Y'know Yahtzee makes a good point. Surely the reason we play a superhero game is to further understand the hero and by extension feel like we are the superhero. I'm kinda annoyed how superhero games keep trying to ripoff Arkham Asylum while not grasping why it was good in the first place as a Batman game. Arkham Asylum was good as a Batman game because the game took advantage of the character and used what defined him into the gameplay, Batman is a detective so the game had the odd crime scene you had to find clues in, he is also a gadget meister so the game gave you a lot of gadgets to play with, plus Batman is supposed to be a master combatant and as such the game provided you with a tight combat controls.
Spider-man is not Batman, so stop trying to ripoff Batman game mechanics.
The strength of Spider-man is character development and the question of how one could be able to lead a healthy life while balancing the mask and the man. So why not make a Spider-man game like a kind of sandbox RPG? Where Peter/you had to save the city on the odd basis while still trying to be on good terms with the supporting cast in a very Telltale sort of way, in that you can't be on everyone good side 100%. Another thing that separated Spider-man from other superheroes was that when he first started he was a teenager, and had to deal with adolescent problems like grades and getting/keeping a job, again you can do that in a very Telltale way. As for combat... how exactly can you do that for Spider-man? The reason Arkham Asylum's combat works was because in was tight, methodical and easy to implement and understand which is Batman's fighting style in a nutshell, whereas Spider-man is very chaotic, constantly jumping and swinging around and I wonder how can you simulate that in an elegant way using a keyboard or controller? Plus Spider-man is also very bright, often using his knowledge and the environment to overcome his foes, I would do this by subtly weaving the solutions into exposition/dialogue prior to the encounter and if the player payed attention he/she can exploit it, if they haven't then they could either try and beat the boss the old fashioned way (punching it) or to come up with their own solution.
Don't suppose I'm missing anything?
I suppose that Spider-Man's greater range of movement compared to someone like Batman would lend itself well to really out-there obstacle course/platforming sections. I could see Mysterio setting up challenges like that for Spider-Man: dense, possibly psychedelic environments allowing for engaging omnidirectional movement that tests your skill with controlling every nuance of how Spider-Man can move himself, until you're so caught up in navigating your way through it all that you've even lost track of what's up and down anymore. Of course, the controls and level design would have to be top-notch to keep this from instead just being a frustrating trainwreck, but pulled off well enough, something like this could serve as a rough equivalent to _Arkham Asylum_'s Scarecrow sections that's still thoroughly Spider-Man.
For that matter, a more restrained version of this sort of gameplay could make up a good chunk of whatever gameplay sections have to take place in indoor environments (and thus train you for the unhinged, full-blown obstacle course segments). Instead of just walking through corridors and encountering group after group of enemies to fight like in all other _Spider-Man_ games, Spider-Man could make a habit of infiltrating these facilities (which is another sort of thing he does a lot in the source material, but when it comes to the games, _nope_, he always just kinda seems to waltz right in through the front door like he's the health inspector or something), maybe through their ventilation systems or the twisting sewer and subway tunnels just underneath them. If Spider-Man's movement is what defines him physically (Stan Lee even got most of the initial inspiration for the character by thinking up unique powers related to locomotion, since superheroes who just get around by flying were so bog-standard), then something like this would be a further evolution of that through gameplay beyond just the open-air web-swinging.
So what your saying is persona daily life shit but spooderman instead of demon hunting sounds alright
They should make it like bully in my opinion. Where you have to get to class on time whilst also managing your time as spiderman.
I thought of that exact same idea while playing a bad Spider-man game at the age of ten. Small world. It's also a brilliant idea
It seems to me the best spider-man games have fun web slinging. You'd think they'd figure that out, oh wait they already have
I like the idea of Spider-Man getting around by just floating and making King Ghidorah noises
I think im gonna dig up my old spiderman 2 game because of this
And then the new Spider-man game was made many years later which for me is now. ;)
1:33 Hideous plague... New York City... quarantine regulations... Somehow all of this sounds familiar...
That ending might come to fruition because the venom movie stars tom hardy
An oddly prophetic comment from Yahtzee
@@ryanpeacock9004 He seems to do that a lot.
Now waiting for venom 2 and he might join the mcu
3:23 might be the most hilarious simile he’s ever come up with...
as someone who HAS played spider-man, i can confirm the game ends how Yahtzee said
+LunarSlayer as someone who played it aswell, I can confirm your confirmation.
...Dare I even ask?
its a weird ending alright
2:30 for the leprechauns gold
How DARE you Yahtzee?! That ending is TOTALLY wrong!
It's done with Crickets, not even Grasshoppers!
this feels like the red faction guerilla of spiderman, it's pretty good but it won't make you cream your pants and it's sequel makes you go what the fucking hell happened
Hawkeye Gough What sad about the Spider-man franchise is all Activision has to do is Remake (not remaster), the original Spiderman 2 on PS2, & do justice to that original game (not a half arsed version), & we might have spiderman game that can compete & even put Batman series to shame, because this superhero has way too much potential. Think about it Spiderman is pretty much packed with so many cool powers that every open-world protagonist would wish he had. For Stealth he has wall climbing, vertical web takedowns (like in A. Spiderman 2 where you stealth trap your enemies), he has got amazing melee combat options like acrobatics, web shots, using web to swing your enemies around etc, he has a genuine spidey sense that can compete perfectly with the counters of Batman, and add to that the same spidey sense can be used during stealth to sense approaching enemy, on top of all the web swinging just might be the best mode of travelling in an open-world, it has speed, it gives you option of travelling vertically or on a higher plane, & you can again takedown bad guys from a distance, with a fast approach using the web. He is the best superhero for a game, even better than Batman, & yet we haven't had a game that does justice to this superhero since the PS2 release lol
+Kul Zaze Nah ultimate spider-man remake would be beast.
The conclusion of this video is slowly becoming an actual possibility. Tom Hardy is Venom, he might eventually beat up Tom Holland's spiderman
Someone thought he was stupidly complaining about it being in NYC, home of Spider-Man, but he wasn't. He was pointing out that the quarantine regulations should have been tightened up after Web of Shadows since it was the same city.
Well... Tom Hardy is Venom now
YES. Spider man was one of my favorite games ever. So many good memories from it.
I liked the original Playstation game. Haven't played any since but you swung properly at least. Also "What If? Mode" was a cheat that should be in every single game.
What’s What If Mode?
@@daniellewilson8527
Based on the "What If?" comic series and upcoming Disney show.
It just made a few crazy things happen in game, mostly cosmetic I think, they could expand it a lot more on current gen stuff.
4:52 Basically predated Venom by about 5 years, haven’t seen the movie yet but won’t care if it is spoiled.
Hey, Yahtzee... How about Retro-Reviewing Spiderman 2? >_>;
Just Cause 2 is a better Spiderman game then The Amazing Spiderman.
All it needs is a story arch where Parker loses any moral and to put Scorpio in a Spiderman suit.
TheKeyser94 holy shit, I almost forgot that happened. Sometimes the Spiderman mythos are so fucking dumb. But on a level that it's hilariously dumb. Like that one friend that's an asshole, but also really stupid, so he'll say shit so dumb, you'll laugh your ass off. You keep him around for lolz.
TheKeyser94 it's an interesting premise, but it's just... "possession"? I mean really? It's a good idea, but not in that way, you know? But it's so flamboyantly dumb that you can't help but enjoy the concept of "oh shit, Doc Oc just possessed Peter Parker and his girl loves it.", can you?
mongolianape and swinging
+Iam.Alone
Hmm, I've always viewed it as the best superman game ever made once the flying mod is installed; a super man who has completely stopped giving a shit and talks in a comedic Latina/Spanish accent.
Burkutace27
True, true, that too, a very nice Superman game, too.
He said "delete where appropriate" meaning he just supplied all the possible options and you were to pick which option you agreed with
reminds me of The Amazing Spiderman on the PS1. Those were the days!
Hell. Fucking. Yes.
"Spiderman's shoulder Gnome: The Game",
Play as the little voice in Peter Parker's head from the form of a little man that lives on his shoulder and tells him to burn people.
I love how to toy dinosaur yahtzee uses actually looks alot like the monster from amazing spiderman
in City they do notice, in fact. they get the crap scared out of them when they see the poor guy hanging
I worded that quite poorly. I meant, The Wanted game is based after the movie plot, it continues from the movie.
I never saw it, so I don't know if it's good or bad, but MovieBob clearly went in knowing he was going to hate it for reasons outside the film itself.
Spider-Man 2 is one of the best games I've ever played. Whenever I play Ocarina of Time or Bioshock or Mass Effect, I wonder why the hell I'm not playing Spider-Man 2.
I want a game with Zero Punctuation animation.....
There is Hatfall.
Yahtzee, Spiderman never looks where he is shooting his webs. He uses the spider-sense which gives him omnipresent sense of where he is. So just holding down a button would actually be very accurate.
Well, this video was how I realized that Dark Knight Rises was 10+ years ago and now I feel very old and like Batman hasn't had a good movie in quite some time
right when i think hey are done THEY POST ANOTHER!
Funny enough in the 3DS port of this game enemies actually look up while they're alerted. IDK if Gearbox (who didn't do the 3DS port of the second game which is probably why it's shit) made that decision intentionally of it was a bug nobody bothered to fix. It's like in a stretch of the sewer part the game makes the textures look like the 360 version at 480p until you reach a certain part, probably meaning that they quality being lowered was a conscious effort. If the Controls were worked better I'd have played the 3DS version more because it retains a lot from the console versions.
That’s the version I played
Before the update this game used to freeze all the time. The change in style from colorful comic book to gritty realism was alright. Despite the boring side missions and and almost repetitive combat i enjoyed this game more than Web of Shadows which has some serious flaws but fun web swinging.
Spiderman 2 will always be known as the only good spiderman game for a whole decade
The tie-in game for the third movie was alright, too. You could even argue that it was even better than the film.
When Spider-Man swings across a city on his weblines, his spider-sense guides his aim, allowing him to travel at high speeds hundreds of feet above street level with minimal concentration, confident his weblines will find secure anchor points. - Taken from Spiderman Wiki
I'm talking about accurate information.
Wow, this came out like, 4 seconds ago. I'm amused yet slightly bewildered
The way he says Spiderman is the greatest thing ever
my wishes have been answered endless supply of zeropunctuation! haha keep them coming =]
Used to love playing that game, it was as buggy as hell but it was so good!
I Love Anime, but 3:22 had me in stitches
Off to the Leprachaun's GOLD!
I loved this game. I thought it was second only to Spider-Man 2 on GCN/PS2.
Got an ad for Halo Nightfall. How fitting...
i wish i'd get a halo ad
i just keep getting the same 3 over and over
Your voice is weird now. Go back to your old one.
*Old one!?*
Yusuke Urameshi so the cartoonishly gravelly voice sounds normal to you
you know you've played too much metal gear when..
Iron/Pacifist David Hayter IS Snake. Just like Kevin Conroy IS Batman.
Did anyone notice the Nine inch nails T-shirt at 1:09? I crapped my pants when I saw it.
I found that he was a more believable Spider-Man than Toby Mcguire, he's not as heavy and therefore looks a lot more like the comics Spidey. Plus he pulled off the one-liners pretty good
anime character making a decision xD
10/10 I cry every time.
Swinging around is fun. That's something I want to enjoy myself, it's not something I want the game doing for me. Also it doesn't take a great amount of concentration to do it. Once you get the hang of the swinging it feels natural and free flowing. It's an experience many people loved and the point of a game is to have fun. If you didn't like doing the spidey stuff yourself than I suppose this is the game for you.
Web of Shadows was my favorite Spider-Man game. I don't actually know if that's a good thing.
I wouldn't go that far, but finally someone that understands that a movie tie-in game for a movie no one liked can actually qualify as entertainment
Alright, the new layout confused me for a second, made me think we couldn't reply to each other. but anyway, I remember in some of the movies and some versions of the show, he'd occasionally check where he was aiming. But the spider sense doing that for him makes perfect sense.
Escapist
what are you doing?
ESCAPIST
STAHP!
I miss Spider-Man 2 too (PS2 or GC)
Only if someone would make a game like that again
But if that does happen you can just hit the i just pissed my pants button and the enemy will forget where you went, what they were doing, how guns work, what math is, how to breathe, why god doesn't love them, why the woman they kidnapped earlier doesn't love them, and...
That was just hilarious, my favorite review yet!
That doesn't even translate into accuracy. You'r honestly just watching Spidey do the work for you.
good choice on baguette over bun, but good luck finding one that's all of the 10 foot required to accommodate sucha bulbous meat missile... for some reason i assume you wanted it all on one baguette
If only life had a "I just pissed my pants button"
He still had to accurately time his swings and gain the most momentum he could out of him. Spidey sense just makes him particularly good at it. You mastering that skill yourself was one of the funnest things about that game.
yes
Escapist?
What are you doing?
Escapist?
STAHP!!!! DX
Spiderman 2 had Tobey Maguire and his lovable little quips on occasion. Ultimate Spider-man had a genuinely funny Peter whose witty lines I quote to this day. This game...maybe I'm just getting old. ...no, this game's Spidey just isn't funny
+That'sMyProfilePicture My favorite from Ultimate is, "Jump and then jump again. Sure it breaks the laws of physics, but so do most things I do."
my cousin picked up this game when i woke up and i went to a movie an hour later then when i got back he finished, hope that explains it for you.
Anyone else genuinely excited/hopeful/confident about the upcoming ps4 spiderman title?
No just no
Hopeful is the only word I can use for it.
It looks like webswinging will be replaced/imitated by parkour rather than married with it so... not really.
Its the best spiderman game if you dont like deep thoarting nostalgia, though the bar for these games are set so low that its not saying much
more than 17 mins have passed
4:26 keep the sandwich jokes coming!!!!lololol
Anyone here played Spiderman 2 Enter Electro on the PS1? Brilliant fucking game.
hey! this guy talkin about gamecubes spiderman being good. im glad someone as harsh as you agrees that game was awesome!
Never played it, but most Gamecube Games (I have) are good so the system was not that bad in my opinion. Plus, nice Derpy!
I think that's why he did the thing where he named every rating for it, he just elaborated on the lowest rating for kicks. Because he didn't watch it. That is a weird thing, though, a lot of gamers don't really watch many movies anymore, including me. I still watch a few, but movies can't really beat video games as entertainment...
And I think I gotta start.
Spiderman 2 for the Gamecube. Yus.
Don't forget fearsome.
You can't expect this that much, i mean, look at Spiderman 2. it was fantastic
Nice picture.
I did. it was an amazing game
The plane part was very cool
I love alt-tab! ah!
If you're a yiff enthusiast and the boss walks in you don't mash alt + tab, you mash the trigger on your gun while aiming it at your face.
+Nymda _ Firstly, it was pornography, not yiff, secondly, if you're dumb enough to watch porn at an office where your boss can walk in on you, you really should reconsider being an *enthusiast*, and thirdly, maybe you should consider that, oh, say, that there's a *distinct* possibility that people aren't carbon copies of each other and that it's none of your business what they do or like?
Nymda _ Umm, okay, but I'm not particularly upset. I honestly don't care, but you got it wrong and I helped.
***** you helped no one.
Why am I completely unable to find this spider man 2 review he talks about in every review?
And I thought the Chzo Mythos series was great, his game reviews are AMAZING
For a movie tie-in game, this really wasn't that bad.
When compared to Spiderman 2 or Ultimate Spiderman, it really was that bad.
Thats like saying "this piece of shit is not as bad cause at least its dry" they have no exuse
Yahtzee taking jabs at Moviebob?
This should be interesting...
I wonder if MovieBob gets back at Yahtzee?
I can't give you that. But I can give you an internet cookie.
a web-sling skip button? WHAT ARE YOU PLAYING SPIDERMAN FOR?
awwww
I need caffeine in order to keep up with these videos...
I never would have guessed.
You're fantastic.
bibibbiibibibibibibibib... he wants your friendchips
Big kahuna burger you say? They do make a tasty burger.
You're amazing.
Movie Bob begs to differ
Probably, seeing how many people play war games like CoD and Halo who completely ignore the campaign.
Brother I know those feels.
ive never played it, but all the reviews ive seen LOVED the challenge that those mechanics posed. Which is understandable cuz it makes you work more like Spiderman instead of just the gamer whos playing him. And of course the game would come off terrible now cuz its old and u have a biased perspective from all the better graphics we got now. Lastly, this is zero punctuation, most of the stuff he says is just to make u laugh
Spiderman 2 is one of my favourite games of all time just because of the perfect webswinging.
This game would have done really well if it was just a "Spiderman 2: HIGH DEFINITION VERSION!!!!"
But sadly not.
4m baguette.. Yum..?
There's no way that only 20% of people actually finish games they start
Well ill buy that novel
Oh right, i obviously should've guessed. The cyanide does explain quite a lot though >_>
I kinda like this game
