Around 1:30 AM Friday morning DPS responded to reports of a wrong way driver traveling Southbound in the Northbound lanes of SR-51.

An on duty Phoenix Police officer and multiple other motorists witnessed the sedan traveling wrong way at a high rate of speed and notified State Troopers.
●
The wrong way vehicle, driven by a woman in her 40s, collided head on with another vehicle North of Thomas Road.
●
Troopers arrived to find a serious 2 vehicle collision blocking multiple lanes.
●
Fire crews arrived on scene a short time later and transported both the female driver of the wrong way vehicle and the male driver of the secondary vehicle to a local hospital with extensive injuries.
●
Northbound SR-51 is expected to remain closed between Thomas Road and Indian School Road throughout the early morning hours as DPS investigates the incident.
