This is one of the main reasons turbo motors are being used on economy cars now. When on the throttle, they have the power of a bigger motor. Off throttle, when they aren't producing boost, they are a small displacement motor. As for your "lots of boost" statement, the Ultimate Aero is relatively low at only 14psi compared to the 18psi Veyron SS and 20psi Koenigsegg. This allows them to run smaller turbos with less lag.
Ok I'm hooked, the products of SSC make us Americans proud however ... we never got to see the Ultimate Aero against the Bugatti Veyron. The Veyron was/is so available to track testers why couldn't we do the same with the Aero? A "production" car is something that can be lent out to reviewers to prove its worth. SSC I hope you make the Tuatara available to the public to see real track numbers on video, not just on paper.
Hats off to Jerod Shelby and SSC for mixing it with the big boys with the Ultimate Aero, but I think the arrival of the 3 new hypercars; The LaFerrari, McLaren P1 and the Porsche 918 Spyder, have moved the goal posts by several football fields. The inclusion of hybrid technology, regenerative braking, F1 levels of downforce etc has made it almost impossible for a small or new car company to have the budgets necessary to compete. Especially against three of the biggest names in motorsport history. Even the Lamborghini Venono looks relatively old hat - tech wise, not looks wise. I guess SSC are revaluating their situation and realise no one would pay 1 million dollars +, for the Tuatara, when these three hypercars are about to be released any time soon, at about the same price. Of course SSC could still be looking to make the Tuatara the fastest road car in the world, as that was their original aim, but it just seems unfeasible at this moment in time. The three manufacturers just mentioned have stated this isn't their aim with their new hypercars. Hybrid technology is the new thing to aim for now in the hypercar market. Just like how the Veyron restarted the fastest car in the world wars. Shame, I was really looking forward to the Tuatara. This could signal the end for the small new car company as a whole competing with established supercar makers. I guess even Koenigsegg and Pagani will have take a different direction with their next projects. We will see.
I just heard about the new Aero XT, looks like a great end to a very ambitious car as well as a great test for the sublime Tuatara. Anyway its good to hear about something new from the company after rumors of financial trouble.
Independant companys making kitcars don't need crash tests, 5mph crash bumpers etc. Basically what is needed is headlights, taillights, indicator lights, mirrors, permanent licence plate brackets with rear illumination, seatbelts and DOT tires. Big manufacturer have strict regulations like side indicator lights angle of vision, glass type in rearview mirrors, side impact beams, seatbelt mounting points etc. Little makers get away with lot of things allthough lot of laws differ in states.
The SSC is not a kit car, which would be registered as a home built vehicle, nor is it a tuner car. For instance, the Hennessey Venom GT is 90% Hennessey 10% Lotus but its registered and insured as a Lotus car. An Ultimate Aero is legally a SSC Ultimate Aero.
yeah leno did said that watch the video, he said driving it normally there's really no boost at all which means all the boost (and there is a LOT of it) comes rather late. Also I'm pretty sure spinning your wheels at 190mph has something to do with traction considering that means you have none of it. And better to get info from a video game than to just make it up like you have been.
There were reviews from Autocar and jay lenos garage and some other mags... SSC was not too concerned with getting reviews, since thier early cars were a bit rough around the edges. Every car they built was better than the last, and you can tell by looking at the first prototypes to the last orange Ultimate Aero. In any case, the cars sold themselves and they sold every one they built. Now the Tuatara is coming, and SSC says they will spend more on publicity for it i.e. a review on Top Gear.
Would love to work at a place like this, they show signs of intelligence, innovation and strive to make a better product. Where most of the car manufacturers pop them out like candy and have more problems then most of your children. Good luck to them in the future as they work hard to get the construction done on their new building!

I can't wait to see, and hear, that engine. It will be interesting. Although I think a 7L pushrod would have been better. It could have easily made 1350hp as well, and saved 50-100lbs in weight. Although the car is claimed very light as is and the motor probably has potential to get 1500hp.

First off, Jay Leno never said that, you made that up and it isn't even accurate. All turbo cars need your foot on the gas to get boost, that is how a turbo works. Second, the SSC test driver didn't say that either. It had a little wheelspin at 190mph because he dropped the clutch on a 1183hp car with no TC. It has nothing to do with stability, traction or lag. Third, that makes sense, you get your information from a videogame.
Getting information from a video game is just as bad as making it up. The data is just as valid. That is why I prefer to use accurate, reliable sources, logic, common sense, and use what anybody could learn about general knowledge on how cars and engines work.

Combine the two and you have a disaster. Reports on the UA are that there is little to no turbo lag, and that would only matter on the launch anyways. The UA destroys the Veyron in acceleration, so on the same road the UA will destroy the Veyron in top speed.

Dude it's not that they think that Americans can't build cars, it's just that once our cars get insulted, well the butthurt fans just go crazy on the Europeans. Sure the Europeans can build amazing cars, like the McLaren F1 (all time favorite), Bugatti Veyron, etc. So can Americans like the ZR1, SSC Ultimate Aero, but also a lot of other American supercars like the Hennessey Venom GT use a ZR1 engine tuned, which is not very original.

What he says is, driving normally, out of the boost, is is very civilized. What you have shown is you don't understand how a turbo motor works. Let me explain. It takes exhaust gasses to spin the turbo which creates boost. Driving around with low throttle openings doesn't make enough exhaust for measurable boost. This happens in ANY turbo car including the Veyron, probably more so in the Veyron because it has less exhaust feeding each turbo.
Is SSC going to sue Ford for claiming the most powerful production v8? I believe the SSC Ultimate Aero/Tuatara make more than double what the new GT500 does. Unless they can claim that because you are not currently making cars?

In some countries small volume manufacturers dont have to meet all regulations, but the US is not one of them. Lotus cannot sell the Elise and Exige here for street use andy more because they no longer pass these standards. SSC is not a homebuilt car, aka "kit car", so is not exempt from any of this.

Spinning at 190mph does not mean there is a traction problem. Add a 1000hp to most cars and they would be able too. A traction problem would be uncontrollable spinning at low speeds. What it does is to be expected at this performance level, most just hide it with traction control. That's like saying if the car spins under full throttle in a turn it has bad traction. No, you drove like an idiot.

Jay garage video ins't exactly a review. Jay is a collector and more of a historian and not very good driver. Autocar has only done a magazine review where they were critical. With a car that you claim " in the wolrd" things you can't hide it away like that. The cars sold themselves? As far as I know they only build the car if there was a demand and rumours say that they havent sold even a 10 cars - that would explain the lack of videos. Theres more videos of zonda cinque with only 5 ever made.

Jay garage video ins't exactly a review. Jay is a collector and more of a historian and not very good driver. Autocar has only done a magazine review where they were critical. With a car that you claim " in the wolrd" things you can't hide it away like that. The cars sold themselves? As far as I know they only build the car if there was a demand and rumours say that they havent sold even a 10 cars - that would explain the lack of videos. Theres more videos of zonda cinque with only 5 ever made.

This car will officially dominate Bugatti once and for all. They Veyron is the worst excuse of an exotic for many reasons. and the biggest reason, is the car itself... egg shaped piece of trash... American tuning FTW!!!
