    Honestly as a 70D user, i will definitely go for this one instead of M6II for an upgrade just for the long battery life i can get with a DSLR camera, plus improved AF for OVF & live view,and more video features (compared to 70D) are also a nice touch.

    It's also worth noting that the 90D allows shooters to keep their viewfinders even when shooting with external flash or triggers. Also, it has a proper tilt-flip screen for shooting at high/low angles even in portrait orientation.
    I had passed the M50 for so long because I was hoping that the next M flagship would incorporate the same features, but what we got instead was a glorified M3.

    I just got this for Christmas I am in love. I upgraded from a very old canon 500d which is over 10 years old now. So this is just a whole new a level for me. I was bought this more for the filming although I do photography as well. It’s going to be a great all rounder. I find it’s very comfortable to hold also. The tracking / focus on this is superb. Love it

  • @akareject
    @akareject Před 4 lety +22

    I picked up the 90D based on your early review/M6 Mark II comparison video. And I honestly love my 90D! I already have a 5D Mark IV and the 90D compliments it very well. It's lighter and great with the shorter lens. Easy to swap between the two in a pinch. Also, I don't think you can overstate the 120 fps full HD video. That was the selling point for me and it lives up to my expectations. The 120 FPS video in a studio setting has been super clean. I'll be putting it to work in a few weeks during an engagement shoot in NYC. That will be the real test. But so far, I am very happy with my purchase and have found both reviews you have done to be helpful and accurate.

    • @07wrxtr1
      @07wrxtr1 Před 4 lety +1

      How is the image quality vs the 5d IV? I'm debating the 90d vs a cheap 5ds for landscape use only + 16-35 F4. Already have the 80d + 100-400 II which has done fine for wildlife use.

    • @akareject
      @akareject Před 4 lety

      @@07wrxtr1 The few shots I've taken with it seem good. Real test is in a couple of weeks at that engagement shoot. I can update you after that. The two big differences I notice right away from the 5D are weight and controls. The 90D is significantly lighter than the 5D which I really appreciate. However, I prefer the dials on the 5D over the 90D. My fat fingers are struggling with back dial the most.

    • @jerryb.7021
      @jerryb.7021 Před 4 lety +1

      @@akareject yes, please let us know how the 90D compares to the 5d Mark IV in low light as far as clarity/noise. And dynamic range in normal conditions. I'm trying to decide between EOS R(which i heard has same sensor as the 5D Mark IV) and the 90D. The newer sensor in the 90D might be able to compete pretty well.

    Just got one a couple days ago. Pretty nice camera. Definitely a good step up over the 80d. You speak of missing more than hitting with the tracking ability of someone running at the camera. I’ve had pretty good success with that with my 2 year old running around and toward me. Many more keepers than not this time around. I really love the battery life. • @AcidTripwire
    @AcidTripwire Před 4 lety +86

    The annoying thing about the megapixels arms race is that I would rather have improved low light/high ISO performance and dynamic range... But increased resolution is what sells to consumers because to them more megapixels = better camera

    • @operatora588
      @operatora588 Před 4 lety +19

      Nothing wrong with having more megapixels. If cameras were 20 MP a few years ago. A new 32 MP sensor + improved processor can give the same or even better low light performance in 2019. In my opinion both resolution and low light performance should improve in a balanced way.

    • @AcidTripwire
      @AcidTripwire Před 4 lety +7

      @@operatora588 Very true! But you only get so much benefit from increasing resolution - unless you're planning on blowing up photos to huge sizes like billboards, you don't need it (even if you are, big prints like that can have a low DPI). If you're using that higher resolution to make huge crops, especially with APS-C cameras, you're going to run into the physical limitations of the lens, and then there's your shutter speed and hand shake, etc. At that point I would suggest to maybe get a longer lens or move closer lol. If a camera with more megapixels can have the same image quality, I would rather have less megapixels and better image quality instead. But that's just a preference.

      That's the point. I want to limit the megapixels so that the photosites are more concerned with obtaining light, not getting more fine detail.

    I'm a Canon shooter (6D full-frame and M50 mirrorless APSC).
    I'm always totally underwhelmed by new Canon releases, like everyone. However..... Bleeding-edge features are not what Canons are about. After a while you realise that they just work. They get a job done with the minimum of effort.
    They are reliable and intuitive to use.
    That's why so many Pros still use the 5D series cameras, because their livelihood depends on getting the shot.
    I don't need 4K so my M50, with Viltrox speedbooster suits me fine. As much as I loved the 70D and 80D I think the days of the enthusiast APSC DSLR are coming to an end. The portability of the Mirrorless cameras makes them a dream for the enthusiast. I rarely go walkabout with my 6D now, it's always the M50 I grab (with the superb 22mm f/2)

      M50 for fun and just back to what you like. Shooting.
      Can’t wait to get the 22m. The m50 really shines with its native lenses and the viltrox really helps open up more creativity if you wanna add the weight of the glass.

    I’m a traditional (D)SLR enthusiast photographer of a certain age, and for me, this camera is perfect. In fact I’ve just sold a 5DIV + FF L lenses, and a 750D, to concentrate on this. I was finding the 5DIV + L lens just too0 big and heavy to hold for long periods of time. Like Chris my eyesight is going, so I find a VF preferable to using a screen, and the OVF on this camera is very good. I suspect that this might be my ‘last camera’; I can’t think of what else I would want.
    One last point regarding size & weight, etc. My first good SLR was an original EOS 650 (the film camera) which I bought in 1988, and I used it and a couple of successors for many years. Just for fun I compared the size and weight of the 90D + Sigma 17-70 (my walk-round lens) with an old EOS 600 (630 in N America) + 28-105 lens, and they’re very similar. I feel like I’ve come home with the 90D.

      No, but that was too much money. I was able to buy the 90D new by selling older stuff on eBay. I did consider the RP but I have a feeling that’s a work in progress, it will be replaced improved quite quickly, and then I would just want to upgrade - which I wouldn’t be able to afford.
      Let me be clear - I’m saying this is the best camera *for me*. Other cameras may well be better for other people, and I’ve no argument against their decisions.

    I bought a new 90D in March of 2023. I’ve had extremely good results with it. Very sharp well exposed images. I take issue with your test of a moving subject toward the camera using the OVF. My test with a running dog gave me good results with most (over 85 percent) either tack sharp or very close to it. I was using a Sigma 100-400 lens, 1,500th sec F8 with a 9 focus point cluster. The 90D is very comfortable to use with all the buttons in the right places. The joystick which I thought I might use is actually among my least used features. I almost exclusively use the OVF rather the than the rear screen for composing photos. I use my 90D with the Sigma zoom mostly for wildlife and birds in the Toronto area.

    Chris n Jordan, thanks for reviewing the 90D. Can you please compare the 90D and 6D mark2? These two bodies sit on the fence of enthusiast versus professional though Canon labels them both as enthusiast models.
    Would be interesting to hear from you the photographic performance of the full frame 6D versus crop sensor of 90D.
    Thanks in advance.
    Cheers
    Nikhil

    Trying to decide between M6II and this. The compelling reason to go for this in my book is weathersealing and ergonomics. The reasons for M6II is it's size and the evf. I honestly don't know.

    Correct me if I am wrong, but I already have 6 EF and EFS lenses, wouldn't buying the mirrorless be more trouble than it's worth? $200 for the adapater, and added bulkiness. My understanding is that adaptor would not change lens performance, though I was not clear how you move optics with respect to the sensor and there's no change.

    The upgrade to 4k, DPAF, the lens selection make this camera are fantastic option for those of us who do technical and educational presentations on youtube. I loved the 70 and 80d--but no 4 k, no cigar. But the ease and convenience of shooting will make this camera a welcome collection to my cameras.
    Shooting in 30p. Actually, better suited for youtube anyway.

    I want to upgrade from the T7i to the 90D. is low light shooting good? with my T7i, anything about 800 ISO sucks and brings in a lot of noise. 800 is really a last resort for me and I have a pretty hard line to keep it at 400 ISO or below which of course severely limits my shooting options. is the 90D better in that regard? Marginally better, a huge upgrade or is it comparable to the T7i?

      @@666Tomato666 We used the 17-55 in our Atlanta episode, and it certainly wasn't resolving the sensor's full resolution. The new EF-S 35mm F2.8 Macro did a great job, as do the bulky but sharp Sigma Art Lenses.

    I love my 90D it’s amazing. I have a T6i and I was looking at the 80D because Canon was taking so long to make the 90D available and as I was about to finally purchase the 80D the 90D pre-order release was announced. I jumped on it and have been lovinggggggg my 90D. Crisp clear pictures and videos. I’m definitely going to purchase a second 90D body for sure. It’s amazing !!!.

      What sort of lenses are you using ? How is it for sports photography using OVF at 10fps ? The review at 8:00 gives it a less than stellar report, but I wonder if it's just related to the lens they were using. I'm looking to jump up from the T6s, so your experience with the 90D mirrors one possible path for me
