My First Ever Marathon, Wow!!
By a long way, the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life!!
The progression run that I had planned went out the window straight away after getting caught up and going out too fast at the start.
Knowing that I was going to suffer with my legs and/or injury at some point I decided to stick with this and bank some time for if I had to stop at any point.
I surprised myself in terms of fitness but I found it harder than anticipated struggling with niggles of previous injuries from less than half way in. My calf that I thought would be the thing to let me down never played up at all and IT bands out of the blue was what nearly got me.
I was in so much pain for a long time especially with 6k to go, stopping and starting and wondering if I could actually make the finish line. It nearly got me!!
If it wasn’t for the same old story of my legs letting me down, I surprisingly could have been on for a well under sub 4. But nevertheless, I dug deep and made it back. Emotional finish, maybe it was just relief but so proud of myself. The places I had to go to get myself to the finish line!!!
I however absolutely loved the experience and the whole marathon journey and I can take away a lot of positives and confidence from this - my first marathon, and will use it to my advantage next time! Yes next time! I will definitely be looking to do another marathon at some point!!
😁🏃🥇👊🏻
Amazing stuff. You did a great job. Top running 💪👌
Thank you very much!
I’m just reading that the AUKCM have concluded that the course measured 276m long!
My Garmin had me at 42.85k with a Strava time of 4.07.05 so I will have wait and see if race times are officially amended.
Well done mate great time, I was there too. Every single person on the road that day is a legend! Welcome to the marathon club!👍
Thank you very much! Hope your race went well?
Great effort! As you say, "you dun it" 😊😊
@@kathrynflannery2889 I did! 😁😁 amazing what you can achieve! …from not even being able to run a lap of the park to running my first marathon!
Thank you!!! And thanks for watching!
Awesome work!
Thank you! 😁
Congratulation. Great stuff for #1. You can be proud of your achievement. Take a quick break and think about the next one. Stay strong you legend.
Thank you so much! You know what, I am proud of what I’ve achieved! As hard as it’s going to be I’m looking to take 2 weeks off to recover and then back out running 😁
Well done! 🎉
Thank you! Last 6k was brutal after picking up an IT band injury.
Great job! 🙌 4:10 on your first Marathon is a great achievement!
Thank you! I’m very happy with 4:10! I think sub 4 was on until the last 6k. IT band out of the blue nearly finished me off but somehow I still managed to finish with 4:10 😁 all experience that I will take to the next one!
Superb time for you! Did your race go ok?
@@CarlTheAmateurRunner yes, the last Km are always testing. I’m really happy with my time and a 10 minutes PB. The last 5km were difficult with some calves and hamstrings cramps but managed to pull through it.
@@laurentpierre7419 nice! Congrats on the Pb!
Great running Carl 🎉 I've just found you on CZcams fab vids mate keep this up love it. I did Newport but had to pull out at halfway due to sharp knee pain 😢 did it the year before and will definitely return 😁👍
Thank you!!
…Did you!? Ah mate sorry to hear that. I’d like to do a Marathon every year now and deciding on what to do next year. I am considering going back to Newport as I feel I have unfinished business there now.
A quality video and great work out there, looked a lovely marathon to do so will need to consider it if I don't get into London, great photos at the end by the way, keep up the good work
Ah thank you!! 😁 wish I captured more footage in the end.
Thoroughly enjoyed the whole marathon journey! Already thinking about the next one!
@@CarlTheAmateurRunner definitely great getting the bug 🎉 shame the training in the lead up is always so painful 😂
Great effort mate, Sub-4 is on for the next one!
Thank you! Already thinking about the next one. And yes, sub 4 will be the goal!
@@CarlTheAmateurRunner Good man! Plenty of time if you’re looking at an autumn mara!
Good job!
Just an advice, although I'm not an expert: maybe next time save the extra protein for after the race for recovery and focus more on carbs before the race. The body is more efficient covering carbs into energy.
Thank you! And thanks for watching!
You make a good point. I always have a protein juice after a run to try and aid recovery.
