I grew up in MD and will never forget the cicada invasion that happened sometime around 1987. It was positively Biblical. They were EVERYWHERE. You couldn't go outside without getting thwacked in the face by clouds of them. They covered windshields, hoods, car roofs, and every horizontal surface everywhere. You crunched over them as you walked on the ground. Our school playground was covered with them on every piece of equipment. You had to cover your eyes and mouth to keep from getting them inside. It was the most disgusting plague I've ever lived through. I shudder to remember it. Ugh. Gross.
I grew up in East Texas and when I was a kid they used to sing so loud that at times it was hard to sleep at night. We didn't have air-conditioning then. I thought I missed them at times. Haven't lived in Texas in years and years until I visited last summer. They were more fun to remember than to actually hear again.
@@LydiaStarz chicken and birds go nuts over them, great fishing bait, people eat bugs. In food every day, can't keep them out of wheat , they will eat shrimp, and won't eat these organic foods, I'll take the bug. No chemicals.
I don't agree - they're NOT creepy to me. Since I was a little girl (am 55 YO now) I've been picking up Cicadas and letting them crawl on me. I've never had one bite me or cause me to become hysterical with fear. 😂. They are awesome bugs and I love hearing them buzzzzzz throughout the spring and summertime. Whenever they stop "buzzing," I miss that sound - to me, it's quite relaxing. 👍😉😻
It's not "gross", it's amazing! We should marvel at the Earth's creatures. This is the only planet upon which they exist.
Agree
come to my yard in a few weeks, it will change your mind.
I love them they are amazing
CICADAs are AWESOME....leave them ALONE
