  • The KOSMO modular format from ‪@LOOKMUMNOCOMPUTER‬ is awesome, and I've had a rather... interesting journey from failure to great success in building the modules. Interfacing it with my Eurorack or other gear was a bit of a pain though, so I built my first completely DIY module to let me easily connect up to test equipment, and other bits and bobs. Here's what I did.
    In other news, I am off on a mini tour with ‪@SLIMECITY‬ for the next few days, and so will be a bit slower on the ol' replies/uploads than normal. Please forgive me. Please. Please. Please.

    That acrylic sheet you're showing in the video is flexing a lot as you're drilling. It's usually a better idea to support it from all sides as close to where you're working as possible, that should help with cracking. If you have some soft scrap wood, you could also just put on top of the wood and drill through the acrylic into the wood. That gives you maximum support, though it is a bit messier.

      Oh that is a great tip. Thank you. That'll be why I cracked the first one. I'll definitely use a bit of scrap wood next time!

    eXCELLENT! Hope the screw fitting doesn't split. Well done. Looking forward to a demo. Side note; discovering the joy of waveshaping my neutron with my latest module from Doepfer. So many timbres.

    Hah, well done! That’s quite the colour! I tend to make my panels as PCBs and order them from a fab house. Probably would be a bit more expensive for Kosmo format, but works out to about 5-9€ for 5 Eurorack panels. This way I don’t have to drill anything or do any wiring and it’s sturdy enough! My first completely DIY module was a +/- 5V limiter so that I don’t have to worry about magic smoke with synths that don’t like more than that on the inputs 😀 4 channels in 4HP! I was very proud of that too 😎 Are you planning to design some active circuits too? I’m currently working on turning the MFOS Noise Cornucopia into a Eurorack module. Already have it working on a breadboard, so I’ll be doing the PCB design next! Fun fun!

      I love the yellow! 5eur for give is awesome. I suspect I will end up on active circuits at some point but it's beyond my needs just now ha

    Suggestion for alternate material... PCB (or just the blank FRP). You can get PCBs fabricated (with holes and cut outs) quite cheaply these days, with some artistic skill you could add Copper/Resist/Silk-Screen to make your panel all fancy like. If you go "active", you could even layout the circuit(s) on the underside of the lid - though that likely means going surface mount (soldering is that difficult as long as you stay with the larger parts).

    • @mungewell
      @mungewell Před 2 lety

      Or, as secondary thought, you could recycle PCBs... would be quite cool having another person's circuit showing through...

    • @StephenMcLeod
      @StephenMcLeod  Před 2 lety

      It's a good suggestion! Something that's probably the next step or two along from my current level mind :D

  • @the_smart_work_project1443

    Get a drill press! -If you want to cut aluminum sheets you can buy a little A4 size cutter for metal & pcb's, but they are quite expensive...

      I have one but it's rubbish! My issue is mostly my terrible measurement. Maybe I need to get a better one.
