    What I love about the prequels is the world building. Disneys sequel trilogy just feel so lacking in comparison.

      Well, George Lucas wasn't wrong when he said Star Wars Ep7 didn't have any new. When they first show the finish cut of the film to him.

    "George didn't want to just make things bigger for biggness sake"
    And man, speaking of George, he looked really tired at the end. Like he'd just got to his hotel room at the end of shooting and then dragged him out again to do these featurettes.

    @JarJarBinks4ever Před 4 lety +31

    I always thought that the design of the prequel trilogy was just on another level even compared to the classic first trilogy, and especially comparing it to the current trilogy, whicg has produced no cool new designs for aliens, ships or worlds, they're all just recycled from the priginal trilogy. You would think that Disney would have had more creativity than that.

    • @bhendri31
      @bhendri31 Před rokem

      Disney is a soulless corporation that makes what they believe will sell best. While Lucas did cram a bunch of new, different looking spaceships, droids, aliens, etc. into the prequels to sell more toys, at least he was more open-minded and creative with it.

    Honestly, I think people didn't like this movie not because it was bad, because our was a pretty good storyline. They didn't like it because it was different, so it was shocking at first, but after you think about it for a while, it makes sense and it's a good movie (minus Jar Jar).

      The Jedi refused to take him "no he will not be trained". They did not care for Anakin at all, and Qui-Gon was forced to take him with him, and probably resolve the issue with Anakin after the Naboo crisis had he lived. Qui-Gon in all likelihood would have been forced to return Anakin to Tatooine

    I'm not a big fan of the prequel movies, but one thing I can really respect is the unique architecture that goes into the buildings, vehicles, weapons and clothing of every planet, as well as the logic behind it all (the Naboo fighters being sleek and shiny because the Naboo were crappy fighters and just liked aesthetics, everything in the EMpire being boxy and utilitarian, etc.).

    see even doug chiang said George wanted the ships sleeker and more 'mordern'. which doesn't make a lot of sense cause the events in these movies r taking place 18 years before the events in the original. a lot of the gadgets and tech we see in this film looks way more advanced than Wat we see in 4,5 and 6.

    • @amaxamon
      @amaxamon Před 8 lety +22

      +Wwe Superfan The concept is "paradise lost". The Republic was once great, we see its downfall. The Empire was a step backwards, they kept technological advances for themselves (for projects like the Death Star) but their design aesthetic was utilitarian, which illustrates the totalitarian nature of the government for the audience. Makes perfect sense. It is also a mythological concept, that the past as a lost "golden age"--many fantasists use this same trope such as Tolkien. Jordan and others; and it exists in most mythologies (Greek, Indian, Iranian etc.).

    • @Manuginobili1000
      @Manuginobili1000 Před 8 lety +7

      +Wwe Superfan it makes a whole bunch of sense and its baked up by history. It's America before the Great Depression, the good times before the bad times. In the beginning of the 19th century before WW1, everything that was designed was more elegant and symbolized the craftsmanship of the people who made it. That era is referred to as the gilded age and it was in this time that things like the titanic were made. Then when war broke out everything was mass produced so the unique and elegant designs were replaced by what was easier to make as fast as possible.

    @benmasta5814 Před 7 lety +2

    It was the ultimate movie that became its own universe. People want more of the same just bigger if the original was seen as perfect by so many.
    If someone was going to make Michelangelo's david sculpture better, they would just make it bigger for more people to see the minute details of what make it so great, and to make it the same spectacle for the younger, newer generation that it was for the old.
    if its just more of the old who cares, but if its "new and improved" of something great of the old then everyone will give it a shot, whether they end up hating it or not.
    The main problem is george lucas is not Michelangelo. Only the original genius could truly "add" to the original. People falsely believed it was george when the reality is that star wars was a group project, and was only so amazing because of the devotion of tons of talented people. George is no genius. It was everyone else who was the genius, george was just the name on the project who okay'd the right things at the time.
    He isnt a fool, but he is far from an artistic genius with vision. Its everyone else who made it coherent and incredible to the public. Try watching the uncut version of star wars and you can see where George's dated mentality and lack of vision is blatant. If george had his reign with A new hope like he did on episode 1, it would have been as forgettable and dated as any other sci-fi.

    4:47 there's your problem right there. Star Wars is character driven, not plot driven. This is why Empire is considered the best because it has the least plot but the most character development. This is also why Force Awakens succeeds where the prequels utterly failed - the characters and character development took a back seat to silly plots and pretty environments.

      It's a big job to make a movie, hell even a short film.
      Someone needs to have a vision, then it goes down to supervisors, the individual directors. There's a lot of supervisors and directors and artists and movies STILL takes like 4 years to complete.
      Also, people specialize. So the art directors focus on their work, the director focuses on the big picture of the movie, all to get this task done in a reasonable amount of time.
