At the time one of the most popular games around was called Ludo (from the latin 'I play')in the UK, so the publishers, John Waddington, decided to call it Cluedo as a nod to this game. Later, Parker Bros bought publishing rights for the US. However Ludo was known as Parcheesi there so the pun wouldn't work, hence 'Clue'! You're welcome 😃
