- This is an updated guide for the full 1.0 release of Barotrauma. In this video we will cover the overview of the game, the campaign, submarines, classes, skills, roles, talents, loadouts and items.
The Campaign | (00:00)
This section looks at what a general campaign looks like, what the goal of doing one is, and some general setup and considerations.
Missions | (02:26)
For the missions portion of the video, we look at some of the objectives and mission types, as well as what is the purpose and reward for completing them.
Submarines | (03:52)
Discussing the submarines, we cover the different classes, tiers and general construction of what makes up a submarine in the game.
Skills and roles | (05:30)
In this section we look at what skill points can do and how to level them up. We also discuss the different roles and the use of talents.
Loadouts and items | (07:10)
The loadout and items section will go over what tools, items and weapons you should have on you as a recommendation, so that you can deal with any situation that the game throws at you.

For those beginners overwhelmed by the intense learning curve this game has, i recommend joining multiplayer first, the community is welcoming and isnt that toxic regarding new players, also, the easiest class would be security, your only job is to kill things and manager turret as well as munition crafting

Best thing I could say to any new player: Talk to your crew. If you are unsure about something or don't know what to do, ask your crew. If you want to do something specific, again, talk to your crew. Far too many new players join in public lobbies, don't want to bother anyone so they just guess what to do, cause a bunch of problems and get banned. Nearly any problem can be solved with proper communication.
I haven't found any real group to play with.

I started to play the game yesterday. One tip I can give to people who are managing the reactor is DON'T FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY PUT TWO FUEL TANKS IN AT ONCE!! I assumed that it would replace the one that was almost done, but it instead set the reactor on fire, and thus I was the first one dead on the sub.

Holy shit the steam page does *not* really communicate how much depth this game has. I thought it was like Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime meets Phasmaphobia. A more casual party game than anything else. Thanks for a great overview!

I did want to ask how viable playing campaign is with only 2 players? I don't mind if it's difficult as me and my friend enjoy that but rather if it makes it too tedious or sucks alot of fun out of the game. I've heard people say that you have to play captain and medic would that lock us of interesting mechanics/talents?
Solo or with friends are both fine. However you should follow the ship recommendations with crew sizes. I.e if it says 5-8, then you should have 2 of you + 6 bots filling the other roles. I would suggest 2-3 mechanics and engineer and maybe some security to crew the guns. You will need to use the bot radial commands to issue orders so they do the jobs you want them to do.

Is there a video guide you've made or can make that helps with crew management for solo players? Ive got the basics down for telling them to fix leaks or man certain stations. But some better guidance on say having a bot crew watch my back in a cave. Some tips and tricks kind of thing.

Hey, idk if you'll see this but this video helped out a lot, been off the game for awhile now and its like a new game. I was wondering if you could possibly make a video on more in depth things like these new beacon stations and the traps... There where some I could figure out but then there where some that I couldn't and kept dieing. Also would it be possible to show a tip on clearing a nest? My friend and I tried but we couldn't even handle 3 mudraptors before dieing. Thank you for the videos!

Any chance of doing an updated missions guide? i cant figure out scanning alien ruins
For Alien scan ruins -
You will receive 3 scanners upon the start of a mission that will be in a metal crate inside your cargo hold.
These scanners also double as a handheld sonar, so no need to take one when you have the scanner in your inventory.
You will then need to navigate to the different locations that are marked (check the scan sonar), then equip it in your hands and place it down on the wall, after the scan is complete, you need to pick it back up, scan the rest, then bring the scanner back onboard.

I have to ask, what are your thoughts on sub mods, specifically subs that other player have made and are sharing, VS vanilla Subs? As someone new should I go with a sub someone else has made or one of the vanilla subs for the campaign as a first time?
P.S I am a solo player and there is no wrong answer. By the way, this was a awesome video.
So the whole modding community really adds flare to this game. And there are some really amazing sub builders out there who have pushed the utility and usefulness of the submarines. My personal take on it is i prefer vanilla subs as it does make the game harder. Some of the subs you will see in the workshop just do everything, which does make the game easier. So i hope that makes a decision easier for you.

@@doctorj4050 As someone who enjoys the game but isn't as completely familiar with it as the video maker, as a beginner I would reccomend you try some modded subs at least initially. The Iroh is the best one, but there are others that work well too, and some are very fun for just being goofy and stupid. The vanilla subs are fine, but trying to juggle all the upgrades that are *required* to advance in the game, knowing when to save to buy a new sub, or when to upgrade your current one, some subs having blind spots on turret placement making some encounters annoyingly impossible instead of simply "difficult", it can quickly ruin the experience for you and make you not want to play anymore.
I would advise starting with a modded sub, and then using a vanilla one once you feel comfortable with the game's mechanics.

Just checked, all still working. However I had to put on stronger security measures a few months back. So your account will need a registered mobile number and 2-Factor authentication to join in. Unfortunately if you don't have these, then that's why you might get an error. Hope this helps.

Im looking to drag about 4 of my friends into a submarine with me. Im in the very early stages of learning this game so if anyone could pleaseeee drop some tips that would help me out it would be much appreciated. Im looking forward to the hilarious and stressful environment this game is going to put us in. For a 5 man crew what would you recommend us play as?
Personally I would get everything except for a mechanic. Buy a mechanic npc at an outpost and set them to automatically repair everything.
Security is easy for new players, shoot intruders, shoot turrets

Any mods that you would recommend that makes the game even harder/scarier. Something like the real sonar mod.
Some of my friends tried to play with that and they said the injuries "real sonar" caused were incurable.

Its really great with friends, so if you have 4-5 other people to play with then 200% yes! otherwise its just a casual 100% ;)

That's not the only thing the devs introduced to make even more talents obsolete. As if talent trees weren't already almost universally determined for most players in terms of which conflicting talents are worth taking...
Getting 70 rep points is far, FAR harder than levelling a character to craft an item, lmao. I think the option of getting those items through factions is cool, but I've never seen an oppurtunity to level myself up with the Honkboys or Huskies more than 1 or 2 points at a time.

haven't played this, but i can imagine subnautica players crying about how stressful the game is, while barotrauma players trying their absolute hardest to pass a level while not setting the sub on fire or injecting others with opioids

Why does everyone look so goofy and just flop around all over the place? Dealbreaker for me.
that's all part of the fun and charm of the game. when your submarine hits something full force you get chucked around like a ragdoll
I mean it looks like they walk pretty normally considered they are in a submarine on a planet which has a lower gravity than earth. I only see them flop around when they're shot or hit by something (logically)
Its a lot scarier than youd think when you know you are easy the thrash around and giant abyss creatures eat half of medbay
The ragdoll physics make up for its complexity. Once you figure things out the game is incredibly fun and challenging.
My hecking game must have realistic physics!!!
