Yesterday I felt like I was going to die from the hangover, anxiety, shortness of breath, unrest, no balance in my walk almost stumbling over, kidneys hurting, today is day 2 of not drinking and I improved a lot more than what I was feeling yesterday. I still can’t operate a vehicle and not even going to attempt it(my car is safely stored at my brothers house and been there since my first day of drinking). I can’t wait to feel normal again. I hit a new low but we can only do better. Guys, don’t drink and please reach out if you have a problem.

    Currently 10 days sober and just got over DTs for the 3rd time in my life. You'd think such things would stop you from ever touching something so disgusting again but even during them, and now, I'm craving alcohol like I'm starving. I dare not go to the shops in case i leave with a liter of vodka. When i was a teenager/young 20s binge drinking i thought all these people older than me getting addicted to this degree were just terrible people who choose to be the way they are but life experience has proven to me no sane person would choose what I and countless other people go through with alcohol addiction, and it seriously is an absolutely harrowing disease of the mind AND body. 1 day at a time.

    After 10 years of hardcore drinking i walked away from it in Dec 2002. No meetings, no rehab, no sponsors... cold Turkey, just quit. Surprisingly, not difficult at all. I never once craved alcohol since i quit. I believe it's because of the absolute hatred i had for drinking at the time i quit. I had so many problems in the 10 years of debauchery. It made me completely hate alcohol.

    It takes about 3 months to create a habit... good or bad. The 1st week is always the hardest. Whether it's getting into shape, eating healthy, quitting any substances. Look at the finish line as a goal and then you will have the power to continue.

    • @UBeesh10
      @UBeesh10 Před 4 lety +2

      Hard to see the finish line when you dont know what it looks like. Some dont even remember what sobriety feels like. Most started drinking because they were trying to escape something that found them in sobriety. Just my $0.02.

    • @paperbox819
      @paperbox819 Před 4 lety +4

      I agree it's hard to see the finish line. It's also hard to look from the outside in. I shamed myself into quitting smoking. Every time I would light up and would tell myself what a loser I am, and how weak I am for not being able to do it. Till one day it just clicked. It wasn't easy, but I did it. I also quit opiates, that was a hard one. I knew I didn't want to do it anymore, but the fear of withdrawal is more of a mental thing than a physical thing. Don't get me wrong, it fucking sucks! But you know in your mind there is a quick fix to feel better. That there is what gives you so much anxiety.

      Same. I tried for a like a whole year to keep drinking even though I hated everything about it. Was in total denial and completely programmed like all the other sheep to think "it's what people do." When you actually take an analytical look at the bar scene and drinking culture you'll begin to realize what an absolute abhorrent joke it all is. They've tricked us into poisoning ourselves so that we stay fat, miserable and unhealthy in order to make money and keep us reliant on their products and big pharma. Same goes with fast food.

    I'm 7 days sober tomorrow. I've drank hard liquor most days for the last 10+ years. I bought two beers earlier today because i was geeking out a little. I thought one or twl would help take the edge off a little.
    They're still in the fridge.
    I dont know if i should throw them out or just leave them there for "little victories" every day.

    I have a hard time staying sober, I'm not going to sugarcoat the fact that I'm an alcoholic.
    I ruined my girlfriend's birthday party by getting arrested, got beat up by family members on my side. I'm a mess when it comes to alcohol.
    Bill really helps with his podcasts, and when he gets told he looks good I remember the small amount of times when I was sober for a couple of days and people told me that I look good, it's not worth it. I dont know if you guys in America have the saying "alcohol runs more things than you love". Its the god damn truth

    I developed acute pancreatitis from alcoholism earlier this year. I went cold turkey for a month and slowly started back into an occasional beer. Every damn day is a struggle when I've spent so many years of my life perpetually drunk to the point I don't know who I am sober. I used to hate the label "alcoholic" because once you're labeled one, you're always one. This past year has taught me the utter truth to that reality. It's tough out here, but you just have to take it one day at a time. I'm glad Bill found a reason to stop drinking, though unfortunately he'll most likely get back on the wagon at some point because the truth is....you can't make the decision to stop drinking because of someone else. You have to make that decision for yourself and only yourself....that's the only way it will truly have any merit. I'm just rambling here, but for anyone who reads this and struggles with this....just keep working at it. One day at a time

    At 30, I was working out like crazy, so my hangovers were really manageable - way better than when I was in my mid 20's, smoking cigarettes and out of shape.
    But I let myself go a bit in the past two years, and the hangovers returned with the excessive fat. So I'd say worry about your shape more than about your age.

    I'd just like to stop boozing for a bit to give my body a rest since I'm not so young anymore but also to shed some lbs and also be more productive as I hear when one waits to reward oneself with booze it kinda shuts them off from using weekends for other rewards and outings.

      I tried to drink moderately (less than 3 drinks per day, no more than two days in a week) but I ended up feeling sicker. So I just don't drink at all now. The whole "moderate drinking" is bs if you ask me, it just entices you to buy more alcohol per week.

    I have too & it honestly doesn’t feel like an accomplishment. Going to dinner, weddings, family gatherings just feels a lot more awkward without drinking. Anxiety remains high in situations where a drink would have totally calmed me down. Sobriety is honestly a double edged sword, just like alcohol.
