I have a 130 slt as well and for many years I've been using a barlow for prime focus no problem. The barlow I have screws directly to the T-ring, thus it pulls the focus in a little closer.

Ooh, you've just given me some extra options, and a use for that middle tube. I was always running it prime because I couldn't get focus with the tube, but now I understand it's supposed to take an eyepiece... Thanks, been looking for a nice tutorial for this for ages!

  • @Manny_News_Blogs_Tutorials

Funny I actually sanded off about an inch of the focuser barrel just to get the DSLR closer and get it to focus, thinking the focusing tube was way too long. LoL!. Thank God I discovered this video I no longer have to so silly things with my precious telescope.

  • @tedwilliams3875
    @tedwilliams3875 Před 7 lety +8

Unfortunately not all telescopes have the 1.25 eyepiece adapter that unscrews to attach the extender tube or T-ring and you need to use the T adapter that you set aside or an extender tube with a wide 2 inch thread.
Like for example the Dobsonian I use which is the Zhumell Z8 has a 2 inch focuser with the 1.25 adapter that goes inside. However that 1.25 adapter does not unscrew to attack a T-ring or extension tube like yours does so you will need that little 1.25 adapter ring that you set aside to be screwed into the extension tube and then into your telescope 1.25 focuser. If I want to attach that extension tube or T-ring directly to my scope, I need to use a 2 inch wide adapter since my 1.25 adapter does not screw together.
Any celestron, Sky Watcher or Orion Xt series scopes comes with that type of 1.25 Adapter that unscrews to attach the camera prime. So when you watch this video, make sure your scope has that type of 1.25 focuser adapter that unscrews to attach items to it and make sure yours is not like mine witch does not unscrew but comes out leaving the 2 inch focuser threaded for attachments. :)
As for shooting prime. On most all Newtonians you need to use a barlow lens or unless the scope has a short focal length.

    That is a slick trick!
The only other way, will be to move the objective mirror forward by about two inches. Then you should not need any tricks to get prime focus. The only thing tho, you will need a two inch tube to get the eyepiece to work, or move the objective back two inches.

That is, absolutely insane like I just recently got into astrophotography had a lot of my stuff from 2 years ago just never got into it but I have been taking photos of the moon with the svbony 105 digital lense thing, and yes thing meaning idk what the hell I'm on about, but like that was the crazy main reason I wanna use a camera is to both get a full view of the moon and planets and to see stars and the nebulae as the svbony 105 doesn't let me see any stars just planets and moons which on its own is crazy but I don't nearly get the detail like that like you can see the actual depth and height of the craters that's bloody insane

Haven't had a chance to test if it holds zero, but mounts just fine and has nice clear glass. Centered vertically true to a plumb line with the crosshairs which is always a plus! It's a great czcams.com/users/postUgkxc4K63Fd5LglDMObu7-Bgapxp_ef0W8hE scope. There's no parallax adjustment or focus ring, so may be limited to 3-7x, have to see how it is on the range. Also be aware that the rings are "look through" so you can still use irons, but they are really tall if you only intend to use the optics. On a 22LR no biggie since I'm not shooting competitions or worried about a hard cheek press. Will boresight and range test, if all goes well, I'll leave it at that!

Thanks for the video tutorial, you've confirmed what I've been trying WILL work!
My question is, does the distance from the eyepiece to the sensor matter, or is all focussing done simply by focussing the scope normally?
I struggled to get an image on the camera as sharp as I could see it through the eyepiece?
Im using a skywatcher 130 / 900 telescope. I tried running my fuji xt1 on the scope in prime and the image of saturn / jupiter is tiny. With a 2x barlow and a 18mm eyepiece in a similar setup to yours I found that the image is larger and brighter ( 1/3 sec ss vs 1/30 both @ iso 1600) but not very sharp at all.
    Cheers, Mark,

@@NateWithWho I ended up getting a Celestron 127 SLT. You need a T-ring adapter and attach it to your camera. Remove the telescope eyepiece and put the camera/T-ring into the telescope where the eyepiece came out. You have to use the focus knob on the telescope to get the view in focus. It was amazing to see the moon close up for the first time, and get some good photos.

@@philnolan7193 I did that but the focus wasn't working for me. I just ordered the adapter tube so I can put the eyepiece into the tube and connect my camera to the tube instead.

Totally off subject are/were you a firefighter with an epic mustache because you sound like. HAHA Thank you for a great video, it was very helpful and I really enjoyed your work. I am looking forward to trying it with my 130.
Do you ever do any post production with Adobe Lightroom?

Can you change the magnification of the Barlow lens as with the Eyepiece?
