I’m so sorry to hear about your great loss. Losing 1000+ games while riding a bicycle is impressive but sad. I can’t figure out if you were dragging the bookshelves full of games behind you by a rope or something and maybe you just didn’t notice when the rope broke and you left them all behind or possibly you had some amazing castella like stack of games coming out of your basket and you just missed it as one by one 1000 games dropped of the stack and you never noticed. I wish there was photographical evidence of what happened but alas I think we’ll never actually know. Sad.

Also… 1000 games = billion of dollars. Like… what kind of math is that? Meanwhile recommending small cheap card games to « rebuild » their collection.

Disney Lorcana, Unfair, Foundations of Rome, Dead Reckoning and Trio. Most of these I could play solo but more importantly I can play all of these with friends, family and neighbors. All 5 have great replayability too.

The 5 games would likely be games I have in my Top X games list while also taught profusely & still enjoy (including family & friends) over the years. They (may) include Kingdomino, Azul, Cartographers, Fantasy Realms and Can't Stop.
EDIT: removing Codenames for Azul, because have to include Azul. :P

I play mostly with my family- 7 kids who are all adult now. They live close by. Most of the time, we take turns hosting different sets of them coming over. Lately, I’ve been playing mostly with a few of them (the others have gotten busy ATM). One son loves Catan and Everdell. Another loves Villianous and Citadels/Dominion, but his wife loves Bonsai/Planted/Canvas.
Another son loves the mystery games-Clue. Mystery of the Abbey, Deception-Murder in Hong Kong, Werewolf. A daughter loves Flamecraft and Wingspan… I love 7 wonders, Dixit, Codenames, Concordia. Another daughter loves Quacks and Azul. I’m not sure how I’d decide!!! (I am planning on getting Obsession and Sea Salt and paper). soonish, tho

Just played Boop for the first time with my wife at Gen Con and she loved it. We ordered it on Amazon on the way home from Gen Con and have played it every day. I think that would be in our top ten to restart a collection. Such a fun, thinky and fast game for two players with good production value.

  • @jaggyg8122

Really fun topic! I think I would want to have one or two games I love that take into account player count (including a solo), and some other games I love for different situations so I don't handcuff myself while I'm building another collection. I would want to be PLAYING while I rebuild that collection! I'd also want to retrace my Radio Flyer wagon trail before all of the board game bush bunnies take the rest away. That being said, I haven't thought about it long enough to know which of my 70ish games I'd pick. Got me thinkin'. Thanks for this.

So sad! I hope you can rebuild the collection quickly! The 5 games I would restart my collection with would be : 1) Dune Imperium Uprising 2) Dwellings of Eldervale 3) Cascadia 4) Sea Salt and Paper
And 5) Wayfarers of the South Tigris. Sure 4 of those are the top 4 in my top ten, but still. Barely missing would be Wyrmspan, JotL, Planet Unknown, and Star Wars the Deck building game.

I'm treating this as if I could only keep 10 games (five each for me and my non-gamer wife hehe) that I have in my collection currently (along with any expansions and deluxifications). We have two crossovers! In no particular order:
    1. Everdell
    2. Scythe
    3. Obsession
    4. Marvel Champions
    5. TMNT Adventures (All the Loot)
    6. Voidfall
    7. Wayfarers of the South Tigris
    8. The White Castle
    9. Tussie Mussie
    10. Tidal Blades: Heroes of the Reef
1-4 I have SO MUCH or ALL of the content for them so I want to hang onto that investment. Plus, my wife LOVES Obsession. 5 is my favourite game of all time and I have all the KS goodies for it. 6-8 are some of my favourite games that provide that crunchy euro puzzle I crave and all play excellently solo. And 9 and 10 are a couple of my wife's favourites.

    Only 5 games ? Easy !
I am, at the moment, having a 10 boardgames collection (coming from 80+ like two years ago) ( so i worked hard to reduce my possession and boardgames addiction)
coz, well... Let's be honest, you don't even have to earn more than 10 games to be happy with your life and hobby collection !
There are so many ways you can play and discover other and new games ! (friends, geeky Bar, boardgames events, renting games to the library... etc...)
And for 2 years now, i'm applying the rule of -> if a game comes in, a games goes out !
and if i had to keep only five games, this would probably goes as follows (wich is what i mainly have at the moment)
-The Game (or) Jekyll and Hyde vs Scotland yard : Fast to play cooperative boardgame that is great for holliday and travels
-FlipShips (or) Set a Match : Dexterity game for 2 or up to 4 ! Always great fun !
-Detective Club (or) Just One : Party games that Always workis good at minimum 5 players !
-Alice's Garden (or) Harmonies (or) Cascadia (or) Calico : Easy and smoothy familly (Familly + for harmonies (and ++ for Calico)
-Dune Imperium Uprising (or) Lost Ruins of Arnak : Heavier and bigger boxes eurogames while keeping the rest of the collection much lighter and easy to put out on the table !
(and to reach the 10 with more solo options : Heat / Discordia / Warp's edge / Astro Knights / Marvel Champions)
    And there it is.
    Cheers from belgium !
And don't forget : LESS IS MORE !

    Top 5 for me
    Obsession

    Project L

Any which are relatively new or easy to find, (Spiel des Jahres nominees) will be easy to find in Germany. Don't forget Germans own more board games per head of population than any other country in the world. Although they may cost a bit more than in the US. Keep the rare ones, or the ones that you absolutely have to have in your own language, just in case it's more difficult to find them in English here (I'm in Germany).

Don’t listen to what people tell you you need to do. If you’re enjoying calico, keep enjoying it. If you wanna try cascadia out, try it out - but at your own discretion. What we like might not be what you like, so take that as it is. But I’d say we both prefer calico. But I agree with the above. They really shouldn’t be compared that way. They’re likely compared (same as verdant) because they are in a similar vein of games from Flatout.

If I accidentally flushed all of my 117 games down the toilet in a sustained state of absent mindedness; I’d probably rebuild the collection with the following games:
1 Dune Imperium: because a) it’s my favourite game b) it plays really well solo & multiplayer
2 Great Western Trail New Zealand; because I love GWT, I’ve played the original and the Argentina version, but not the NZealand version, so it’d be a fresh start with a familiar and yet new version of the game.
3 RA: because it’s one of best games for pure laugh out loud fun AND it’s now a product which is stunningly beautiful to have on the table. Presumably I haven’t flushed my table down the bog as well.
4 I suppose I should throw a larger player count/ party game in there for the big family fun nights- and it’s TELESTRATIONS because it plays up to 8 and has also been the cause of much hilarity.
    5 I noticed you only wanted 5! Ok…
NEMESIS: because it’s an epic story telling machine that provides opportunity for solo/ co-op and traitor versions of the game.
