I love how the title is "14 Entrepreneurs Who Built Food Empires" when the actual truth is that for many, it was no single entrepreneur who built them but rather generations of family.
I am not disparaging any of these folks achievements but the truth is it is easier to succeed when born into the right circumstances and those born into farming, business or political families will always have an advantage over the average person.
Very often through hard work as kids being committed and dedicated to the family business but equally as often it is "not what you know but who you know".

@@striker44yep, there's a differences between being rich and being wealthy. Modern people loves to be rich but those who loves their family and lineage will aspire to be wealthy. They love their family so much that they secured the future of their loveones by giving them inheritances for future generation to come. Modern progressive people would never understand the importance of starting your own family business given some never cared about their family to begin with. Such a shame.

When I was growing up there was a bakery the next town over. The German woman who ran it made the best pumpernickel bread as well as cheesecake that was nothing like what they crank out today. I think she might have used mascarpone instead of cream cheese. It wasn’t as sweet as cream cheese and it was amazing. She made cherry, blueberry and pineapple. The filling was on the bottom and I don’t think she used graham cracker crust either. Not positive what she used but when daddy brought one home, along with her pecan sticky buns! Wow! The best treat was to grab the end of the pumpernickel bread, slather it with butter and you had a serious treat! YUM and double YUM!!

When I was first stationed near Jax, FL there was a great steakhouse called the Tree Steakhouse in the Arlington area that had been there for 50 years. It was the best steakhouse around. They had fantastic dry aged steaks like in this video. It was a small restaurant. They would bring out the roll of Rye-eye steaks on a card, you would tell the server how thick that you wanted your steak and how seasoned-cooked. The Arlington area of the city started to go down hill in the late 80's and they moved. Only it was not as good and they did not last. I have much respect for people working in the food business. It is hard long work. Shalom

It's also a service business. The service industry is not given the respect it deserves as a major cog in an industrial capitalist society. Every cook, bottle washer, waiter, busboy, bartender, packager, and deliveryman makes life an adventure for all to enjoy. Democratic capitalists in Europe are the same, and many refugees do well. Many family businesses have been bought out or visited with offspring from the elite colleges to seek short-term gain with no capital value assigned to legacy, or brand protection.

One meter was for the domestics ( 120: volt needs like lighting and receptacles. Most of these businesses also had a second meter for their 3 phase loads, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment. It wasn’t until the 1970s that new buildings began to have their own indoor transformers to provide all their power needs from a single meter.

    I'm a _'hot sauce connoisseur'._
In addition to the sauces I make myself, I always have 6 to 10 varieties of bottled 'commercial' sauce on hand. After decades of refining my palate, I'm at the point where foods and drinks almost _'require'_ specific sauces.
For instance, _'Franks'_ is the _only_ sauce for hot wings, and when it comes to egg dishes, _only_ my _fresh 'jalapeno/cilantro/garlic & onion'_ sauce will do.
And when it comes to Tabasco? It's the *ONLY* one I'll use for Bloody Mary (vodka) and Red Snapper (gin) cocktails. It has just the right amount of heat and vinegar.
