      It was an amazon set but a Suzuki part. If you want factory parts hit partzilla.com and start there. If they don't have something you can search the OEM part number.

    I know this video was a long time Ago but My sv650 is the same bit the steering lock is on is it the Same process??

    • @BrickHouseBuilds
      @BrickHouseBuilds  Před 2 lety

      The lock should just be a plunger that slides into a groove and not a dedicated hole so you should be able to unbolt and remove as normal

    WHat size of star wrench are you using for replacement of ignition switch?

    • @BrickHouseBuilds
      @BrickHouseBuilds  Před 3 lety

      Hmmm, It was a long time ago but I want to say it was a T27 specifically tamper proof.

    So I was just given a 2000 sv650 and was checking to confirm the cylinders were free… I encountered a little resistance then then I believe the bolt snapped, suggestions?

    • @BrickHouseBuilds
      @BrickHouseBuilds  Před rokem

      A little resistance? First I would drain the oil as it may be hydrolocked causing that resistance. Remove the plugs. Extract the broken bolt. Reassess

      @@BrickHouseBuilds thanks for the info! I learned it didn’t break I kinda jumped the gun that… as I was turning counter clockwise with resistance the bolt started spin and loosen. Do you know what torque I need to tighten it back to? I assume pulling the cover after oil drained is the only way to do that? Thanks again

    • @BrickHouseBuilds
      @BrickHouseBuilds  Před rokem

      Well now my first response is irrelevant. Is the engine seized or not?

    • @BRUDY722
      @BRUDY722 Před rokem

      @@BrickHouseBuildsI can get half a rotation from between where it stops clockwise then going counter clockwise before I hit a stopping point, if that makes sense

      @@BRUDY722 right, id remove the oil fill cap and smell inside to see if it smells like fuel. Rotating half way could be a bent valve unfortunately

    I have a 1998 dr200 and it doesn’t have a ignition switch because they previous owner took it off and put a different kind of switch
