As an Estonian person, I can say that Esther’s actor does incredible job with the accent!! A few times it sounds more like a russian accent but it still sounds incredibly like Estonian accent!!!!Also, I have a fun story to tell: when the orphan first came out my parents where at Korea (they ‘re Estonians) they wanted to see orphan, not knowing what the movie is about. They went to theatre and at the part where Esther’s stepmom called to the Saarne institute the Estonian lady picked up the phone in the movie. So literally my parents didn’t know what the movie was about and they were in Korea and then out of blue some lady starts talking Estonian language in the movie! And it’s so fun to listen their experience cuz they were just gonna see a random movie!

Technically orphan wasn't really a horror movie but I have to say no absolutely sucked compared to the original sorry I know that's not what people wanted to hear I did not like the twist either I felt like it's something cheesy that you would expect from a Scream movie that's good in Scream but in a movie like orphan it just didn't fit for me and I have to say it was also very rushed The Twist comes in the middle of the film if everyone else liked it I'm glad they did I respect everyone's opinion I'm not trashing people for liking it but I didn't like the film it felt like trash to me just me that's just how I felt if anyone liked it have at it I really just couldn't like it like the original I'll always be a huge orphan fan for the original

I want to see a 3rd movie. They never showed us Esther's dead body. She could've survived, even if it's unbelievable. After all, isn't that what normally happens with slashers in movies?

    • @kimberleymonroe1157
      @kimberleymonroe1157 Před 2 lety +11

Since she has solidified herself as a slasher icon, I guess the next step is to make her invincible lol.
Seriously though, idk what they'd do for a 3rd movie. Maybe they could have it set at an orphanage, but not the one in the first movie. Have it set at a different one and she wreaks havoc, and at the end have her moved to a different orphanage.

I think that's because first one is based on a real incident but the family were the bad guys and they abandoned an actual child that they adopted claiming she's a grown woman. They locked her in the house and left, leaving her to starve. But I've heard that story both ways- both that she wasn't a little kid and that she was and the family just wanted to abandon her.

This was a long waited prequel/sequel and I just can't wait to see it which I think the writers did their homework to call back on the story from the 1st film when Esther was staying with that family and they was in a fire or something like that. When it played I already knew this to be the family mentioned in the first movie, but the twist was very interesting. The first 20-30 minutes was filled with "WTF" "Did that really?" and "BADASS!!" Esther really did come out swinging. Gives you the lesson of, she might be little but she will mess you up! Also, you get a chance to really learn her personality prior to her joining a family. She seemed very sweet but always on survival mode so beware if you get too close. She was definitely a con artist.
As the movie progresses, it takes a turn. Esther's personality changes and I am not sure if I was too interested in the direction it took. The action scenes and watching the family get back at each other kept me hooked. It just seemed like the writers didn't know what direction they wanted to take and just tried to make both work. I would definitely make some changes that fit her personality in the beginning of the movie.
I can't mention enough about how fucked that twist was. It made me realize that I was rooting for Esther the whole time. Just makes you question the initial meeting.
I don't really rate things on a 1- 10 scale though. That's too many choices. My rating scale is: Trash, Entertaining at Best, Watch on a Rainy Day, I will definitely watch this movie again, and Holy F'n Shyteballs that was good. I would scale it, Watch on a Rainy Day. As mentioned, I loved some of the action sequences. Especially when Esther was punishing the wicked. Also, the little feud within the family was interesting to watch. I think it's important to see character development so I would prob watch it prior to watching the film a couple times just to see that progression. I just think the story didn't have a strong direction with the personality change.

I just finished watching this movie and I had such a blast. I went in with low expectations and had watched bodies bodies bodies the same day (hated the movie idk how it has 89% ratings) and this movie was a refresher like ugh I thought it was so good. Prequel standards this is just as good as Annabelle creation. Definitely one of my fav horror movies of the year.

I dont about you guys but thus left me with a lot of questions. Like how did the investigator or officer know that Leena wasn't esther? Why did Gunnar kill his own sister and why did the mother cover it up? Was Gunnar jealous of his younger sister? Did Gunnar have some mental illness? Why was the mother so keen on Allen paiting again? Was she actually jealous of Allen and Esther relationship? Or was she resentful of esther? Was esther only the step child to Tricia, otherwise why did she not like her and feel she needed to die? Was she using Allen's money from the paintings to put into the foundation? And for what reason? Did Allen have Esther before he met Tricia and Gunnar? And the list goes on because it seem that Tricia had some motive to not only keep the Esther death a secret but make sure Allen is painting and making more money.

Suspenseful thriller with a twist. At one point you feel bad for Ether on how the family plotted vengeance on her. We all knew how the film was going to end. That's the thing with presequal's

The First movie I actually just watched yesterday but unfourtantley knew the twist.. still it was a great movie. Better than I was expecting by far. Orphan First Kill I did NOT know the twist and man it was a great one. I had no clue how they could pull of a prequel with the same actress, no cgi, and a 12 year gap.. like you I had no clue how they could make the prequel interesting since we already knew she wasn't a 9 year old child. Julia Sties did a great job. Estes actress did a great job. The make-up artist, the way it was shot, the practical effects they used looked way better than I was anticipating.
SPOILERS SPOILERS DON'T READ IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THIS MOVIE
    SPOILERS SPOILERS
That twist was great and unexpected.. I thought the first half that Julia Stiles and the brother actor were not too great and didn't even care or have any emotion that her daughter and his sister was missing so long and finally found. After the reveal that the brother accidently killed the real sister and the mom hid the body so the dad wouldn't know it made the first half so kuch better and made me appreciate their acting so much more. Especially Julia I've never seen her in a role like that and she killed it. I was actually pulling for Ester the rest of the movie. Loved seeing the bro killed how he was. Loved that the mom died. They were just as evil as her if not worse. I wish the dad actually had to make a choice like in "the good son" instead of mom just losing her grip. It took away from the ending. He should have made a choice. Obviously his daughter. Then he found out she wasn't her. Then je dies. Other than that I love both of the movies and wish they didn't kill her off in the 1st movie. Would love to see her fxxk with another family.

I absolutely LOVE the movie Orphan, it's my favourite movie of all time. It set the bar incredibly high. First Kill was a good movie, but I just don't think it works well as an Orphan prequel. It also has canon inconsisancies with the original. But as a movie on its own it's good. I think Orphan's better as a standalone movie. It's so perfect it doesn't need any additional backstory.

Not too bad! Better than I thought it would be especially with that mid movie twist. Didn't see it coming at all and loved it even more for its sudden reveal. Wished the Dad could've found out more about things though. Would've really heightened the tension...moreso than it already was. But enjoyed the film regardless. A great sequel among most horror sequel duds.

Finally watched this and I did not expect them to pull off an intriguing twist, let alone halfway into the movie. I am not a huge horror fan, but liked the first Orphan because I like thrillers. That twist tho, I was just on for the ride. Stiles has been underated as an actress. She was so great in this!
