    I am crazy about my Faber Castell watercolor pencils. The colors are beautiful and I can take them anywhere without the mess of a watercolor set. Plus, the control is really good with these pencils. I've just purchased the polychromos and am excited to work with them. As a beginner, I need all of the help I can get--I hate the glop and bloom of wax pencils so I'm looking forward to exploring the possibilities of polychromo pencils.

    Thank you! Our Polychromos Color Pencils have thick 3.8mm strong leads made of high quality oil based color pigments encased in Cedar wood. The leads are secured in the barrels with our SV bonding system, so if the tip of the pencil breaks, it only breaks the lead on the tip.

    There are two types of pencils, the "Albrecht Duerer" are water soluble, whereas the "Polychromos" definitely aren't. You can mix and blend both together, and they're easy to distinguish because the non-watersoluble ones are encased in a round wooden cast , and the Albrecht Duerer in a hexagonal one. They're definitely some of the finest pencils for blending.

    Hi there, glad you enjoyed the video! We usually use Canson Papers for workshops. The sketchbook used in the video was something that the artist brought, so we aren't sure which sketchbook it is.

    Thanks for asking. Faber-Castell Polychromos are permanent and they are also water-resistant in terms of an artist doing water washes over them.

    Polychromos are great for beginners, but whenever I give people chances to try out 4 different brands, they usually pick the softer leads like Caran D'Ache Pablos, Lyras, or Prismacolors. I've been using different brands for years, but the ones with the best overall score are Faber-Castell Polychromos and Lyra Rembrandt Polycolors. Polychromos pencils have smooth, yet hard leads and Lyras have soft, creamy leads.

    @emidore Před 12 lety +3

    You're very welcome! I'll be glad to help you with any more questions. Over the years I've tried out quite a bit of different brands of colored pencils and paper. One bit of advice: Avoid the Canson Classic Cream pads when using Polychromos. It doesn't allow for much layering and is almost like coloring on the back of something like posterboard.

  • @emidore
    @emidore Před 12 lety +2

    The Strathmore 400 drawing paper pads are great for starters. The paper has a light tooth and accepts layering. Canson C a grain is also good, but has more of a medium-toothed surface which adds more textures to your colored pencil drawings. My favorites are the C a grain and Aquabee's tree-free drawing paper (which has different textures on each side of the page) for Polychromos colored pencils.

    @AnnihilatingAngel They give smoother coverage than other coloured pencil brands I've used, but they don't cover the paper 100% the same way oil paint does, for example. That's just the nature of coloured pencils. Polychromos don't work well with all kinds of paper, but they are very good when you do find the right paper. (I'd pick them over Prismas though, b/c they aren't as smudgy and they don't break every 10 seconds.) Just thought I'd give my POV because I'm not actually trying to sell them.

    Great video, very helpful. I have two questions. Most people seem to love Prismacolours, arguing they are the best, but I've always used the red boxed Faber-Castell pencils you get in the bookstore, before I learned of polychromos, so I'm inclined to stick with the brand I know.
    I'm now learning how to properly use coloured pencils and was wondering what the difference between the Faber-Castell in the red box and the polychromos are and if you would recommend them as ranking with prismacolour

    I really like the pencils and it's from a perfect quality for my comic books, but I have a serious question.
    Is there a tutorial of how to draw a ball (or something else) with the shading and the colouring with the Polychromos pencils? In the way she is drawing it?
    I tried many times to draw something like that. But then the shading looks weird, the other time the colouring is too dark, etc.
    I couldn't see and hear enough to draw a good ball

      Polychromos do move a bit with water in fact I tested all my pencils last night. Out of all the sets I have the ones that are waterproof are Prismacolor, Holbein, Derwent lightfast, Caran Dache Luminance and Pablo.
      The budget pencils all move with water some more than others.

    I have a question, most other brands that are far more popular and easier to find than this series will tell you to get replacement pencils from local stores or online websites, then when you go out and try to get one replaced, you'll stumble upon the fact they don't have the color you need, if this happens to the most common series, then I wonder how hard it must be to get this particular pencils replaced or are they not?
