I had front row aisle in the right section- right in front of JP. The reason the audio is so good on these videos is I had the speaker right in front of me, and it wasn't at a horrible loud volume- came out perfect.

Tours, they ruin the singer's voice. Those first shows will have his voice absolutely on point, but through the tour his voice won't hold that great... I see this easily on Axl Rose too, his voice on the first shows is great too

It should've been -5 or -7. James recently released an album called 'A beautiful shade of Gray', it has showed CLEARLY what songs James feels comfortable singing. Playing songs in original tuning is a torture for both James and the audience.
When they did images and words in Eb it just didn’t sound right, but this works much better. Must be bc much of the song is in a pretty low register as it is.
I think it's because this song is way more 'metal' than anything from images and words, and metal sounds heavier in a lower tunings (to an extent obviously, lower doesnt always mean heavier, but with DT it seems to. Train of Thought, the metal album, has no songs in E Standard whatsoever)

@xsiete25x I prefer Mangini's crisp, and tight drumming. He so much more nuanced and detailed. Way more exciting. Mangini responds to the music more. Portnoy is great, but Mangini just has more "octane". An evolution and progression of the art.
with the setup he has . i don't think he can do it comfortably . i frankly dont understand MM hihat playing at all . yes you are a technical monster but that openhihat playing or even hihat finesse is not there since you joined DT . one thing that is consistent with portnoy across all his career is his spectacular use of hihat . there is no DT track that has great Hihat moment seems very robotic . i like MM but not in dream theater

Why? He plays clean, precise, in tempo and adds his own licks (especially double bass double/triple strokes of which he's well known). The chemistry with the rest is defo there. In addition, the kit sounds deep, metallic.
