+Dan Bertucci His government file on his draft rating states.
Theodore Anthony Nugent first received a high school 1-S deferment in February 1967, when he was 18. After briefly being reclassified as available for service, Nugent got a 2-S college deferment when he enrolled in Oakland Community College in Michigan. In August 1969, Nugent took his draft physical and was rejected for service. He was classified as 1-Y, indicating that he was qualified for service only in time of a national emergency. The 1-Y classification was usually issued to candidates saddled with significant medical or mental issues.
So if what High Times said was a lie, why didn't he sue for wrongful enrichment or libel?
I have a huge problem with a guy who wants to send guys off to die but is scared to do it himself.
You have an entire country of leftist idiots that don't understand war is sometimes necessary then you have the other side of the coin. The right wing extremists who puff up their chest about war and have never served, got deferments, or had their parents pull strings to get them out of dangerous duty.

Ted has told the story of not showering, feigning mental health issues & even claiming he enrolled in college, (yet toured with his band) during several interviews back in the 70's. It wasn't until he starting getting called out on his "pro-war/I would have kicked ass in Nam" comments that he started to deny this, claiming, "no I just had a high draft number". It wasn't just one isolated interview. He's a bit like Romney, Chaney, Rumsfield Bush & the others, they agreed with the Vietnam war & the draft, they just didn't think they should have to go & because of their family's power/connection/cash (& Ted excuses) they got a bunch of deferments & really high draft #. There's even video/photos of Romney actually making fun of anti-war/draft protestors. No offence, but it's one thing to be a conscientious objector & quite another to be pro-war/draft when you know the draft won't affect you.

Ted has always been a asshole. Back in the late 60's and early 70's those that knew him only have bad things to say about him. He was cheap, narcissistic in the extreme and a cheat who used and abused his heavy rotation of band mates.
To make matter worse Ted hid in a Community College for five full years hiding from military service. Yet no degree after five years?
Not one photo of him waving our flag back then.
As a citizen we all have a right to file as a contentious objector. Many great things came from allowing that possibility. Its not dodging, its refusing yet not running from the ramifications of making that choice.
Same with Trump. Several school deferments then he paid a corrupt doctor for his "Bone Spurs" excuse while still participating in athletics.

  • @jffrocks
    @jffrocks Před 12 lety +3

True. As long as you were a full time college student carrying a full load of classes you could get a deferrment for 4 years to graduation. AND they also held a draft lottery in 1968. Your birthday got you a "random" number from 1 to 365. Many of my college buddies got high numbers that virtually guaranteed they would never be called up by the draft. They could relax. I got number 54, which sucked. My roomate got 286 which was a free pass. That's how it was back then.

I get tired of some of the people who served in the military thinking they are better than everyone else. I honestly appreciate their service, but that is only a part of what & who they are - period. It doesn't give them a life pass to think they are better than everyone else. Some veterans are good people & some are a-holes just like cops, fireman, teachers, plumbers etc. Nugent has raised MILLIONS AND MILLIONS of dollars and given of his own personal time and treasure to honor & support our veterans & he is a tireless supporter of our Constitution. That makes him OK in my book & if you have a different opinion you are entitled to it, but remember this - it doesn't make YOUR OPINION any more right than mine or the local butchers. Opinions are like spincters... everyone has one. I like Ted's music and his politics and his charitable nature. What have YOU done for others lately? Trump elaborated on the fact in the interview, calling women’s vaginas “potential landmines” and saying “there’s some real danger there.”
“You know, if you’re young, and in this era, and if you have any guilt about not having gone to Vietnam, we have our own Vietnam - it’s called the dating game,” Trump said to Stern in a 1993 interview.

Nugent had three classifications; 1/He originally had a school deferment, as he said, but 2/ Contrary to his claim , he later is in the army records as failing his physical. However, he was 1-Y, not 4-F, which means "not now, but still eligible in wartime". (I guess Vietnam wasn't declared?) 1-Y doesn't indicate that he did anything insane. 3/1-Y was later discontinued, and he was reclassified 4-F, but he never was examined again for this change, so it's unlikely that he had done anything very weird for the 1-Y he got after his only exam.

The only way to verify anything is to have FACTS. Most of the documents that were used during the 60's Draft Deferments have been destroyed. Using FACT check they come up with a 4 out of 10 regarding this issue which means that he more than likely did dodge the draft. Unlike myself who volunteered in '65 I have a DD-214 which proves that I put in 4 years. There is no documentation to prove him one way or the other, but his body language and ineptness in describing the situation speaks volumes. The way to really prove it is to have some people come forward who knew him during that period. Now, also keep in mind that more than one well known person received deferments like Cheney for school, Biden for Asthma, Clinton for school, Trump for heal spurs (5 times) and others. It was an era when some men would do anything to avoid it. There are posers of every kind out here today. Even people who call themselves Patriots because they drove by a recruiting station. Bottom Line: Ted Nugent never served a day in the military whether he was a Draft Dodger or not and doesn't belong to the Brotherhood one way or the other and doesn't Donald Trump being Commander in Chief or not being the Commander in Chief. I just hope he doesn't qualify to be buried in Arlington National Cemetery and embarrass us all.

Like he was the ONLY ONE?!? My dad could be considered a "draft dodger" if people reached enough (which is very common these days). He was good friends with a now famous actor with the initials K.R. back in highschool. When they graduated, K.R.'s dad knew a guy at the National Guard. So him and K.R. and a few other of their friends were magically accepted. His service included playing baseball with prisoners at a local state prison, and other menial things. He did it because he didn't want to go to Vietnam, obviously. (Turns out he wouldn't have been drafted anyways, because he was a "last living son in a family" but he didn't know that at the time.) I'm thankful for those who did serve and do serve today! I really am! And have a huge amount of respect for our military. My brother served in the marines, along with my cousin. But, during the Vietnam War, can you blame some guys for NOT WANTING to go? Seeing how vets were being treated when they got home, IF they got home, was horrendous! The government did NOTHING to help those who served, and even our own citizens turned on vets who DID CHOOSE to go. I don't think it's fair to judge, especially when you weren't even alive back then to experience what was going on in our country. But that's just me. ✌

No one blames anyone for not wanting to go. The problem with Ted is that he became such a right wing cheerleader for any military adventures that the US engaged in in the Middle East, so basically he was cheering on a new generation to do what he was too afraid to do.

As a veteran I have to say, you have no clue what you are saying "most of the young men who enter come back home because training is too intense" actually just a few "come back home". When I went through basic training I could count on one hand the number of guys that went home out of a entire company (about 200+ troops).
