    We are using Build Your Library , math workbooks, State unit study, Ocean unit study, and a future cities class. Deawing the world geography, theater, a few co-op classes that are fun, sewing, volunteering, saxophone, and piano for my seventh grader. She loves hands-on and is very artistic, so most things drawing or some kind of art is a large component.

    Homeschooling a 7th grader here also. We are using Story of Science this year also and really like the textbook. Initially we were using the Student Quest guide too, but I'm not thrilled with how that is set up so I'm looking to change that up a bit. Home Science Tools has a middle/high school beginner chemistry kit that I'm toying with trying to add more depth to his science this year.
    We're also doing US History. Using lectures on Wondrium, Smithsonian's visual encyclopedia of US History, and IEW history-based writing lessons, I feel like we're covering it very well. I feel the same as you about knowing States/capitals and Presidents, haha. I'm also adding a low-key world geography curriculum. Math is video-based Denison pre-algebra (highly recommend so far).
    Question for you - besides just reading the Story of Science books, what tangible "work" do you assign, if any, to reinforce the knowledge and understanding of the information?

      I don’t have any formal or routinely assigned work for science. We discuss, watch related videos, and sometimes I will have them create a project of some sort related to the topic. We did Mel’s science kits in the past for more hands on science, but we are light on science this year

      It’s sooo hard to do when there are so many great choices out there!

    Trying Lightening Literature for our first time this year. Glad you like it. I liked our blossom and root, but thought we would try something new in hopes to not go so off roading this year. Hoping to write more ourselves.

    I like how simple you are. I feel like I’m still trying for figure it out and especially since each kid is unique. Just subscribed. I also have a channel mainly about homeschooling and happy to be able to connect here 😊

    In public school there were textbooks and workbooks, that parents paid a fourtune to rent and never even used in the class

      The amount of curriculum that goes unfinished or often unused amazes me. I would think at some point they would figure out they could work with less.

    I have my first 7th grader this year! We are doing mommy hour (all the kids together where I present ideas in history/science etc through books using things like Five in a Row and other resources plus we are Christian so that's our Bible time), Learn Math Fast for math, Reading/Fix IT/Word Roots/copywork and free write for English, and then she is choosing a few things she wants to add. She has decided to do the Red Cross Babysitting Course, she wants to finish her book she's been writing, and play on intermediate soccer league. It is hard for me not to add more since it seems more serious now BUT in my heart I know this is the PERFECT amount.

      Follow your ❤️. It’s so easy to pile in too much, but so often less IS more. Good job mama!

      Thank you! I forgot to add that she is doing Debate and Dissection in our co op this first semester too. She is pretty excited about her year so that helps me relax! I love that my 12 year old doesn't hate learning!

    Great choices! Since you guys keep it really simple, does that mean that your girls do interest lead activities as well? If so, what kinds of things do they do?

    • @HomeschoolHappyHour
      @HomeschoolHappyHour  Před rokem

      We do incorporate interest led activities, but between sports, there base academics, and being gone every 2 weeks for five days we sometimes have a hard time fitting in a lot more. Bean bean really enjoys baking so we do a lot of that.
